Chapter 69 - Chapter 64 - The Two Day Party

CHAPTER 64 — THE TWO-DAY PARTY

*Continuation of Flashback*

Jay-Jay's POV

The day had finally arrived.

The opening of Watson Corp's Philippine branch.

And somehow, the man responsible for making it happen was currently arguing with his secretary over a flower arrangement.

"Keifer, the white orchids are supposed to be placed beside the entrance, not near the stage," Honey explained, holding a clipboard.

"Then move them."

"Keifer, the event coordinator says—"

"Tell the event coordinator I said move them."

Honey stared at him.

"Anything else you want Keifer? Perhaps you'd like me to personally rearrange the entire building?"

Keifer glanced at her. "That's why I hired you. Excellent initiative."

"I'm updating my résumé."

"Make sure you mention your outstanding ability to tolerate difficult CEOs."

"Should I mention that one particular CEO is impossible?"

"Give him a five-star review."

Honey sighed and walked away.

I watched the entire exchange from the doorway, trying not to laugh.

This man.

The same man who could negotiate million-dollar deals without blinking was fighting over orchids.

I approached him quietly.

"Busy?"

He turned.

And just like that, his expression changed.

The serious businessman disappeared, replaced by the man who had been irritating me since the moment I woke up.

"Not anymore."

I raised an eyebrow. "You were literally talking to Honey."

"I've finished."

"She hasn't."

"That's a management issue."

I laughed. "You're unbelievable."

He slipped one hand into his pocket and looked me over.

"Good morning, beautiful."

"Good morning, Mr. Watson."

"Mr. Watson?"

"Yes. You're at work."

"Interesting. So I have to schedule an appointment to speak to my own girlfriend now?"

I nearly choked.

"Keifer!"

He grinned. "What? I was only asking."

"You know exactly what you're doing."

"Of course. I'm a businessman. Planning is important."

"Go plan your opening ceremony."

"I already did."

"Then go check it."

"Already checked."

"Keifer!"

He leaned slightly closer.

"Careful, sweetheart. If you keep saying my name like that, I'll start thinking you're desperate for my attention."

"I am desperate for you to leave me alone."

"That's a very complicated way of saying you want me around."

I rolled my eyes.

He laughed and reached for my hand.

"Come on. I want to show you something."

The dress was waiting in the private suite upstairs.

A beautiful, elegant outfit had been arranged for me, along with matching accessories and shoes.

I stopped in front of it.

"Keifer."

He stood behind me, looking rather pleased with himself.

"Yes?"

"What is this?"

"A dress."

"I can see that."

"Good. I was worried you'd need glasses."

I turned around.

"Did you arrange all this?"

"Obviously."

"Why?"

"Because I wanted you to have something special for today."

I looked at the dress again.

It was beautiful. Elegant without being overly extravagant, exactly the kind of thing I would have chosen myself.

Still, I turned toward him with my hands on my hips.

"Don't you have a company to open?"

"I do."

"An entire management team to supervise?"

"Yes."

"Investors arriving?"

"Several."

"Then why are you spending your morning choosing my dress?"

He considered that for a moment.

"Because my company already has a management team. You don't."

I stared at him.

"That's not an answer."

"It's an excellent answer."

"Keifer, I'm serious."

"So am I."

He stepped closer, his expression softening.

"Jay, I wanted to do this. Let me."

I looked at him for a moment before sighing.

"You're already doing too much."

"I'm not."

"You've been running around since six in the morning."

"Five forty-five."

"That makes it worse!"

He laughed.

I pointed toward the door.

"Go. Business. Investors. Orchids. Whatever else you have to worry about."

"And what about you?"

"I'll get ready."

"Without me?"

"Yes, without you."

He pretended to look offended.

"Cruel."

"Survive."

He started toward the door, then stopped.

"One more thing."

"What?"

"Don't take too long."

I narrowed my eyes. "Why?"

"Because I have a very important appointment."

"With whom?"

He looked directly at me.

"You."

I shook my head.

"Go!"

He laughed as he finally left.

But not before saying—

"And Jay?"

"What now?"

"Wear the dress I chose. I have excellent taste."

I looked at the dress.

Then at the door.

"Unfortunately, he's right," I muttered.

By the time I was ready, the entire building seemed to be moving.

Staff members were carrying last-minute arrangements, photographers were checking their equipment, and security personnel were coordinating with the event team.

I stepped out of the suite.

A few seconds later, Keifer appeared at the end of the corridor.

He stopped walking.

For once, he didn't immediately say anything.

I tilted my head.

"What?"

He continued looking at me.

"Nothing."

"Then why are you staring?"

"I'm appreciating my investment."

I blinked.

"Your what?"

"My investment."

"Keifer!"

He laughed.

"Relax. I invested in the dress. The result is better than expected."

I crossed my arms.

"You're impossible."

"And you're beautiful."

His voice was quieter this time.

He approached me, adjusted a small detail near my shoulder, and then looked into my eyes.

"Perfect."

I felt my cheeks warm.

"It's just a dress."

"No."

He shook his head.

"It's you wearing it."

I looked away, trying to hide my smile.

"Can we go now?"

"Certainly."

He offered his arm.

I accepted it.

And together, we headed downstairs.

The main hall was already filled with guests.

The entrance displayed the Watson Corp. logo, while the stage carried the name of the newly established Philippine branch.

Everything looked magnificent.

Keifer greeted the senior management team before checking the seating arrangements one final time.

Honey approached with her clipboard.

"Keifer, the investors from London have arrived. The representatives from Singapore are here as well. The board members are seated, and the press is ready."

"Good. Has everyone received the updated schedule?"

"Yes, everyone has."

"The presentation?"

"Checked."

"Contracts?"

"Prepared."

"Media arrangements?"

"Done."

Keifer nodded.

"Excellent."

Honey glanced at me.

"And your guest has arrived safely, Mr. Watson."

Keifer looked at her.

"My guest?"

Honey gave him an innocent smile.

"Your very important guest."

I pressed my lips together to stop myself from laughing.

Keifer sighed.

"Go supervise the press."

"Of course."

She walked away, clearly enjoying herself.

I turned toward him.

"Your employees are very brave."

"They learn from experience."

"Meaning?"

"Meaning they know I can't fire everyone who makes fun of me."

I laughed.

He looked down at me.

"Enjoying yourself?"

"Very much."

"Good. Stay close."

"Why?"

"Because I have a habit of losing things when I'm busy."

I frowned.

"What things?"

He gently took my hand.

"My attention, apparently."

I shook my head.

"You're so dramatic."

"Only around you."

The ceremony began shortly afterward.

The guests settled into their seats, the photographers took their positions, and the host welcomed everyone to the grand opening of Watson Corp's Philippine branch.

I sat among the invited guests, close enough to see Keifer clearly.

When his name was announced, he walked onto the stage.

And I couldn't help smiling.

He looked completely different up there.

Confident. Composed. Focused.

The kind of man who knew exactly what he wanted and had worked relentlessly to achieve it.

He approached the microphone.

"Good morning, everyone."

The room gradually fell silent.

"First, I'd like to thank each of you for being here today. This opening represents more than an expansion for Watson Corp. It's the beginning of a new chapter for our company."

He paused briefly, looking across the audience.

"Establishing our presence in the Philippines has been a goal we've worked toward for some time. It required planning, commitment, patience, and, most importantly, people who believed in the vision."

His gaze moved toward the management team.

"To our partners, investors, executives, and employees, thank you for making this possible. Your trust and dedication have brought us here."

He continued speaking about the company's future, its plans for the Philippine market, and the opportunities the new branch would create.

There was no unnecessary boasting.

No exaggerated promises.

