Chapter 268 - Chapter 268: Even if the world is against me, I will stand by your side

"I…"

Hearing Eric's taunt, Lana was immediately choked.

Although she wanted to express that her current situation was a bit bad, she ultimately pursed her lips and looked at Eric with a resentful gaze.

On the other side, Clark had already stopped Lex.

"Lex, you need help!"

"Help? Clark, you always stand on your self-righteous high ground, and that's why you're so annoying. No one needs your help, and no one expects someone to stand in front of them acting as a savior!"

Lex looked at Clark with an unfriendly gaze, "Don't block my way!"

"Lex, you're not yourself right now. Don't you know what you're doing? General Zod is dead, it's all over!"

"No! It's far from over, it's just a temporary setback. Kryptonians will eventually make a comeback, and Clark, you, you can't stop it!"

As soon as Lex finished speaking, he activated his super speed, instantly moving to Clark's side and sending him flying with a single palm strike.

"You think just because you killed General Zod, you can look down on everyone?"

Lex looked at Clark, who was lying on the ground, and shook his head, "I know your weakness, Clark. You can never be like a warrior, nor can you possess all the qualities of a warrior. Hesitation and indecision, embracing a compassionate heart, believing you can use your emotions to hatch all evil thoughts—you will only drown in your own naivete!"

Before Clark could even get up, Lex activated his superpower again, grabbing Clark and throwing him backward.

With a bang, Clark's body slammed heavily onto the ground, plowing a deep furrow along the surface.

Lex glanced at Clark disdainfully, then continued to charge towards him, only to be met by a punch to his jaw from Clark, who had rolled over and gotten up.

His jaw suddenly attacked, Lex fell heavily backward, slamming onto the ground.

Lex, with hatred in his eyes, was grabbed by the collar of his suit by a reacting Clark the moment he got up, and violently slammed backward.

Bang!

A violent crashing sound echoed as their bodies collided with a broadleaf tree, directly breaking it in half.

Lex, whose back had taken the impact, let out a painful groan.

Their bodies fell to the ground, one in front of the other.

Lex groaned, and Clark's super speed kicked in, instantly moving to Lex's front.

With one hand pressing down on Lex's chest, pinning him down, Clark drew the ice blade Jor-El had given him and pressed it against Lex's neck.

With just a little force, the ice blade could slice open his neck.

"This isn't naivete, Lex. If you bear a heavy responsibility, you must constantly imagine the weight you carry!"

Clark glared at Lex, "Always walking on thin ice!"

Gritting his teeth, he slowly pushed the ice blade into Lex's skin.

The steel body, which could originally withstand bullet impacts, immediately oozed tiny beads of blood upon contact with the seemingly fragile ice blade.

Feeling the threat of Death, Lex's breathing became a little more rapid.

"You can't do that, Clark!"

Lex said to Clark, "Look at your hand, it's trembling. You've already killed one of your own, you can't use it to end the life of another one of your own."

"There's nothing that's—impossible!"

Clark slowly pushed the ice blade deeper into Lex's skin.

Jor-El's words echoed in his mind.

"If you want to stop Lex, you must use this ice blade to kill him!"

Clark's eyes showed a look of painful struggle, and his hands trembled slightly.

Looking at Lex's slightly mocking face in front of him, he simply couldn't bring himself to do it!

"Look at you, Clark, you're like a defeated dog now! Do it, just like you killed your comrade General Zod, wield the weapon in your hand!"

Lex roared at Clark, "Do it! Kill me!"

"No! Stop!"

"Do it! Don't be a coward! Where's the resolve you had when you killed General Zod? Kill me!"

"Shut up!"

"Now! Put away your hypocritical face! Do it! Clark!"

"Shut up! Shut up!"

Clark roared, raising the dagger in his hand and stabbing it towards Lex's chest.

In a flash, the ice blade shot towards Lex's chest.

Bang!

The anticipated scene of the ice blade piercing Lex's chest did not happen; Clark slammed the ice blade hard into the ground.

"Crack!"

A crisp sound rang out; the ice blade, capable of piercing Lex's skin, shattered into two pieces as Clark plunged it into the ground.

The lower half of the shattered ice blade rolled on the ground.

Lex stared in astonishment at the heavily breathing Clark.

"I have never regretted my actions, including killing General Zod!"

