Peter POV:
Preparation is supposed to be the quiet part.
It's the hum before the storm. The sound of energy cells charging, armor plates locking, engines whining awake.
Except quiet doesn't exist around a bunch of spiders.
I was halfway through running system checks on the Archangel when Gwen (the other Gwen, not mine) suddenly gasped.
"Oh my god!!! The Spot!"
Every spider froze.
Even the air seemed to tense.
"He's going after Miles's dad." She said, panic creeping into her voice. "And… probably anyone close to him."
I turned slowly.
"You're telling me," I said, voice low, calm and far too controlled, "that you forgot to mention the interdimensional quantum anomaly with the power to rip spacetime apart because you were too busy arguing about messing up my wedding cake?"
The silence was deafening.
Margo stammered. "We...we thought..."
"Don't," I cut her off. "Thinking implies analysis. You didn't think, you panicked and acted on your impulses."
I exhaled, steadying my tone. Anger helped no one but I could feel it radiating in my chest like a live fusion reactor.
A walking singularity of frustration, that is the Spot.
"Alright," I said finally. "We fix this. My way."
I opened a comm-link on my gauntlet and three holographic feeds flared to life.
Hank Pym's tiny figure appeared first. Literally tiny, sitting cross-legged on a micro workbench.
Bruce Banner's window was full of scattered gamma readings.
And Tony? Tony was upside-down, welding something that looked suspiciously illegal.
"Gentlemen," I said, pinching the bridge of my nose. "We've got a multiversal instability on deck. A being calling itself The Spot is trying to puncture the walls between dimensions using quantum tunneling. I need you to help me build Quantum Dimensional Dampeners and Energy Extractors based on the Vacuum Siphon schematics I'm uploading now."
Tony flipped upright midair, using his repulsors to hover.
"Whoa, whoa, Pete... Vacuum Energy Siphon? The concept of that is still not even theoretical."
"Got the schematics ready." I said flatly. "But I need it now."
Banner looked up, expression tight. "You're talking about pulling dimensional energy out of living space-time. If this goes wrong, we could punch a hole clean through the multiverse."
"Yeah," I said. "Spot's already doing it."
Pym was already scribbling calculations. "I can miniaturize the Quantum dampeners to fit within the Helicarrier's hull. Stark and Tony will need to make the siphon being able to concentrate on a single point."
"Done," I said. "I'll transmit a quantum anchor frequency once we're in position."
Tony grinned. "You know, it's cute how you still ask for our help when you could just build it yourself in half the time."
"It's called delegation, Tony. Look it up."
Banner muttered something about ego and genius being inversely proportional but I was already moving on.
---
I opened a new channel.
"Fury."
The Director's face appeared, unimpressed as always.
"Parker. You blowing up the world again or just renting it this time?"
"Neither. I need your Helicarrier."
He arched a brow. "You what?"
"It's already calibrated for atmospheric reentry and orbital anchoring. I'm going to retrofit it with Quantum dampeners and use it as a mobile dimensional stabilizer/ energy siphon."
Fury sighed. "You realize borrowing a Helicarrier isn't like borrowing a screwdriver, right?"
"You'll get it back. In one piece. Probably."
He gave me that long, suffering look only Fury could pull off.
"Fine. But I want a juicy discount on the next round of armaments and toys."
"Done," I said without hesitation. "Thirty percent off. Lifetime supply of plasma batteries."
"Sixty."
"Forty."
"Deal."
He hung up before I could smirk.
---
Behind me, I heard the quiet murmur of the spider gang.
Whispers mixed with awe.
"Did he just..." Pav began. "...call geniuses like they're on speed dial?" Hobie finished.
"Yup." Gwendolyn said nonchalantly. "And that's just before breakfast."
I didn't bother turning around.
Because at that moment, watching the light from the forge reflect off the Archangel's armor plating, I realized something simple and terrifying.
For all the power, all the technology, all the armies and alliances…
I was still just Peter Parker.
And I was about to go to war for a kid who reminded me of nothing about myself from this life or that life.