Just a clear vision and the confidence of someone who knew the work behind the achievement.

I watched him quietly.

I remembered all those late nights.

The calls he took while I was half asleep.

The meetings that seemed to stretch endlessly.

The moments when he would tell me he was fine even though I knew he was exhausted.

And now—

Here he was.

Standing on a stage, addressing people who had trusted him with their investments and their businesses.

I felt an overwhelming sense of pride.

When he finished, the room filled with applause.

Keifer thanked everyone with a nod before stepping away from the microphone.

My hands were still clapping when his eyes found mine.

He smiled.

Not the professional smile he'd given the audience.

His smile.

The one that belonged to me.

And somehow, that was the moment I felt proudest.

After the ceremony, the hall became busy with conversations.

Investors approached Keifer, congratulating him and discussing the company's expansion.

I remained nearby, speaking with Honey when a gentleman approached us.

"Miss, I don't believe we've met."

I turned politely.

"Hello."

"I'm Richard Bennett. One of the company's international business partners."

"It's nice to meet you. I'm Jasper Jean Mariano, but you can call me Jay-Jay."

He smiled.

"Ah. Jay."

I tilted my head slightly.

"Have you heard of me?"

"Perhaps more than you realize."

I glanced toward Keifer, who was currently speaking with two executives.

Richard followed my gaze.

"Mr. Watson has mentioned you."

I blinked.

"He has?"

"Not in great detail, of course. But enough for us to know you're someone he values."

I wasn't sure what to say.

Richard chuckled.

"Don't worry. We aren't usually given personal updates during business meetings."

I laughed.

"That's probably for the best."

"Indeed."

He was about to say something else when another guest joined us.

"Richard, there you are."

The two exchanged greetings before the newcomer turned toward me.

"I'm Daniel. A pleasure to meet you."

"Jay."

"Are you part of the Watson Corp team?"

I opened my mouth, but before I could answer—

"No."

Keifer's voice came from behind me.

I turned.

He had approached without my noticing.

"She isn't."

Daniel smiled.

"Ah. A family friend?"

Keifer glanced at me.

Then back at him.

"Something like that."

I gave him a questioning look.

Something like that?

He simply smiled.

Richard noticed the exchange, but politely changed the subject.

The conversation continued, with Keifer answering questions about the new branch and its upcoming projects.

Yet every few moments, his attention returned to me.

Sometimes it was a quick glance.

Sometimes he would reach for my hand while listening to someone else.

And once, when I moved a little farther away to make room for another guest, he looked over immediately.

I caught him doing it.

He raised an eyebrow.

I mouthed, What?

He mouthed back, Nothing.

Liar.

A little later, I found Honey standing beside one of the refreshment tables.

"Jay!"

I turned toward her.

"Hi."

She smiled.

"Enjoying the event?"

"Yes. Everything looks wonderful."

"Thank you. We've been working on it for weeks."

"I can imagine."

Honey took a sip of her drink before looking toward Keifer.

He was speaking with an investor, but his eyes had just shifted toward us.

Honey noticed.

Then she looked at me.

Then back at him.

I narrowed my eyes.

"What?"

"Nothing."

"That's the second time someone has said that to me today."

Honey laughed.

"Your presence seems to be very distracting to Keifer."

I glanced toward Keifer.

"He's working."

"Of course. Very professionally."

I looked back at her.

"Don't start."

"I'm not starting anything."

She leaned a little closer.

"I'm simply observing that Mr. Watson has checked your location more times than he's checked the event schedule."

I laughed.

"That's not true."

"Would you like me to count?"

"No!"

Honey grinned.

"Thought so."

I shook my head.

"You're enjoying this."

"Immensely."

She glanced at Keifer again.

"Honestly, I've worked with him long enough to know when something has his attention."

"And today?"

"Today, apparently, it's wearing an elegant dress."

I burst out laughing.

Before I could respond, Keifer appeared beside us.

"What's so funny?"

"Nothing," Honey replied immediately.

He looked suspicious.

"Why do I feel like I'm the subject?"

"Because you usually are," I said.

Honey covered her smile.

Keifer looked between us.

"Interesting. A meeting without inviting me."

"You're busy," I reminded him.

"Not too busy to investigate."

Honey straightened.

"Keifer, your next guest is waiting."

"Then why are you still standing here?"

"Because I was speaking with Jay."

Keifer looked at me.

"Are you stealing my secretary?"

I laughed.

"She's a person, Keifer. Not company property."

"I'm aware. Unfortunately, she keeps choosing to talk to you instead of finishing her work."

Honey gave him a look.

"I can hear you Keifer."

"Excellent. Communication is important in every workplace."

I shook my head.

"Go away."

Keifer leaned slightly toward me.

"That's not a very welcoming thing to say to the man who arranged your entire outfit."

"You arranged one dress."

"One very important dress."

"Go."

He smiled.

"Fine. But don't miss me too much."

Honey waited until he was a few steps away.

Then she whispered—

"See what I mean?"

I laughed again.

As the afternoon progressed, the business discussions gradually began winding down.

Keifer had spoken with almost every important guest, and the feedback about the new branch was overwhelmingly positive.

I was standing near the windows when he finally approached me.

"Ready?"

I looked at him.

"For what?"

"Going home."

"Your mansion?"

"Our mansion for tonight."

I raised an eyebrow.

"Your mansion, Keifer."

He placed a hand over his chest.

"That's hurtful."

"It's accurate."

"Fine. My mansion. But you're coming with me."

"Was that an invitation?"

"No. That was an announcement."

I laughed.

He offered his hand.

"Come on. The first evening is about to begin."

The drive to the mansion was quieter than the day had been.

Keifer sat beside me, scrolling through a few messages on his phone.

I watched him for a moment.

"Keifer?"

"Hmm?"

"You did well today."

He looked up.

"Thank you."

"I'm serious."

"So am I."

I smiled.

"You worked so hard for this."

He placed his phone aside.

"And I would do it all again."

"Even the orchid argument?"

"Especially the orchid argument. It was a defining moment in my career."

I laughed.

"Idiot."

He reached for my hand.

"Did you enjoy the ceremony?"

"I loved it."

"Good."

"You looked very confident."

"I was."

"Not nervous at all?"

"Not about the speech."

I glanced at him.

"Then what were you nervous about?"

He looked at me for a second.

"Whether you'd like the dress."

I stared at him.

"You're joking."

"I'm not."

"Mark Keifer Watson, the man who just opened an entire company, was worried about whether I liked a dress?"

"Priorities."

I shook my head, smiling.

He lifted my hand and pressed a gentle kiss to my knuckles.

"Besides, there are some things I care about more than business."

My cheeks warmed.

I looked out the window.

"Stop saying things like that."

"Why?"

"Because."

"Very convincing argument."

"Keifer."

He chuckled.

"Alright. I'll behave."

A few seconds passed.

Then—

"Unless you ask me not to."

I turned toward him.

"KEIFER!"

He burst out laughing.

"What? I said I'd behave. I never said I'd stop flirting."

I covered my face.

He looked entirely too pleased with himself.

By the time we reached the mansion, the evening had settled in.

The entrance was illuminated, the garden decorations were glowing, and staff members were making the final preparations for the first night's celebration.

Several business associates had already arrived.

Keifer stepped out first and offered me his hand.

I accepted.

As we walked toward the entrance, he slowed down to match my pace.

"Comfortable?"

"Yes."

"Hungry?"

"A little."

"Good. I'll have something arranged."

"Keifer, you don't need to personally arrange everything."

"I know."

"Then why do you keep doing it?"

He looked at me.

"Because I can."

I sighed.

"You're impossible."

"Yet here you are."

"Unfortunately."

He smiled.

"Fortunately."

We entered the mansion together.

