Chapter 210 - Chapter 202: The Weight of Power and the Choice of the Future

"This plan must be implemented immediately."

"Yes, Lord Danzo!"

The command echoed through the dimly lit chamber, followed by the synchronized response of loyal subordinates. Orders were already being relayed, and the machinery of Konoha's shadow operations had begun to turn once more.

After officially becoming the Fifth Hokage, Tsunade wasted no time consolidating her authority.

Her first step was decisive and symbolic.

She personally treated and healed several key figures within Konoha—Hatake Kakashi, Uchiha Sasuke, Rock Lee, and others who represented the backbone of the village's next generation. Through her unparalleled medical ninjutsu, she not only restored their strength but also established her dominance among the elite jonin.

Strength commanded respect.

And Tsunade made sure no one questioned hers.

Soon after, she held discussions with Nara Shikaku. Known for his exceptional intellect and strategic insight, Shikaku's counsel proved invaluable. Under his guidance, Tsunade elevated the status of the Ino-Shika-Chō alliance, granting them greater influence within the village's decision-making structure.

This move secured the support of several major clans.

It was a calculated step—one that stabilized the internal political environment of Konoha.

In terms of foreign policy, Tsunade chose continuity over disruption.

She maintained Hiruzen Sarutobi's diplomatic approach, especially regarding Sunagakure. By repairing strained relations and strengthening the alliance, she ensured that the Land of Wind remained closely tied to the Land of Fire—almost like a subordinate partner on a national scale.

Peace, after all, was far more profitable than war.

Domestically, Tsunade followed another piece of advice from Hiruzen.

She focused on the younger generation.

Talented shinobi such as Hatake Kakashi, Might Guy, Sarutobi Asuma, and Yuhi Kurenai were given greater responsibilities and opportunities to lead. At the same time, Tsunade paid close attention to the rising stars of Naruto's generation.

The future of Konoha depended on them.

Meanwhile, Yakushi Kabuto—captured by Naruto—was undergoing intense interrogation.

Under Tsunade's orders, he was handed over to Morino Ibiki and the ANBU. Their goal was simple: extract every piece of valuable information hidden within his mind.

However, things were not so straightforward.

Orochimaru had anticipated this possibility.

Numerous seals had been placed within Kabuto's body and mind. Any attempt to forcibly extract information would trigger these safeguards, effectively killing him.

It was a dead end.

Even if Kabuto were executed or imprisoned indefinitely, Naruto's efforts in capturing him would ultimately yield little benefit.

Just as Tsunade was considering her options—

A seemingly insignificant individual stepped forward.

His name was Urushi.

At first glance, he was unremarkable—just another ordinary ninja within Konoha. No exceptional talent, no notable achievements.

Yet, for Yakushi Kabuto, he was something far more important.

He was family.

The two had grown up together in the orphanage. Urushi had always treated Kabuto as a younger brother, firmly believing that one day, Kabuto would return.

That belief had never wavered.

In another timeline, they would eventually reunite and rebuild the orphanage together, creating a place of refuge for children like themselves.

But now, things were different.

Urushi visited Kabuto in prison.

Their conversation was filled with memories—of simpler times, of shared struggles, of a home that once existed.

Kabuto's descent into darkness had not been entirely his fault.

At the heart of it all was a tragedy.

He had unknowingly killed Yakushi Nonou—the very woman who had raised him like a mother.

Worse still, she had not even recognized him in their final encounter.

That single moment had shattered him.

Urushi, however, refused to accept the narrative that Kabuto had been abandoned.

He believed Danzo Shimura had orchestrated everything.

"Director Nonou never forgot you," Urushi insisted. "She gave you your name. That alone proves how important you were to her."

His words carried weight.

For the first time in a long while, Kabuto hesitated.

Urushi extended his hand.

"Come back with me. The orphanage… it still needs you."

But redemption was not something that could be achieved overnight.

While dealing with Kabuto, Tsunade faced another pressing concern.

The Cursed Seals left behind by Orochimaru.

Both Naruto and Sasuke bore these marks.

As long as the seals remained, there was always the risk that Orochimaru could exploit them.

Yet, Tsunade found herself at a disadvantage.

This was not a conventional injury or illness. Medical ninjutsu alone was insufficient.

Still, she refused to give up.

She delved into forbidden archives, studied classified documents accessible only to the Hokage, and consulted Hiruzen Sarutobi—the "Professor" of ninjutsu.

