Chapter 335: Mega Garchomp vs. Ninetales
BANG BANG BANG!!!
The Stone Edge missed, but Mega Garchomp didn't slow down. It whipped its head around, its biological sensors locking onto Ninetales's new position with frightening precision. It opened its mouth and unleashed a focused blast of draconic fire.
Dragon Breath!!
The tracking capability of Mega Garchomp was simply too high. Those protrusions on its head were working overtime, keeping Ninetales firmly in its crosshairs.
Although its Speed had dropped due to the heavy scythe-arms, its reaction time and move execution hadn't slowed down a bit.
The entry of Mega Garchomp had officially pushed the battle to its climax.
The fact that Hu Ren had brought out his ultimate Ace as his third Pokémon was a testament to Kenji's strength. He had forced a Zhurong-tier opponent to play their hand early.
SWISH!!! —
"Mo!!! —"
Having Teleported again, Ninetales fired a Psyshock at the shark-dragon.
Mega Garchomp didn't flinch. It fired a Mud Shot to intercept.
But as the two attacks collided, both Hu Ren and Mega Garchomp's expressions changed.
The Mud Shot passed straight through the Psyshock with zero resistance, shattering the "attack" as if it were a soap bubble.
It was an illusion!!!
"Mo!!!! —"
Just as they realized the trick, Ninetales's voice sounded from behind them.
Mega Garchomp spun around to see Ninetales already firing a beam of shimmering pink energy.
Stored Power!!
Using the energy accumulated from its many stat boosts, the attack carried devastating power. In its current buffed state, Ninetales's Stored Power was a legitimate threat even to a Mega Evolution.
"KAAA!!!! —"
Mega Garchomp reacted with a desperate Dragon Claw. Its scythe-arms slammed into the beam, trying to deflect it.
The beam was so powerful it physically forced Mega Garchomp back, its feet skidding through the sand. For the first time in the tournament, the shark looked like it was struggling.
Hu Ren's scowl deepened. He stared at Ninetales with a mix of confusion and anger.
He knew about Illusion, but standard illusions were only visual. How could Ninetales fool Garchomp's high-tech biological sensors?
What he didn't know was that Kenji's Ninetales, having reached its potential limit, possessed an Illusion ability that affected all five senses—sight, sound, touch, and even the electrical signatures Garchomp relied on.
It was a total sensory override.
Seeing his partner struggle, Hu Ren decided to end the games. He took a deep breath, his voice booming across the field.
"Mega Garchomp!! Use Draco Meteor!!!"
"KAAAA!!!! —"
Exasperated by the fox's tricks, the shark-dragon let out a furious roar. It gathered a massive volume of draconic energy and launched it into the sky.
Next, the sky was filled with a rain of massive, glowing meteorites.
It was the same move Namgung Xi's Dragonite had used, but the difference in power between an Elite-level rookie and a Champion-level veteran was like a candle versus a forest fire.
Each individual meteor from Mega Garchomp looked more destructive than the entire fused meteor from the previous match.
"KAAAA!!!! —"
Mega Garchomp leaped into the air.
Dragon Rush!!!
It soared into the middle of its own meteor shower. Its scythe-arms blurred as it began to strike the falling stones.
BANG BANG BANG!!!! —
In a display of terrifying precision, Mega Garchomp shattered its own meteors into thousands of smaller, jagged shards.
This was a different technique from Namgung Xi's. While she fused them for power, Hu Ren fragmented them to increase coverage.
The fragmented Draco Meteor now carpet-bombed every square inch of the arena. There were no gaps. No safe zones.
Against this, Teleport was useless. There was nowhere to go that wasn't about to be pulverized.
Left with no choice, Ninetales had to brace for impact.
Protect!!!
A pale green shield appeared over the fox.
BAM BAM BAM!!! —
Meteor shards hammered into the arena floor, creating a cacophony of explosions.
Ninetales hunked down behind its shield, a tiny island of safety in a sea of destruction.
"KAAA!!! —"
Mega Garchomp wasn't done. It used the chaos of its own attack to mask its descent. Shrouded in the blue dragon aura of Dragon Rush, it dive-bombed straight at the green shield.
KRA-KOOM!!!! —
The impact was cataclysmic.
The combined force of the meteor shower and the point-blank Dragon Rush caused the entire stadium to shudder. Dust, sand, and debris filled the air, obscuring everything.
...
As the dust began to settle, the first rays of the Sunny Day pierced through the gloom.
Mega Garchomp stood in a massive crater. But Ninetales was gone.
A second later, the sandstorm finally died out. The weather returned to neutral.
Kenji scanned the field. He spotted the white fox in a far corner of the arena.
The crowd gasped. Did she dodge that?!
But Hu Ren didn't look surprised. He knew his partner had hit the target.
Kenji sighed softly. Hu Ren was right. The Dragon Rush had landed solidly.
The only reason Ninetales was still standing was because [Last Stand] had triggered.
Fighting a Level 97 Mega Ace with an Level 74 Pokémon is just too much of a stretch, Kenji thought.
Ninetales had danced on the edge of a knife for as long as it could. It had successfully taken out Hippowdon, lowered Mega Garchomp's Special Attack, and stalled out the sandstorm. It had done its job perfectly.
"Return, Ninetales."
Kenji recalled his fox before the dragon could finish it off.
"Now, meet your real opponent! Go! Arbok!!"
Kenji threw his ball. A red streak hit the ruined battlefield.
"CHAAA!!! —"
With a fierce hiss, Arbok uncoiled itself.
Typing-wise, Mega Garchomp (Ground/Dragon) had a clear advantage over Arbok (Poison/Dragon).
Level-wise, the dragon held a 16-level lead over the Level 81 snake.
It was time to see if the special training at Mt. Dreadmist had truly turned Arbok into a monster capable of defying the odds.