The atmosphere was elegant, with soft music playing in the background and guests gathering in small groups.

Keifer greeted several familiar faces, introducing me whenever necessary.

I stayed beside him, occasionally exchanging greetings and polite conversations.

Then a man approached us.

He was one of the business associates Keifer had spoken with earlier that afternoon.

"Watson! There you are."

Keifer shook his hand.

"Good evening, Mr. Collins."

"Congratulations again. The opening was impressive."

"Thank you. I'm glad you could make it."

Mr. Collins then turned toward me.

"And I don't believe we've been properly introduced."

Keifer glanced at me.

I offered a polite smile.

"I'm Jay."

"Pleasure. So, Jay, may I ask how you know our young CEO?"

I looked at Keifer.

He looked back at me.

For a moment, neither of us answered.

Mr. Collins smiled.

"Forgive my curiosity. I've noticed that he seems to have a particular habit of looking for you whenever you leave his side."

My cheeks warmed.

Keifer chuckled softly.

"Have you been keeping track?"

"Hard not to notice."

Mr. Collins turned back toward him.

"So, tell me, Watson. Is she someone special to you?"

Keifer didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he looked at me.

His expression softened.

The noise of the celebration seemed to fade into the background for a moment.

Then he smiled.

"She's important."

That was all he said.

No explanation.

No elaborate introduction.

Just four simple words.

But he didn't look away from me.

And somehow, those words stayed with me longer than his entire speech that morning.

I lowered my eyes, hiding the smile threatening to appear.

Keifer's fingers brushed against mine.

Then, quietly, he leaned closer.

"What's that smile for?"

"Nothing."

He raised an eyebrow.

"Liar."

I glanced at him.

"You started it."

He smiled.

"Then I suppose I'll have to finish it."

"Keifer…"

"Not tonight, sweetheart."

He looked toward the guests before returning his attention to me.

"Tonight, we're celebrating."

And as the first evening of the two-day celebration began, I had no idea that the words he had chosen so carefully would soon become something much bigger.

Something he wouldn't whisper.

Something he wouldn't leave open to interpretation.

Something everyone would hear.

If I had to describe Keifer Watson's mansion that evening in one word, it would be extravagant.

The entire place looked like something straight out of a magazine.

Warm golden lights illuminated the gardens. White flowers decorated the entrance, while the main hall had been transformed into an elegant gathering space. A grand dining arrangement occupied one side, with beautifully decorated tables, polished glassware, and an impressive display of food.

Soft music played in the background.

Staff members moved around efficiently, making sure everything was perfect.

And in the middle of it all stood Keifer.

Talking to three different people.

At the same time.

I watched him from beside the staircase.

"Mr. Watson, the Singapore team would like to discuss the distribution agreement," one executive said.

"Tomorrow morning. Have the documents ready."

"Certainly."

"And the revised proposal?"

"Already sent to your email."

"Good."

Another man approached.

"Keifer, congratulations. The new branch is quite an achievement."

"Thank you, Mr. Harrison."

"Your father would be proud."

Keifer gave a polite nod.

"Thank you. I appreciate that."

The conversation continued, and I quietly stepped away to avoid getting in their way.

I had barely reached the refreshment table when someone spoke behind me.

"Escaping the CEO?"

I turned.

Honey.

She looked beautiful in an elegant evening outfit, holding a glass of juice and wearing the expression of someone who knew far too much.

"I'm not escaping anyone."

"Of course not."

She glanced toward Keifer.

"Then why does he look like he's about to send a search party?"

I followed her gaze.

Keifer was still speaking to the executives, but his eyes had already found me.

He raised his eyebrows.

I mouthed, I'm fine.

He nodded, although he looked unconvinced.

Honey laughed.

"See?"

"What's so funny?"

"Nothing. I'm just enjoying the evening."

"By making fun of your boss?"

"It's one of the benefits."

I laughed.

She handed me a glass.

"Here. You should have something to drink before he comes over and asks whether you've had enough water."

I accepted it.

"Does he really do that?"

Honey gave me a look.

"Jay, he asked the catering team whether they had prepared something you liked."

I blinked.

"He did?"

"Twice."

I looked toward him again.

Honey continued.

"And he personally checked the seating arrangement because he wanted you to have a comfortable place."

I shook my head.

"He didn't need to do all that."

"Try telling him."

As if he had heard us, Keifer finally excused himself from the executives and walked over.

"Having fun?"

I nodded.

"Yes."

"Good."

He looked at the glass in my hand.

"Juice?"

"Yes, Keifer. Juice."

"Have you eaten?"

I stared at him.

Honey immediately turned away, pretending to be interested in the decorations.

"Keifer."

"What?"

"You've asked me that already."

"And?"

"And I answered."

"Did you?"

"Yes!"

He considered that.

"Interesting. I don't remember."

I narrowed my eyes.

"You're impossible."

He leaned closer.

"I'm attentive. There's a difference."

"There's a very thin line."

"Then don't cross it. I like having you this close."

I nearly spilled my drink.

"Can you behave for five minutes?"

He glanced at his watch.

"Five minutes? That's a very unreasonable request."

Honey coughed.

It sounded suspiciously like a laugh.

Keifer turned toward her.

"Something you'd like to add?"

"No, sir. I'm simply enjoying the excellent management."

"Wonderful. Enjoy it from a distance."

Honey smiled sweetly.

"Of course, sir."

She walked away.

I looked at Keifer.

"You're mean to her."

"She enjoys irritating me."

"Maybe because you're easy to irritate."

He looked at me.

"Careful. You're becoming very comfortable insulting your CEO."

"I'm not employed by you."

"That's the problem. I can't even put you on the payroll."

I laughed.

"Why would you?"

He smiled.

"Chief Executive Officer of Keeping Me Distracted."

I shook my head.

"I'm leaving."

He gently caught my hand.

"Don't. I haven't finished talking to you."

"You have investors waiting."

"They can wait a minute."

"Keifer!"

He sighed dramatically.

"Fine. But eat something."

I pointed at the refreshment table.

"I'm literally standing beside food."

"Excellent. We're making progress."

A little later, I found myself speaking with two of the investors.

One of them, an older woman named Mrs. Anderson, had been asking me about my education.

"So you're studying at St. Celestine College?"

"Yes, ma'am."

"And what are your favourite subjects?"

I told her, and we ended up having a surprisingly interesting conversation.

She seemed genuinely interested in my answers.

"You speak very thoughtfully," she complimented. "It's refreshing to meet someone so young with such a clear perspective."

"Thank you. That's very kind of you."

The man beside her smiled.

"Watson certainly has interesting company."

I laughed politely.

"I'm sure he does."

Mrs. Anderson tilted her head.

"Tell me, dear. How long have you known Keifer?"

I hesitated for a moment.

"Quite some time."

"Family friend?"

Before I could answer, a familiar voice interrupted.

"Something closer."

I turned.

Keifer had appeared beside us.

Mrs. Anderson smiled knowingly.

"Ah. There you are."

Keifer greeted them both before resting his hand lightly against the back of my chair.

"Is everything alright?"

"Perfectly," Mrs. Anderson replied. "We were just getting to know Jay."

"Good. She's worth getting to know."

I looked at him.

He looked completely serious.

The older woman smiled.

"Well, I can see why you keep checking on her."

Keifer gave a small laugh.

"Do I?"

"Quite frequently."

He glanced at me.

"She tends to disappear."

I frowned.

"I was standing right here."

"Exactly. A terrible habit."

Mrs. Anderson laughed.

"Don't worry, Jay. We'll make sure he doesn't lose you."

"Thank you," I replied.

Keifer leaned slightly toward me.

"See? Even the investors are on my side."

