Chapter 24 - Chapter 24 : Part :- 1 — The Weight of a Legend

The arena did not erupt into cheers.

It fell into silence.

A silence so profound that even the wind seemed unwilling to disturb it.

The once-pristine Star Pool Arena had become unrecognizable. Deep fractures spread across the celestial marble, broken pillars leaned at dangerous angles, and countless fragments of shattered relics glimmered faintly before dissolving into stardust.

Smoke drifted lazily through the air, carrying the lingering scent of scorched spiritual energy.

At the center of the devastation stood a single young man.

Staryo.

His chest rose and fell in slow, uneven breaths. The indigo radiance within his eyes had dimmed, but faint galaxies still revolved deep within his pupils before gradually fading into darkness.

Then—

A single drop of blood fell onto the broken marble.

Tap.

Another followed.

Tap.

The sound echoed across the silent arena.

Before anyone could react, Staryo's knees buckled.

A blur of silver crossed the battlefield.

Aru caught him before he struck the ground.

"You promised."

Her normally calm voice trembled.

"You promised you'd be careful."

Staryo forced a weak smile despite the pain spreading through every part of his body.

"I... was."

She looked at the blood staining his lips.

"This is your definition of careful?"

"...Apparently."

For a brief moment, she wanted to be angry.

Instead, relief overwhelmed her.

She held him more firmly.

"I'm just glad you're alive."

Staryo looked away, unable to meet her eyes.

"So am I."

No one interrupted them.

Not because they lacked authority.

Because no one understood what they had just witnessed.

The Twelve Princes slowly rose from the shattered battlefield.

Prince Helion was the first.

His golden armor had cracked across the chest, and the divine flame surrounding his sword had almost disappeared.

Yet his attention wasn't on his own injuries.

He stared at Staryo.

"...Why?"

The question echoed through the arena.

"You could have killed us."

Every prince looked toward Staryo.

Each carried the same question.

Staryo remained silent for several moments before answering.

"If killing you had solved anything..."

"...I would have."

The atmosphere instantly changed.

"But it wouldn't."

He slowly looked at each prince in turn.

"You're not my enemies."

"You're the future of your kingdoms."

"If the future destroys itself today..."

"...who will protect tomorrow?"

No one spoke.

Prince Helion lowered his sword first.

Not in surrender.

In respect.

Across the battlefield, however, not every prince shared his thoughts.

Prince Raizen of the Thunder Kingdom clenched his fists until blood ran between his fingers.

"I'll surpass you."

His voice carried neither hatred nor admiration.

Only determination.

"I don't accept this defeat."

Nearby, Princess Lyra of the Moon Kingdom—who had served as an observer rather than a combatant—watched Staryo with quiet curiosity.

"That wasn't ordinary cultivation..."

She whispered the words almost to herself.

"What exactly are you...?"

Meanwhile, Prince Varek of the Iron Kingdom remained expressionless.

His sharp eyes missed nothing.

He had noticed something the others hadn't.

Every time Staryo had used the mysterious time technique...

His body had weakened.

His breathing had become heavier.

His hands had trembled ever so slightly.

"That power has a price," Varek thought.

"A terrifying one."

He said nothing.

Some truths were more valuable when kept secret.

High above the arena, the instructors remained motionless.

The Grand Instructor slowly closed his eyes.

"Seal the arena."

Every elder looked toward him.

"The Star Pool must remain inaccessible until we determine what happened today."

Several instructors nodded immediately.

Others looked uneasy.

One elderly professor adjusted his spectacles.

"The Star Pool has awakened thousands of cultivators over countless generations."

He paused.

"Never..."

"...has it answered someone in return."

Those words settled heavily over the observation platform.

The academy physicians rushed onto the battlefield.

Their leader, Master Healer Selene, knelt beside Staryo and gently placed two fingers against his wrist.

A pulse of emerald healing energy flowed into his body.

The glow lasted less than two seconds.

Then—

It vanished.

Selene frowned.

She increased the flow of spiritual energy.

Again...

Nothing.

Confusion crossed her face.

She closed her eyes and examined his spiritual pathways more carefully.

A heartbeat later—

Her expression froze.

"This..."

She whispered so quietly that only the Grand Instructor heard.

"This isn't possible."

"What did you find?" he asked.

Selene slowly withdrew her hand.

"My healing energy isn't repairing his body."

She looked at Staryo as though seeing something impossible.

"...His body is repairing itself."

She hesitated.

"No..."

"...that's not the right word."

Every nearby instructor instinctively leaned closer.

Selene's voice became barely audible.

"It's..."

"...reconstructing itself."

The Grand Instructor's eyes narrowed.

He had never encountered such a phenomenon in his centuries of teaching.

Far above them, hidden behind drifting clouds, something unseen stirred.

Far away...

Someone smiled.

And somewhere beyond the borders of the Twelve Kingdoms...

The first move in a much older game had already begun.