She also sought insight from Mitarashi Anko, one of Orochimaru's former disciples and a bearer of the Cursed Seal herself.

Through relentless research and experimentation, Tsunade began to uncover fragments of a solution.

Naruto, as always, volunteered himself.

He had no desire to rely on such a dangerous power.

Even the Nine-Tails within him was something he struggled to accept.

The Cursed Seal was no different.

After numerous attempts, Tsunade achieved partial success.

While she could not completely remove the Cursed Seal, she managed to fully suppress its power within Naruto.

Naruto could no longer draw upon it.

And more importantly—

Orochimaru could no longer use it against him.

It was, for now, a sealed threat.

However, when Tsunade attempted to do the same for Sasuke—

He refused.

"Please… give me more time to consider," Sasuke said quietly.

Tsunade understood immediately.

She saw the conflict in his eyes.

The seal represented danger—but also power.

And Sasuke was desperate for strength.

She chose not to force him.

Instead, she entrusted the matter to Kakashi.

Somewhere within Konoha—

Sasuke lay on a tree branch, staring at the sky.

Below, voices drifted through the air.

"Did you hear? Uzumaki Naruto defeated Yakushi Kabuto!"

"They say Kabuto's strength was comparable to Kakashi's!"

"And Naruto even played a major role in the battle of the Sannin!"

"Unbelievable… that former dead-last has come this far?"

"He might even become a jonin soon!"

"He really lives up to being this generation's top genius!"

Each word struck Sasuke like a blade.

His brows furrowed.

"Naruto…"

His fist clenched tightly—

Then slowly relaxed.

Unlike before, his feelings toward Naruto were no longer simple.

Yes, there was still rivalry.

Even jealousy.

But above all—

There was respect.

And gratitude.

Naruto had saved his life more than once.

At this point, Naruto was not just a teammate.

He was a rival.

A goal.

Someone Sasuke could not afford to fall behind.

"What should I do…?"

Suddenly—

A pair of cold, crimson Sharingan eyes flashed through his mind.

Sasuke's body stiffened.

Cold sweat drenched his back.

"So this is where you've been hiding."

Kakashi's lazy voice broke the silence.

Sasuke didn't look down.

"Kakashi-sensei… what brings you here?"

Kakashi stood beside the tree, hands in his pockets, gazing at the clouds.

"Call it a teacher's duty."

Sasuke scoffed.

"Duty…?"

Then, without hesitation, he spoke:

"A teacher who couldn't even defeat Itachi Uchiha… how can you help me achieve my goal?"

The words were sharp.

But Kakashi didn't react.

"It's true," he said calmly. "Itachi's strength far surpasses mine."

"In this world, very few can match him."

"Perhaps only the Third Hokage… or the Legendary Sannin stand a chance."

Sasuke's expression changed.

"If that's the case… then I…"

Kakashi tilted his head slightly.

"Looking for a different teacher?"

Sasuke fell silent.

Even for him, admitting that wasn't easy.

Kakashi sighed softly.

"Living with obsession… is painful."

"I'm not speaking as your teacher right now."

"…but as someone who has been through it."

Sasuke glanced at him.

"Someone who has been through it…?"

Kakashi smiled faintly.

A sad smile.

"When I was young… I lost my father."

"I lost my teammates on the battlefield."

"And later… my most respected teacher and his wife sacrificed themselves for the village."

Sasuke was stunned.

This was the first time he had heard Kakashi speak of his past.

"I've felt despair," Kakashi continued. "I've fallen… more than once."

"But what did it change?"

Sasuke remained silent.

"As long as you're alive," Kakashi said, "you can only move forward."

"Even if you feel like a broken puppet… even if you're full of cracks inside…"

"You still have to live."

Sasuke lowered his head.

"Why?"

"Does it even matter?"

Kakashi scratched his cheek.

"Well… for the dead… and for the living, I suppose."

"But in the end… people live for themselves."

Sasuke frowned.

"That doesn't sound like something taught at the Academy."

Kakashi chuckled.

"You think you exist only to protect others?"

"But protecting those important to you… is also protecting a part of yourself."

"Because those people… are part of who you are."

Sasuke murmured softly—

"A part of myself…"

Kakashi nodded.

"I think you already understand that."

"Whether it's Naruto, Hinata, or your other comrades… you'd risk your life for them."

"If that's true… then your life has more meaning than just revenge."

Silence fell.

After a long moment, Sasuke spoke—

"All of this… Kakashi-sensei…"

"…you're just trying to make me give up on revenge."