"Unfortunately, they haven't heard my side."

"I'm willing to listen."

"Good. Stop following me everywhere."

He smiled.

"Denied."

As the evening progressed, the conversations became more focused on business.

Keifer was discussing future opportunities with a group of executives near the dining area.

I was standing a little farther away, talking to Honey, when I overheard part of their conversation.

"The Philippine branch is only the beginning," Keifer was saying. "I want the regional operations to become more independent over the next few quarters."

One of the executives nodded.

"That will require significant oversight."

"I'm aware."

"And London?"

"I'll continue supervising the London operations. I'll travel when necessary, but the Philippine team will handle its responsibilities here."

Another man asked, "Have you considered appointing another regional director?"

"I'm reviewing the candidates."

I looked at him from a distance.

He sounded so calm.

So certain.

But I knew how much work that decision would involve.

More meetings. More travel. More responsibilities.

He had already been working harder than anyone I knew.

Honey noticed my expression.

"Thinking about something?"

I looked at her.

"Just listening."

"It's a lot, isn't it?"

I nodded.

"He's taking on so much."

Honey followed my gaze.

"That's Keifer. Once he decides something matters, he gives it everything."

I smiled faintly.

"I know."

She looked at me.

"You worry about him."

"Someone has to."

Honey smiled.

"Trust me. He has plenty of people looking after the company. He could probably use someone reminding him to look after himself."

I glanced at Keifer again.

He was listening to an executive, his expression serious.

"I'm trying."

Honey's smile softened.

"I think he knows."

A little later, Keifer finally returned.

"Jay."

I turned.

"Hmm?"

"Come with me."

"Where?"

"Somewhere."

I narrowed my eyes.

"That's very informative."

"I pride myself on my communication skills."

"Clearly."

He took my hand and led me away from the main hall.

We passed through a quieter corridor and reached a spacious balcony overlooking the garden.

The music was softer here.

The lights from the celebration reflected across the glass doors, and for the first time that evening, there weren't a dozen people waiting to speak to him.

Keifer loosened his tie slightly.

I looked at him.

"Tired?"

"A little."

"Then why are you still working?"

"Because apparently, I'm responsible for an entire company."

I laughed.

"Poor you."

"Very unsympathetic."

"Would you like me to arrange a sympathy card?"

"Maybe a kiss would be more effective."

I looked at him.

"Keifer!"

He smiled.

"What? I'm suggesting a perfectly reasonable alternative."

I shook my head, laughing.

He leaned against the railing.

"Come here."

I stepped beside him.

For a moment, we simply watched the garden.

Then he looked at me.

"Did you enjoy tonight?"

I nodded.

"I did."

"Really?"

"Yes. Everything was beautiful."

"Good."

"Your guests are nice. The food is amazing. Honey is hilarious."

"That's debatable."

"And you?"

He raised an eyebrow.

"What about me?"

"You've been running around all evening."

"Occupational hazard."

"You should rest."

"I will."

"You said that yesterday."

"And I meant it yesterday."

I gave him a look.

He laughed.

"Alright. I'll try."

I folded my arms.

"You've also checked on me approximately every five minutes."

"Only five?"

"Keifer."

"What?"

"You don't have to keep checking whether I'm comfortable."

He looked at me for a moment.

"I know."

"Then why do you?"

His expression softened.

"Because I keep looking for you."

I blinked.

He continued.

"Every room I enter, every conversation I have, every time someone calls my name... I find myself checking whether you're nearby."

My heart gave an embarrassing little flutter.

"That's ridiculous."

"Probably."

"You have an entire company to think about."

"I do."

"Investors."

"Yes."

"Employees."

"Unfortunately, several thousand."

I laughed.

"And yet?"

"And yet, you're the person I look for."

I lowered my eyes.

He gently tilted his head.

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing."

"Jay."

I looked up.

He smiled.

"Don't hide that smile."

"What smile?"

"That one."

I tried to look away.

He laughed softly.

"There's my favourite person."

I shook my head.

"You're getting too good at this."

"At what?"

"Making me forget what I was going to say."

He considered that.

"Then perhaps I should keep doing it."

"Keifer!"

He laughed and gently pulled me into a side embrace.

I rested my head against his shoulder for a moment.

"I'm proud of you," I whispered.

He went quiet.

I lifted my head.

"Really. I know how much this means to you. You worked so hard for it, and I hope you know that I see all of it."

His expression changed.

The teasing disappeared.

"Thank you, Jay."

I smiled.

"You deserve this."

He looked at me for a long moment.

"Having you here makes it better."

I didn't know what to say.

So I simply held his hand.

And he squeezed mine.

"THERE YOU ARE!"

We both turned.

Honey stood near the balcony entrance, holding her clipboard.

Keifer closed his eyes briefly.

"What now?"

"Your guests are asking for you."

"Which guests?"

"The ones who came to attend your business celebration, sir."

I laughed.

Keifer looked at her.

"Very funny."

"Thank you."

Honey turned toward me.

"Sorry, Jay. I'm stealing him."

I smiled.

"Go ahead."

Keifer looked offended.

"Just like that?"

I nodded.

"Your company needs you."

He looked at Honey.

"See? This is why I need better employees."

Honey smiled.

"Your next meeting is in ten minutes."

"It's a party."

"Then your next party-related business discussion is in ten minutes."

I laughed.

Keifer offered me his hand.

"Come on."

I accepted.

As we walked back, he leaned closer.

"Don't get too comfortable without me."

I glanced at him.

"Why?"

"Because I might get jealous of the furniture."

I stared at him.

"The furniture?"

"It's been getting more attention than I have."

I burst out laughing.

"You're unbelievable."

"Yet you keep holding my hand."

I looked down.

He was right.

I didn't let go.

By the time the first night began winding down, several guests had already started leaving.

The music had softened, the staff were clearing some of the tables, and the remaining guests had gathered near the main hall.

Keifer was speaking with Mr. Bennett and a few other investors.

I stood a short distance away, chatting with Mrs. Anderson.

Then I heard Mr. Bennett laugh.

"Watson, I must say, you've changed."

Keifer raised an eyebrow.

"Have I?"

"Before today, I thought your entire life revolved around business."

One of the other men joined in.

"Apparently, we've been mistaken. You've finally found something more important than your company."

Keifer didn't answer immediately.

Mr. Bennett continued.

"Should we be worried? Will Watson Corp lose its CEO to something other than work?"

Everyone laughed.

Keifer simply smiled.

Then his eyes moved toward me.

I looked up at the exact same moment.

Our gazes met across the room.

He didn't deny it.

He didn't make a joke.

He didn't even try to change the subject.

He just looked at me.

And smiled.

The laughter gradually faded into curious silence.

I noticed two guests exchange glances.

Someone whispered something to the person beside them.

Honey, standing near the entrance, caught my eye and raised her eyebrows as if to say, There it is.

I quickly looked away.

But I could still feel Keifer's gaze.

Mr. Bennett followed it.

Then he smiled.

"Ah. I see."

Keifer finally turned back toward him.

"Do you?"

"Quite clearly."

Another investor chuckled.

"Well, I suppose we'll have to learn to share your attention."

Keifer gave a small smile.

"I'm sure you'll manage."

The men laughed again.

But this time, the laughter carried something different.

Curiosity.

Understanding.

And whispers.

I stood there, trying to pretend I hadn't noticed any of it.

Then my phone vibrated.

A message.

Keifer: Stop looking so nervous.

I glanced across the room.

He was still talking to the guests.

Another message appeared.

Keifer: You look beautiful when you're flustered, by the way.

I pressed my lips together.

Me: You're the reason I'm flustered.

His reply came almost immediately.

Keifer: Then I'm doing something right.

