Chapter 441: The Late-Game Specialist
[Gold Hex Core: Late-Game Specialist]
Description: All Pokémon on the current roster gain a permanent 10% increase in
growth speed.
Apex Bonus: Pokémon with a base stat total of 550 or higher (excluding star-up
bonuses) receive an additional 5% growth speed (total 15%), +15 to both Physical
and Special Defense, and +20 to Speed.
Kenji stared at the System panel, his eyes lighting up. This "Specialist"
augment had exceeded his expectations. A flat 10% increase to the entire team's
leveling speed was already invaluable, but the Apex Bonus was where the true
power lay.
However, there was a catch: the 550 base stat requirement was calculated before
Champion Duplicators (Star-ups), though it did include permanent item or Hex
Core infusions.
Kenji quickly ran the numbers on his team. Slaking, Darkrai, and Tyranitar were
easy qualifiers. Mega Gyarados also made the cut.
Then there was his ace, Beedrill. Normally, even in its Mega form, a Beedrill's
base stat total only reached 495—far below the elite 550 threshold. But Kenji
had been building Beedrill to be a god since day one. He had used the Prismatic
Hex Core: Dazzling Speed on it, which granted a permanent 60-point infusion to
its base stats.
495 + 60 = 555.
Beedrill squeaked past the requirement by a mere five points, securing the
defensive and speed buffs.
His Gyarados, however, was the tragic outlier. In its base form, it sat at 540.
It missed the elite cutoff by exactly ten points. It was a bitter pill to
swallow for the hardest-working member of his team, but Kenji knew that Gyarados
would simply use that frustration to train ten times harder.
After conquering the four regional Elite Four, Kenji didn't rush to challenge
Zhurong Yun.
There was still time before the official "Road to the Championship" deadline
expired. He wasn't the type to charge in blind, especially when facing the man
who sat at the very top of the Huaxia League. He needed his team at their
absolute peak.
He spent the following weeks finalizing his roster for the ultimate showdown.
After days of deliberation, he settled on the six who would accompany him to the
Champion's throne:
1. Beedrill (The Ace / The Dimensional Piercer)
2. Darkrai (The Nightmare God)
3. Arbok (The Half-Dragon Sovereign)
4. Gyarados (The Sea Sovereign)
5. Annihilape (The Rage Phantom)
6. Electivire (The Thunder Tyrant)
It was a lineup of pure, unadulterated aggression. He had considered the utility
of Bellossom or the illusions of Ninetales, but against Zhurong Yun, he knew he
needed raw, overwhelming power. Slaking, Tyranitar, and Serperior would remain
in reserve; their current levels were just a step behind the frantic pace of the
"God-tier" starters.
Three months passed in a blur of high-intensity training.
The world outside Kenji's training grounds was becoming increasingly unstable.
On the global stage, "Conspiracy Theory" had become the news of the day. Rumors
swirled that several regional Leagues were secretly conducting illegal genetic
experiments, following the blueprint left behind by R-Organization.
The accused Leagues issued stern, humanitarian denials, claiming all their
research was strictly ethical and legal. But everyone knew the truth: in a world
where a man-made God like Mewtwo existed, no one wanted to be left behind in the
arms race.
Even the Huaxia League wasn't entirely innocent. They had been secretly
analyzing the three Moltres clones Kenji had captured. Their research into
genetic cloning had made significant breakthroughs in a remarkably short amount
of time.
But the most unsettling news came from the wild. Sightings of Legendary Pokémon
had spiked to an all-time high. Every day, the internet was flooded with blurry
photos and high-definition videos of Articuno, Entei, or Regirock appearing in
areas they had no business being in.
Kenji watched the footage and knew with 100% certainty: these were Mewtwo's
clones.
The "God" of R-Organization was flooding the world with its children. What
confused Kenji, however, was the lack of aggression. Mewtwo's nature was
vengeful; when it had first broken free, it had immediately decimated
R-Organization's labs. Why was it now content to let its clones simply "exist"
in the wild?
He's waiting for something, Kenji thought, looking toward the horizon. Or
someone.
But he couldn't worry about the end of the world yet. He had a crown to take.
He looked at his team, their auras now dense with the power of the Late-Game
Specialist and months of brutal refinement. They were ready.
Metropolis. Gilded Stadium. The stage was set for the final battle against the
Fire God himself: Champion Zhurong Yun.
