The lecture finally came to a conclusion, and Noah felt a wave of relief wash over him as the students began to pack their bags and head for the exits.
He offered a genuine, weary smile to Mary, who was already standing behind him and preparing to push his wheelchair out of the crowded hall.
Just before the bell had rung, Noah had sent a quick message to Luke, instructing the driver to bring the car around to the designated pickup point so they could head home immediately.
He was more than ready to leave the public eye and retreat into the safety of his bedroom.
"Mary, thank you so much for staying with me today," Noah said as they moved into the hallway.
"I really am so grateful for all your help with my mobilization. I don't know how I would have managed the stairs or the hallways without you."
Mary's cheeks flushed a bright shade of pink at the praise.