I shook my head, smiling at my phone.

Across the room, he looked at me one more time.

And I knew one thing for certain.

The first night was supposed to be about business.

But somehow, everyone had started noticing something else.

Something Keifer wasn't quite ready to explain.

Not yet.

The first day had been all about business.

The second?

Apparently, Keifer had decided to turn his mansion into the headquarters of chaos.

And I was beginning to think he enjoyed watching me lose my mind.

"Keifer."

"Hmm?"

I stared at the enormous list on the tablet in my hands.

"Why are there so many names?"

He glanced at the screen, then at me. "Because I know a lot of people."

"That's not an answer."

"It's a very accurate answer, though."

I narrowed my eyes.

He was sitting on the edge of the sofa, looking entirely too pleased with himself. His sleeves were rolled up, his hair was slightly messy, and he had the audacity to look relaxed while I was staring at a guest list that seemed longer than my college syllabus.

"Your family, my family, Section E, your college friends, my college acquaintances, their partners…" I scrolled down. "Keifer, did you invite the entire Philippines?"

"Not yet. I was considering it."

"I'm serious!"

"So am I. I even checked the seating arrangements."

I dropped the tablet onto the sofa.

He laughed.

"Yesterday was for Watson Corp," he explained, reaching for my hand. "Investors, executives, business partners. Today is different."

"How?"

"Yesterday, we celebrated what the company is becoming." His thumb brushed over my knuckles. "Today, we celebrate the people who make everything outside that company worth coming home to."

I looked at him.

For once, I had no immediate reply.

"And," he added, leaning closer, "I wanted the people who matter to us to see what we've built."

"Us?"

"Did I stutter?"

"Keifer."

"Jay-Jay."

"You're impossible."

"Yet here you are, still holding my hand."

I looked down.

He was right.

Unfortunately.

"Stop using my own words against me."

"Then stop giving me such good material."

I tried to pull my hand away, but he gently tightened his fingers around mine.

"Where do you think you're going?"

"To check the decorations."

"Already checked."

"The food?"

"Handled."

"The invitations?"

"Sent."

"The guests?"

"On their way."

I blinked.

"Then what am I supposed to do?"

He looked at me with a straight face.

"Stay beside me."

I stared at him for a second before shaking my head.

"Your flirting needs serious supervision."

"I'm open to private lessons."

"KEIFER!"

His laughter followed me as I stood up.

By late afternoon, the mansion looked completely different from the previous night.

The formal arrangements had been replaced with a warmer, more welcoming atmosphere. The garden was decorated with soft lights, the outdoor seating areas were filled with flowers, and music played gently through the speakers.

There were tables filled with food, a separate dessert section, and enough space for everyone to gather without feeling crowded.

It was beautiful.

And it was about to get loud.

The first arrivals were my family.

"JAY-JAY!"

I barely had time to turn before Jena rushed toward me.

I laughed as she wrapped her arms around me.

"Careful! You're going to knock me over!"

"It's been too long!"

"You saw me recently!"

"That doesn't count!"

Tita Gemma approached next, smiling as she pulled me into a hug.

"Look at you," she said, adjusting a strand of my hair. "All dressed up."

I smiled. "Tita!"

Jeana and Jasfer greeted me soon after, followed by the others.

"Where's the host?" Aries asked, looking around.

"Probably somewhere pretending he's not nervous," I replied.

"Keifer? Nervous?" Angelo raised an eyebrow.

"About the party? No. About you? Maybe."

Aries laughed.

"Good. Someone should keep him on his toes."

"I'm standing right here," Keifer said from behind us.

I turned.

He had just walked over, greeting my family with his usual confidence.

"Mr. Watson," Jasfer said, extending his hand.

"Sir."

They shook hands.

"Congratulations on the branch opening."

"Thank you. I'm glad you could make it."

Jeana smiled at him. "You've arranged everything beautifully."

"I'm glad you like it."

Tita Gemma looked between us, then gave me a knowing smile.

I immediately knew that expression.

"Tita, don't."

"I haven't said anything."

"You're thinking it."

"Am I not allowed to think?"

Keifer leaned slightly toward her.

"Please continue, Tita. I'm interested in hearing what she's afraid of."

"KEIFER!"

He grinned.

Aries burst out laughing.

"Bro, you're already part of the family. You're not even trying to hide it."

Keifer glanced at me.

"Should I?"

I looked away before anyone could see my face.

The next arrivals came in groups.

And then the real chaos began.

"JAY-JAY!"

I turned just in time to see Ci-N approaching.

"CI-N!"

She pulled me into a tight hug.

"Finally! I thought you were going to disappear into this mansion and become some mysterious rich person."

"I've been here for one day."

"Exactly. One day too many."

I laughed.

Behind her stood Yuri, David, Felix, Eman, Calix, Edrix, Denzel, Drew, Blaster, Kit, Mayo, Rory, Eren, Josh, and the rest of our familiar troublemakers.

The girls arrived with them—Rakki, Ella, Freya, Mica, and Grace.

The mansion had officially lost its peace.

"Watson!"

Yuri spread his arms as he approached Keifer.

Keifer looked at him.

"Unfortunately, you're still alive."

"Missed you too, brother."

They exchanged a quick handshake before Yuri pulled him into a brief hug.

"Look at you," Yuri said, stepping back. "Opening branches, hosting parties, wearing expensive suits. When did you become responsible?"

"When I realised someone had to compensate for your lack of it."

"Still rude. Good. I was worried success had changed you."

"Don't worry. You're still irritating."

"That's friendship."

"That's a medical condition."

I laughed.

Yuri turned toward me.

"Jay-Jay! How's life with this man?"

"Exhausting."

Keifer placed a hand over his chest.

"That's hurtful."

"It's honest," I replied.

Ci-N slipped her arm through mine.

"Don't worry. I'll protect you."

Keifer raised an eyebrow.

"From what?"

"From you."

He nodded thoughtfully.

"Fair. I can be difficult to resist."

Yuri made a choking sound.

"Did you hear that? The man has become unbearable."

"Jealous?" Keifer asked.

"Of your ego? Never."

Within minutes, everyone had found something to do.

Eman had somehow reached the food section and was examining the arrangements with the seriousness of someone inspecting a five-star restaurant.

"Who organised this?" he asked one of the staff members.

"I did," Keifer answered, walking over.

Eman looked at the dishes.

"Good selection. But the presentation of these desserts could be better."

Keifer glanced at him.

"Should I be worried?"

"Not if you let me fix it."

"Go ahead. Just don't take over the entire kitchen."

Eman smiled.

"No promises."

Nearby, Blaster was examining the music setup.

"Who made this playlist?"

"I did," Keifer replied.

Blaster gave him a look.

"You?"

"Is that difficult to believe?"

"Honestly? Yes."

Keifer shrugged. "I have many talents."

"Name three."

"Business. Patience. Annoying Jay-Jay."

I turned around.

"I'm standing right here!"

"See? Talent number three."

Blaster laughed and shook his head.

Meanwhile, Rory stood near the entrance, quietly observing the room.

I approached him.

"What are you doing?"

"Watching."

"Watching what?"

"People."

I looked around. "That's a little creepy."

"It's called observing."

"It's called being nosy," Denzel interrupted, appearing beside him.

Rory didn't even look at him.

"Your tie is crooked."

Denzel immediately looked down.

"Where?"

Rory finally smiled.

"Got you."

Denzel stared at him.

"I'm surrounded by lunatics."

"Welcome to the group," Eren said, appearing from nowhere.

He placed an arm around Denzel's shoulder.

"It's too late to escape."

Kit and Mayo were sitting together near the garden.

Kit was trying to reach for a glass placed just beyond his side of the table, but Mayo picked it up and handed it to him before he could stretch any further.

