Chapter 428: The Cracked Shield
This time, Annihilape didn't just stand there and tank the hit. Instead, it used
Sirfetch'd's shield as a springboard. With a nimble kick against the heavy
onion-shield, the monkey launched itself backward, easily evading the descending
Brick Break.
Sirfetch'd was relentless, immediately pressing the chase. It swung its
leek-sword in a wide, sweeping arc, the air whistling as it sought to cleave
through the monkey's hide.
But the "Rage Phantom" was proving to be impossibly elusive. Despite its bulky,
rounded frame, its movements were fluid and erratic. It danced around the noble
bird's strikes with mocking ease, retaliating with a heavy Rage Fist whenever
the bird left an opening.
THUD!
The blow was heavy, landing with the weight of an iron sledgehammer against
Sirfetch'd's shield. The knightly duck's arm trembled under the sheer physical
pressure.
Suddenly, Annihilape's behavior shifted. It seemed to grow obsessed with the
shield itself. It stopped aiming for the bird's body and began a focused, brutal
assault on the onion-shield. One punch after another—bang, bang, bang—it pelted
the shield while weaving through Sirfetch'd's counter-attacks.
Then, as the noble bird lunged with another high-power Brick Break, Annihilape
did something unexpected. It stopped moving. It stood its ground and simply
raised an arm to catch the blow.
BANG!
The Brick Break landed flush on Annihilape's forearm. But instead of flinching,
the monkey's eyes flared a murderous, glowing crimson.
Counter!
The kinetic energy from the bird's attack didn't dissipate. It was absorbed,
amplified, and funneled directly into Annihilape's opposite fist. The monkey
didn't even look at Sirfetch'd. Its gaze was locked entirely on the shield.
It's time…
BOOM!
Annihilape threw the counter-punch with world-shattering force. The blow struck
the very center of the onion-shield. Sirfetch'd felt a terrifying surge of power
travel through the guard, vibrating into its bones. The bird was launched
backward like it had been hit by a freight train.
It skidded across the dirt for over ten meters, performing several desperate
rolls to bleed off the momentum before finally coming to a halt.
Sirfetch'd gasped for air, its arm completely numb. It felt as though it had
just been struck by a collapsing building.
CRACK…
The sound was tiny, but in the sudden silence of the arena, it sounded like a
thunderclap.
Sirfetch'd's expression froze. Slowly, with a mechanical, stiff movement, it
looked down at its precious shield—the treasure it had carried and polished
since the day it evolved.
Right in the center of the thick, layered onion leaves, a hairline fracture had
appeared.
"DACONGGGGGGG!"
Sirfetch'd's pupils shrank to pinpricks. Seeing the crack was like being struck
by lightning. Its face contorted in a mask of pure, existential horror, followed
by a shriek of agonizing rage. The noble knight vanished, replaced by a creature
of pure, unadulterated madness.
Kenji watched with a grimace. He knew the lore of the Farfetch'd line. A
Sirfetch'd lived and died by its gear. Their leek-swords and onion-shields were
more than just weapons; they were their honor, their life's work, and their very
soul. It was said that if their leek ever withered or broke, they would lose
their will to fight forever.
By cracking the shield, Annihilape hadn't just dealt damage—it had committed an
unforgivable sin. It had touched the bird's reverse scale.
On the other side, Li Xisheng looked even more panicked than his Pokémon. He
hadn't expected this match to take such a dark turn. He knew his Sirfetch'd
spent hours every day meticulously maintaining its equipment. To see it damaged
like this was a catastrophic blow to its psyche.
The culprit, Annihilape, just stood across the field, picking at its teeth with
a bored expression, seemingly indifferent to the psychological trauma it had
just inflicted.
"DA…CONGGGG!"
Sirfetch'd lowered its head, its body shaking with suppressed fury. It carefully
placed the cracked shield on the ground—it would no longer risk further damage
to it. Then, it gripped its leek-sword with both wings, its eyes burning with a
suicidal resolve.
It was no longer fighting to win. It was fighting to kill.
"Careful, Kenji! It's going all out!" Li Xisheng shouted, his voice tight.
"Sirfetch'd! Use your ultimate! Final Meteor Strike!"
This was a terrifying combo—the merging of Meteor Assault and Final Gambit. It
was a move designed for total annihilation, usually banned in standard matches
because of the extreme toll it took on the user's life force.
In its current state of grief-stricken madness, the bird was ready to trade
everything for one hit.
