"Long enough," he says.
His eyes land on me for a second, soomething unreadable passes through them. Then he looks back at her.
"What's going on?"
She lifts a shoulder lightly. "I was just getting acquainted with your… wife."
The pause is deliberate nd I don't miss it.
Alex doesn't either.
"And?" he asks.
"And," she smiles faintly, "she's… interesting."
I scoff under my breath.
His gaze snaps back to me. "Bella."
"What?" I say, still heated.
He exhales slowly, dragging a hand through his hair.
"Both of you," he says, his voice firm now. "Stop it."
Neither of us moves nd neither of us speaks bt the tension doesn't disappear.
And as Alex stands between us, I realize something with a quiet kind of certainty...this isn't over….
When I step into the dining room and spot Mrs. Kline immediately. She gives me that same soft, knowing smile she always does.
"Good morning, dear."
"Morning," I reply, managing a small smile as I take a seat.