"Here."

"Thank you."

"You're welcome."

Kit smiled.

Mayo noticed.

"What?"

"Nothing."

"You're smiling."

"Am I not allowed to?"

Mayo looked away, but the small smile on his face gave him away.

I nudged Ci-N.

"Look at them."

She followed my gaze.

"Cute."

"Very."

"Unlike some people," she said, glancing toward Keifer.

I raised an eyebrow.

"What does that mean?"

"Nothing."

"Ci-N."

"I'm just saying, some people don't know how to behave normally when they like someone."

Before I could respond, Keifer appeared beside us.

"Are we discussing me?"

"No," Ci-N answered immediately.

"Interesting. I heard my name."

"You have excellent hearing," I said.

"Especially when you're talking about me."

He moved closer, resting his hand lightly against the small of my back.

Ci-N looked at his hand.

Then at me.

Then back at his hand.

"Oh, I see."

I sighed.

"Don't start."

"I haven't started anything."

Keifer leaned toward her.

"She's right. Don't start. I'm trying to have a peaceful afternoon."

Ci-N laughed.

"You? Peaceful?"

"I'm capable of many things."

"Except leaving Jay-Jay alone."

He looked down at me.

"Why would I do that?"

My cheeks warmed.

Ci-N made an exaggerated gagging sound.

"I'm going to find food."

"Good idea," Keifer replied. "Eat something. You might become less annoying."

She pointed at him.

"I liked you better before."

"That's unfortunate."

The garden became even livelier as more guests arrived.

Dane and Eunice walked in together, immediately drawing attention from the group.

"Look who's finally here!" I called.

Eunice hurried toward me.

"Jay!"

We hugged, and Dane greeted everyone behind her.

"Nice place," he commented, looking around.

"Thank you," Keifer replied.

Dane glanced between us.

"So, how long have you two been hosting events together?"

I opened my mouth.

Keifer answered first.

"Long enough for her to know where everything is."

"That's not what I asked."

"Then ask a better question."

Dane laughed.

Eunice leaned toward me.

"Is he always like this?"

"Unfortunately."

"Sounds familiar."

I gave her a look.

She smiled innocently.

Clara arrived shortly after, greeting the group with a polite smile. I returned it, keeping the conversation brief.

Then I noticed Shun.

He had arrived with the Takahashi family.

I hadn't seen him in a while.

He approached with a calm smile, greeting the others before turning toward me.

"Jay-Jay. It's been a long time."

I smiled politely.

"Shun. It has."

He glanced around.

"Congratulations to Keifer. I heard the opening was a success."

"It was. He's been busy."

"I can imagine." He smiled. "Your family must be proud."

"They are."

We exchanged a few more words before he was called away by one of his relatives.

The interaction was brief.

Normal.

Nothing unusual.

But when I glanced toward Keifer, I noticed he was watching from across the garden.

Not angrily.

Not even obviously.

His expression had simply changed.

His jaw was a little tighter, and the glass in his hand had remained untouched.

I almost smiled.

Almost.

A little later, Aries and Ella joined us near the dessert table.

"Jay-Jay," Aries said, "tell Ella I'm the favourite sibling."

I stared at him.

"Why would I lie?"

Ella laughed.

"See? Even your sister knows."

"Half-sister," Aries corrected.

"Still my favourite," I replied.

He looked offended.

"Unbelievable."

Keifer walked over, picking up a small dessert.

"What's happening?"

"Aries is demanding recognition," I explained.

Keifer nodded.

"Understandable. It must be difficult living in your shadow."

Aries looked at him.

"Whose side are you on?"

"Jay-Jay's."

"Of course."

Ella laughed and slipped her hand into Aries's.

"Come on. Let's go."

Aries looked down at their joined hands.

Then at us.

"Don't start."

"I haven't said anything," I replied.

Keifer smiled.

"Neither have I."

"You're both thinking it."

"That's the dangerous part," Keifer said.

Aries groaned.

"I regret coming."

"You've been here for twenty minutes," Ella reminded him.

"Twenty minutes too long."

As the evening continued, I found myself standing near the garden entrance, watching everyone.

My family was laughing with Keifer's guests. Ci-N was arguing with Yuri about something. Eman was still inspecting the food, while Blaster had somehow convinced a few people to join him near the music setup.

Denzel and Eren were entertaining a group with their ridiculous stories.

Kit and Mayo were sharing a quiet conversation.

Rory was still observing everything.

It was exactly the kind of evening Keifer had wanted.

And I was happy.

Really happy.

Still, for a brief moment, that familiar, unexplained feeling returned.

It was faint.

Just a small discomfort I couldn't put into words.

I looked toward my family.

Everyone seemed perfectly fine.

Maybe I was simply tired.

"Hey."

Keifer's voice brought me back.

I turned.

He stood beside me, holding two glasses.

"What's going on in that head of yours?"

"Nothing."

He handed me a glass.

"That's a very convincing nothing."

I took it.

"I'm just watching everyone."

He followed my gaze.

"Good evening, isn't it?"

I nodded.

"You really invited everyone."

"Almost everyone."

"Who did you miss?"

He looked at me.

"You."

I blinked.

"What?"

"Yesterday. During the business event." He leaned slightly closer. "I was surrounded by people, but I kept looking for you."

My expression softened.

"Keifer…"

"Don't look at me like that."

"Like what?"

"Like you're about to make me say something embarrassing."

I laughed.

"You're already embarrassing."

"Only around you."

He gently brushed his fingers against mine.

Then, before I could reply, Yuri's voice interrupted us.

"Watson! Stop stealing the guest of honour!"

Keifer sighed.

"I'm going to fire him from being my best friend."

Yuri appeared beside us.

"You can't. I'm irreplaceable."

"Unfortunately."

Yuri glanced at me.

"Jay-Jay, please keep him occupied. He's becoming more dramatic by the minute."

I smiled.

"I'll try."

Keifer looked between us.

"Wonderful. Now both of you are against me."

"It's a group effort," Yuri replied.

The evening was far from over.

People were still arriving, conversations were overlapping, and the garden lights made the entire mansion feel warm and welcoming.

I was speaking with Eunice when I noticed Shun approaching again.

"Jay-Jay," he greeted warmly.

"Shun."

He smiled.

"I'm glad I got the chance to speak with you properly. How have you been?"

"Good. Busy with college."

"Same here. Though my family's been keeping me occupied with their hotel business."

I nodded.

"I heard about that."

He smiled.

"Perhaps we should catch up sometime."

"Maybe," I replied politely.

Across the room, Keifer noticed us.

He didn't move.

Didn't interrupt.

But something in his expression shifted.

Yuri, standing beside him, followed his gaze.

Then he looked at Keifer.

Then back at me.

A slow grin spread across his face.

"Oh."

Keifer didn't respond.

Yuri leaned closer.

"Careful, Watson. You're starting to look jealous."

Keifer took a sip from his glass.

"I'm not jealous."

Yuri looked at him.

"Right. And I'm the CEO of your company."

Keifer finally turned toward him.

"Keep talking."

Yuri grinned.

"I'm just saying. You might want to loosen your grip on that glass before it becomes a company expense."

Keifer looked down at his hand.

Then back at Yuri.

"Do you ever stop talking?"

"Not when you're this entertaining."

Keifer shook his head, but his eyes returned to me.

And Yuri noticed.

Of course he did.

Because if there was one person who knew Keifer Watson well enough to recognise trouble before it happened, it was Yuri.

And judging by the look on his face, he was enjoying every second of it.

If there was one thing I had learned about Keifer Watson, it was that he could make an entire room feel like it belonged to him without even trying.