Clark said to Lex, "Alicia once told me: if I can firmly believe I am fighting to protect, then I will be fearless, and unaffected by hesitation or confusion."

"I won't kill you! Even if the ice blade is the only way to stop you, I will still find a way to bring you back to normal!"

Clark said to Lex, breathing slightly heavily.

"You are always too confident! Clark."

Eric's voice came from behind.

Clark turned to see Eric walking towards him.

Eric glanced at Lex lying on the ground and said, "If he were someone you didn't know, and not Lex Luthor, would you still do this?"

"No matter who he is, I would do this!"

Clark looked directly at Eric, his gaze firm as he spoke.

Listening to Clark's firm statement, Eric said nothing more, but walked over to Lex and grabbed him from the ground.

"You seem a little disappointed that Clark didn't kill you?"

Eric asked him.

"Forget it."

Before Lex could answer, Eric threw him heavily back onto the ground.

"You need to undergo some mental and physical treatment, a thorough transformation of you from the inside out!"

"Eric, don't hurt Lex!"

Clark thought Eric was trying to find a way to punish Lex and immediately said to him.

Eric did not answer his elder brother's words, but called Rika and told her to take Lex to the spaceship for treatment.

As for whether he could be cured, and how much torture Lex would suffer during the treatment, Eric didn't care.

After Lex left the Manor and was taken away by Rika, Lana walked towards Eric and Clark, clutching her injured hand.

"Lana!"

Seeing Lana's injured hand, Clark showed a surprised and worried expression, and immediately walked to Lana's side.

"Are you okay?!"

"I'm fine, just a slight injury to my palm."

Lana forced a smile at Clark, her face a little pale.

"Is Lex okay?"

"Lex…"

Clark hesitated and glanced at Eric, "He… he needs to receive treatment, maybe the technology inside the Kryptonian spaceship can restore him to normal."

"That's good."

Lana let out a long sigh. Although he had used a rapier to pierce her palm, Lana bore no great resentment.

She knew that wasn't Lex's intention.

Seeing Lana speak a few words to him and then walk over to Eric's side.

Clark suddenly felt a little heavy-hearted.

But in an instant, his heart felt relieved again.

He had clearly let go long ago, so why did he still care so much?

After a wry smile, Clark left the Manor corridor and walked outside.

He remembered confiding in his mother that Lana had been hot and cold with him for a while.

His mother asked him for the reason, and his answer was: Lana probably felt he was hiding many secrets from her.

"Why hide your secrets from Lana?"

His mother pressed him for an answer.

Before he could reply, his mother said something profound to him: Perhaps, deep down, you've always felt that Lana isn't the kind of girl you can entrust all your secrets to.

Recalling his mother's words, Clark walked out of Luther Manor with a complicated mood.

"Don't you need me to take you to the hospital?"

Eric asked her.

"I think I can hold on, at least until the ambulance arrives."

Lana took a deep breath and walked over to Eric.

Lana, standing at one meter sixty-five, and Eric, nearly one meter ninety, formed a stark contrast in height.

Before Eric could react, Lana hugged Eric tightly.

Even though she hugged Eric, her head only reached Eric's chest.

"Thank you! Eric!"

Lana thanked Eric, "If you hadn't come in time, I'm afraid Lex's plan would have succeeded!"

"No need to thank me!"

Eric looked down at the girl hugging him, "When it comes to saving the world, I've never had any interest!"

"As for running into you, it was just a coincidence."

Lana was already used to Eric's cold words and slowly released her hug from Eric.

She thought Eric would embrace her, but in the end, he did nothing, which left her with a faint sense of disappointment.

"If I could…"

Lana hesitated for a moment, then said to Eric, "I need to attend an event in a week. Would you be willing to come with me?"

"As your boyfriend?"

Eric asked directly, getting straight to the point.

Lana immediately showed a startled expression.

"No, not…"

Lana stammered a little.

Although that was indeed what she was thinking, she would definitely not admit it if it were said directly.

"I'm not interested in being your boyfriend."

Eric turned his face to look at Lana and said, "If I were you, I should be more concerned about my injuries right now."

No sooner had he spoken than an ambulance wailed as it headed towards Luther Manor.

Lana clutched her hand, took a deep breath, and said to Eric, "No matter what, Eric, no matter what choice you make, even if you stand against the world, I will stand by your side."
