Chapter 25 - Strange things—[2]

"Hey? Awake?" Merlin gently nudged her small body but received no response. "I guess not then."

Holding her wobbly shape, he got up from his chair. The night was still far from over.

"It's getting pretty late too….not that i can tell the time though." He lamented the current condition.

This place had neither a clock nor a smartphone. It's a stupid expectation to have but you can't blame such a modern person to not complain about the conditions of a mediaeval world. Yea it's true he's pretty spoiled to ask all that on his second day awake here but—'GET ME WILL YA?!'

"Hahhh…" If comfort is the small price for coming here then, take it all you want. The best thing that life could offer him would be to not see that place again.

He stopped right in front of the bed and looked down at the cute little thing, resting so snugly in his arms.

A light chuckle escaped his lips as he bent forward, to place her on the pillow. Careful not to disrupt her sleep.

But wait—"Does a shadow slime even needs to sleep?"

"Oof," No response. Does that mean that they DO need sleep? 'I doubt that they even have a brain for that need' "You're a tough nut to crack huh?" No worries, I'll just have to ask the next time i see you then, "Hahhhh….why am I sighing this mu–? Argh!"

'WHAT THE!?'

His hand shot up to clutch his head as a sting of pain flashed across his mind. Bright patches of orange light, that by no means should have been there, burned into his vision. He could feel it throbbing painfully, as if his brain had developed a heart of it's own. Banging like a hammer from within his skull.

It hurts so badly!

These kind of sudden episodes of pain were totally normal in his life. From time to time these headaches occured without any sort of warnings.

It would've been ignorable.

It would've been normal.

if it wasn't for the strange things that came along with it. Inexplicable they were. Disturbing and depressing. Excessively so. Whenever he considered the possibility that he wont be return, everytime these feelings…

What are they? What is— 'I'm sorry'

To whom?

'Im sorry you had to,'

Who are you?

'Im sorry you had to, have me.'

What?

'I should have said goodbye'

Why didn't you?

'I should've washed that…mug'

*Drip*

"Huh?" What is that, so hot?

Long and slender fingers traced that part of his cheek. But for some reason, they felt quite wet. A sensation which wad foreign to him.

"T-tears?" He murmured without a breath, confused by the emotion he was displaying. This was exactly what he had wanted to question Stella about.

A faint flicker of some distant thought had clouded his sense of control.

That voice and even those words, weren't something he knew about.

They disturbed him. Even when Priscilla mocked him, and when his plan failed, they plagued his self esteem and mind's ability to think.

It is strange, maybe he should pay more attention to this.

Should he ask Reinhard or Adelheid tommorow? Or maybe Kaito or Satella, they are the ones who know him the best when compared to others in this world. And they are also the ones who he suspects are hiding the most from him too.

"Maybe I really should sleep." Thinking that , he shrugged indifferently. Satisfied with his reasoning.

He then walked to the other side of the bed and got on it. Even a guest's bed here was about as big as a queen sized bed. Not to mention, it's soft as hell too.

Without making a single creak, he slowly laid down. Head just beside tella.

What condition must be met for people to say "Good morning"?

He believed that this greeting was spoken way too much and extremely casually.

Shouldn't a word good be included with something that is actually good? But saying "Good morning" to someone felt very very wrong. Like he was lying to them or just putting up a face in front of the ones he tried to speak only truth to. So, never in his life after 5th grade had Merlin said "Good morning" to anyone.

Even casually.

Of course this excluded the times when he actually had a day to look forward to.

The times when the morning was actually good/worthy of being looked forward to.

But with that another question arises. What makes a morning good? I don't know. How would I know? Right?

It's just basically a giddy feeling that arises the day he wakes with a bright mood, or if the previous day was a pleasant or an uneventful one.

Maybe that's why he felt so eager to say that today.

To Reinhard.

To Felt.

To the twins.

And even to that snarky girl Adel—

"How long are you going to be asleep for?"

"Gah–!"

A voice interrupted his peaceful beauty sleep as Merlin felt his entire body become airborne, but then coming down rapidly and kissing the hard floor face first with a loud thud!

The pain from his nose caused him to let out a small moan of discomfort and looked up at the culprit of this scene. As expected, it was the red delinquent who stood by the side of the bed opposite to the side where Merlin was flinged towards. Looking at her gripping the blanket, he glared at her furiously.

"Morning Adelheid, what a heartwarming wake up call you gave me."

Adelheid only snorted at the comment, not in the least bothered to even try to put up an apologetic front. No wait. Why would someone who just threw their guest off the bed like a sewer rat before even the sun's light had emerged feel the need to act guilty? She did it well knowing what his reaction would be.

"And wait, before that, why the heck are you in my room to begin with?"

With her usual mechanical tone, she replied "I stood out there knocking for over 10 minutes, did you really think i would not be even slightly mad? Wasting so much time, I was wondering whether you'd make a home in your dreams at this point."

"The sun isn't even out yet! Aren't you the one who is too much of a damn bird!?"

"The others are still asleep so please tone your voice down a bit. I don't want their sleep to be interrupted by incoherent screechings."

"You care about their sleep but what about mine?"

"Get ready and come down to the backyard. Make it quick please."

Ignoring the whining Merlin on the ground, she walked out of

the room without looking back once.

"The…backyard?"

Why though?