And tonight, he had somehow managed to make the entire mansion feel like a celebration.

Music filled the garden. The lights shimmered above the guests, conversations blended with laughter, and the people we cared about were scattered everywhere.

It was loud.

It was chaotic.

It was perfect.

And Keifer?

He was being a problem.

A very handsome, very irritating problem.

"Jay-Jay."

I turned.

He was standing behind me, holding a glass of water.

"Drink."

I looked at the glass, then at him.

"I already have one."

"That one's empty."

I glanced at my hand.

It was, indeed, empty.

I took the glass from him.

"Thank you."

"Anything for you."

I rolled my eyes.

"You don't have to bring me something every five minutes."

"I know."

"Then why do you?"

He leaned slightly closer.

"Because I like having reasons to come back to you."

I stared at him.

He smiled.

"Drink your water."

And just like that, he walked away.

I stood there for a moment, wondering how someone could say something so effortlessly and then leave me to deal with the consequences.

"Are you going to drink that, or are you planning to stare at it all night?"

Ci-N appeared beside me.

I looked at her.

"Don't."

She smiled.

"I haven't said anything."

"You're about to."

"I'm just wondering how many times he's going to come over before you realise he's practically attached to you."

"He's not attached to me."

"Right. He just happens to know when your glass is empty, when you're hungry, when you're tired, and when you need someone to annoy you."

I took a sip.

"Can we talk about something else?"

"Of course."

She paused.

"Like your future husband?"

"CI-N!"

Her laughter disappeared into the music.

The evening continued, and Keifer's little appearances became increasingly difficult to ignore.

When I was speaking to Eunice, he appeared with a plate of food.

When I moved toward the garden, he asked whether I wanted to sit somewhere quieter.

When I was laughing with Denzel and Eren, he somehow ended up standing beside me.

At one point, I was talking to Blaster about the music when Keifer came over.

"Jay-Jay, come with me."

I turned.

"Where?"

"Somewhere."

"That's not an answer."

"It's a surprise."

Blaster looked between us.

"Should I be concerned?"

Keifer gave him a calm smile.

"Only if you plan on keeping her here all evening."

Blaster laughed.

"Take her. Please."

I stared at him.

"Traitor."

Keifer offered me his hand.

"Come on."

I looked at it.

Then at him.

"Where are we going?"

"Two steps away from everyone."

"Why?"

"Because I've been trying to talk to you for the last ten minutes, and apparently, everyone in this mansion has decided you're the most interesting person here."

I raised an eyebrow.

"Maybe I am."

He smiled.

"Believe me, I noticed."

I placed my hand in his.

And he led me toward the quieter side of the garden.

We hadn't even reached the seating area when Yuri appeared.

"Watson!"

Keifer closed his eyes briefly.

"Why?"

"Why what?"

"Why are you everywhere?"

Yuri grinned.

"Because I'm your best friend."

"That's not a qualification."

"It's a lifelong position."

I laughed.

Yuri looked at me.

"Jay-Jay, do you know what he's been doing all evening?"

I shook my head.

"Should I?"

"He has checked on you approximately seventeen times."

"Yuri."

"Eighteen, actually. I forgot the time he brought you water."

Keifer gave him a warning look.

Yuri ignored it.

"And every time someone talks to you, he suddenly develops an urgent reason to be nearby."

"I'm standing right here," Keifer reminded him.

"Exactly. That's the problem."

I covered my mouth to hide my laughter.

Keifer looked at me.

"You're enjoying this?"

"A little."

"Wonderful. I'm being bullied in my own house."

Yuri patted his shoulder.

"It's called character development."

"Get a hobby."

"I have one. It's watching you embarrass yourself."

Keifer shook his head.

"I'm surrounded by idiots."

"And yet," Yuri said, "you invited all of us."

"I'm beginning to regret that decision."

A little later, I found myself near the main seating area with Eunice, Dane, Freya, Mica, and Grace.

We were talking about college when Denzel joined us.

"So," he began, looking between me and the direction Keifer had disappeared in, "how long are we pretending?"

I frowned.

"Pretending what?"

"That nothing is happening."

Eunice immediately smiled.

"Denzel!"

"What? I'm asking a genuine question."

Mica leaned forward.

"I was wondering the same thing."

Grace nodded.

"Honestly, I thought you two were already together."

I nearly choked on my drink.

"What?"

Freya laughed.

"Jay, please. The way he looks at you isn't exactly subtle."

"It's just how he is."

Denzel raised an eyebrow.

"Does he bring everyone water?"

"No."

"Does he remember everyone's favourite food?"

I hesitated.

"Probably."

"Does he abandon conversations with important guests because someone across the room laughed?"

I opened my mouth.

Then closed it.

Eunice laughed.

"That's what I thought."

"Can we please talk about something else?"

"Of course," Mica replied sweetly. "Are you two officially together?"

I stared at her.

"That's not a different subject!"

Everyone burst into laughter.

And, naturally, Keifer chose that exact moment to arrive.

"What's so funny?"

"Nothing," I answered immediately.

Denzel looked delighted.

"We were discussing you."

Keifer glanced at me.

"Were you?"

"No," I said.

"Yes," Denzel answered at the same time.

Keifer smiled.

"Interesting. Should I be worried?"

"Very," Yuri said, appearing behind him.

Keifer sighed.

"Do you have a tracking device on me?"

"Wouldn't need one. You keep walking toward Jay-Jay."

I wanted the ground to open.

Keifer, however, looked perfectly comfortable.

Dane crossed his arms.

"So, Watson. Are you two officially together or not?"

The group went quiet.

I looked at Keifer.

He looked at me.

Then he smiled.

"Why? Is there a deadline?"

Denzel laughed.

"That's not an answer."

"It's the answer you're getting."

Mica leaned toward Grace.

"He's avoiding the question."

"Very obviously," Grace whispered.

Keifer heard them.

"I'm not avoiding anything."

I looked at him.

"Then answer."

His eyes returned to mine.

"Would you like me to?"

My heart skipped.

I immediately looked away.

"Can we please move on?"

He chuckled.

"Of course, sweetheart."

The group erupted.

"Sweetheart?" Denzel repeated.

"Interesting," Yuri added.

"Very interesting," Eren said, joining them.

I covered my face.

I was never going to recover from this.

Shun approached a little later.

"Jay-Jay."

I turned toward him.

"Hey, Shun."

"Enjoying the evening?"

"I am. Are you?"

"Definitely. It's a beautiful place."

He glanced toward the garden.

"Would you like to take a look around? I haven't seen the entire property yet."

Before I could answer, Keifer appeared beside me.

"Have you seen the garden?"

Shun looked at him.

"Not all of it."

"It's quite large. The staff can show you around."

I looked at Keifer.

He was smiling.

Politely.

A little too politely.

Shun nodded.

"Thank you. I might do that."

Keifer placed his hand lightly at my back.

"Jay-Jay was just about to join the others."

I turned toward him.

"Was I?"

He looked down at me.

"Unless you had other plans."

There was a tiny pause.

Then I smiled.

"No. I was just going to find Ci-N."

"Perfect."

Shun excused himself, and Keifer watched him leave.

I turned toward Keifer.

"Really?"

"What?"

"You're not even trying to be subtle."

He looked genuinely innocent.

"I have no idea what you're talking about."

"You practically assigned him a tour guide."

"It's called hospitality."

I laughed.

"Of course it is."

He leaned closer.

"Would you prefer I gave him the entire mansion?"

"Keifer!"

"What? I'm being generous."

"You're being ridiculous."

"Only because you're making it difficult to behave."

I shook my head, smiling despite myself.

A little later, the music changed to something slower.

People began gathering near the centre of the garden, some dancing, others simply enjoying the moment.

Keifer approached me.

"Dance with me."

I looked at the crowd.

"Here?"

"Unless you know another dance floor nearby."

"Everyone's watching."

"Let them."

I hesitated.

He held out his hand.

"Just one song."

I placed my hand in his.

"One."

He smiled.

"Deal."

His hand settled gently at my waist as we moved with the music.

For a while, neither of us spoke.

I could hear the conversations around us, the occasional laughter, and the music playing overhead.

But my attention was on him.

"You're quiet," he said.

"So are you."

"I'm enjoying the view."

I raised an eyebrow.

"There's a whole garden behind me."

"I'm aware."

"Keifer."

"What? I'm appreciating the decorations."

I narrowed my eyes.

"You're impossible."

He smiled.

"And yet you agreed to dance with me."

"It's one song."

"Then I'll have to make it count."

I looked up at him.

His expression softened.

"Thank you for today," he said.

"For what?"

"For being here. For making this feel like more than another event."

I smiled.

"You did all this."

"I know."

"Then why are you thanking me?"

"Because I wanted to share it with you."

My heart did something terribly inconvenient.

I looked away.

"Stop saying things like that."

"Why?"

"Because I don't know what to say."

He leaned a little closer.

"You don't always have to say something."

For a moment, I forgot about the crowd.

Then the song ended.

And someone clapped loudly.

"FINALLY!"

I turned.

Yuri stood with Denzel and Eren, all three looking far too pleased.

Keifer closed his eyes.

"I hate them."

I laughed.

"Don't. They're having fun."

"They're having fun at my expense."

"Maybe you deserve it."

He looked down at me.

"Careful, Jay-Jay. You're becoming very bold."

"Maybe I learned from you."

His smile widened.

"Then I've taught you well."

Later, when the crowd had become busy with the next round of music and conversations, Keifer found me near the balcony doors.

"Come with me for a minute."

I followed him to a quieter corner away from the main celebration.

He leaned against the railing.

I stood beside him.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"Nothing."

"That's my line."

He smiled.

"Then I suppose I've learned from you."

I laughed softly.

For a moment, we watched the garden.

Then I turned toward him.

"Can I ask you something?"

"Anything."

"Why do you keep looking at me whenever someone mentions us?"

His expression changed slightly.

"What do you mean?"

"You know exactly what I mean. When they ask if we're together, you look at me before answering. When they tease us, you check my reaction."

He was quiet.

I continued.

"Are you worried about what they'll think?"

"No."

"Then what?"

He looked at me properly.

"I'm worried about what you might feel."

I blinked.

"Me?"

"Jay-Jay, I know what I want. I've known for a while." His voice softened. "But I don't want to announce something you're not ready to share with everyone."

I looked at him.

"You think I would be uncomfortable?"

"I don't want to assume."

He reached for my hand.

"I can deal with people teasing me. I can deal with Yuri making my life miserable. I can even deal with Denzel asking ridiculous questions every five minutes."

I laughed.

"But I don't want you to feel pressured just because everyone else is curious."

My fingers tightened around his.

"Keifer…"

"You matter more than what anyone expects from us."

I didn't know what to say.

He had every reason to make a grand announcement. He clearly wanted people to know how he felt.

But he was still thinking about me first.

And somehow, that meant more than any speech could.

I stepped a little closer.

"Thank you."

He smiled.

"Always."

Then his expression turned playful.

"Besides, I have a reputation to maintain."

I raised an eyebrow.

"What reputation?"

"Being patient."

I laughed.

"You? Patient?"

"I'm trying very hard."

"It's not working."

"That's because you're distracting."

I shook my head.

"Don't start."

He leaned closer, his voice dropping into a teasing whisper.

"I haven't even started, Jay-Jay."

I stared at him.

"Keifer Watson!"

He laughed.

"What? You asked."

"I did not!"

"You're right. You didn't. I volunteered the information."

I covered my face.

"Please don't embarrass me in front of everyone."

He gently lowered my hands.

"Only when you're looking this cute."

I tried to glare at him.

It didn't work.

"Go away."

"Impossible."

"Why?"

He smiled.

"Because you're standing right here."

Eventually, the music softened and Keifer was called toward the centre of the garden.

The guests began gathering as he stepped forward with a microphone.

Yuri stood near the front, already looking entertained.

Keifer glanced around.

"Good evening, everyone."

The conversations gradually faded.

"First, I want to thank everyone who joined us yesterday to celebrate the opening of Watson Corp's Philippine branch. Your support, trust, and partnership mean a great deal to us."

A round of applause followed.

"Today, however, was different. Yesterday was about the company. Tonight was about the people who make everything outside the company meaningful."

His gaze moved across the crowd.

"To my family, thank you for your constant support. To my friends, thank you for being the people I can count on, even when you make it extremely difficult to enjoy a peaceful evening."

Everyone laughed.

Yuri raised his glass.

"You're welcome!"

Keifer shook his head.

"And to everyone who travelled, rearranged schedules, or simply made time to be here, thank you. I hope you enjoyed the evening as much as I did."

More applause followed.

He paused.

Then his eyes found mine.

For a second, everything else seemed to fade.

He looked as though he had something else to say.

Something he had been holding back.

His lips parted slightly.

But he stopped.

A faint smile appeared on his face.

"Enjoy the rest of your evening."

The applause filled the garden again.

I kept looking at him.

What had he almost said?

The celebration slowly came to an end.

Guests began saying their goodbyes, exchanging hugs, and thanking Keifer for the evening.

My family left after making me promise to visit soon. Ci-N hugged me twice, Yuri gave Keifer one last round of teasing, and Denzel loudly announced that he expected another party soon.

Keifer simply told him to leave before he changed his mind.

Eventually, the mansion grew quieter.

The music had stopped, the garden lights remained on, and the staff began clearing the tables.

I stepped onto the balcony.

Keifer was already there.

He turned when he heard me.

"Hey."

"Hey."

I walked beside him, looking out at the garden.

"So," I said, "are you satisfied?"

"With what?"

"The celebration."

He smiled.

"Very."

"Good. Because I don't think I can survive another guest list like that."

He laughed.

"Noted."

I leaned against the railing.

"Everything went perfectly. Your family enjoyed it, our friends had fun, and nobody destroyed your mansion."

"Denzel came close."

I laughed.

"That's true."

Keifer looked toward the garden.

"It was perfect."

I glanced at him.

"Then why do you look like something is missing?"

He turned toward me.

"Because there is."

I raised an eyebrow.

"What?"

He looked at me for a moment.

Then he smiled.

"There's still one thing I haven't done."

I straightened slightly.

"What thing?"

He didn't answer immediately.

Instead, he stepped closer.

"Something I've been wanting to do for a long time."

My heart skipped.

I tried to keep my expression normal.

"And what's stopping you?"

His eyes stayed on mine.

"Nothing."

"Then?"

He smiled.

"The right moment."

I stared at him.

"Keifer, you're being mysterious again."

"Am I?"

"Yes."

"Maybe I like keeping you curious."

"You're enjoying this."

"Very much."

I shook my head.

"You're impossible."

He reached for my hand, bringing it gently between his.

"Goodnight, Jay-Jay."

I looked up at him.

"Goodnight."

He brushed his thumb over my knuckles before letting go.

And just like that, he walked toward the balcony doors.

I remained where I was.

The celebration was over.

The guests had gone home.

The mansion was quiet again.

But Keifer's words kept replaying in my mind.

Something I've been wanting to do for a long time.

The right moment.

I didn't know what he had planned.

I didn't know when he intended to do it.

All I knew was that the way he had looked at me when he said those words had left my heart racing.

And for some reason, I had a feeling that the next day would be anything but ordinary.

To be continued…
