5:00 PM — Service Club Room, Sobu High School,
The clock on the wall quietly ticked toward five in the afternoon.
Golden sunlight streamed through the Service Club's windows, dyeing the room in a warm amber glow.
Most students had gone home.
Sports clubs were still training outside, they were very passionate.
Occasionally, the distant sound of whistles and baseball bats echoed through the campus.
Inside the Service Club room, however, everything was peaceful.
Gojo Satoru stretched lazily, his joints popped one after another after a good sleep,
"Ahhhh...What a tiring day."
Yukino Yukinoshita glanced up from her book.
"Tiring?" Her tone was doubtful. "The person who spent half the day teasing students or sleeping is saying that?"
Gojo immediately replied. "Yukino, I work very hard too, you know."
"You call that work?"
"Of course. I was educating the youth of Japan."
"You were bullying Hikigaya and Yuigahama."
"That's also education."
"..."
Yukino decided not to continue. Arguing with Gojo Satoru was equivalent to arguing with a thick wall.
No.
Actually worse.
A wall at least remained quiet, while you will also have to endure the barrage of sound attack from him.
Gojo stood up and stretched again.
"Well then. I'm heading home." He picked up his phone and stuffed it into his pocket. Then he looked toward Yukino. "See you tomorrow, little Yukino."
The corners of Yukino's mouth twitched. She ignored the nickname...For now.
"..."
A faint hesitation appeared on her face. She lowered her eyes toward the book in her hands.
Truthfully speaking...She wanted to visit Gojo's house.
Not because of Gojo.
Absolutely not because of him.
The reason was simple.
Vanilla — The adorable cat that had occupied a considerable amount of her thoughts lately.
Ever since meeting Vanilla, Yukino had discovered a dangerous truth.
She was hopelessly weak against cats!
Especially fluffy cats or more specifically Vanilla.
Several days had already passed since she last saw her.
As a result...her hands were itchy.
She wanted to pet Vanilla, place her on her lap and watch her sleep.
Unfortunately, asking directly felt slightly embarrassing.
Snap!
Just as Yukino was trying to figure out how to phrase it—Gojo suddenly snapped his fingers disturbing her thought.
His face lit up.
"I see!"
Yukino blinked, as she stare at him.
"...?"
Gojo pointed dramatically.
"You don't have anything to eat at house!"
Yukino froze.
"What?"
Gojo nodded wisely. "So you want to come to my house for dinner!"
"..."
Yukino stared at him with an unknown expression, she sometime genuinely wondered if this man's brain had suffered some permanent damage in an accident.
What kind of conclusion was that?
How did he arrive there?
Was there even a road connecting those thoughts?
After taking a deep breath, Yukino calmly placed her book on the table.
"Scumbag teacher."
"Yes?"
"Even if I wanted to visit your house. It would be because of Vanilla." She finally said it. "Not because my house has no food. Even if there is no gas, I won't come to your house to eat at the convenience store!"
Gojo immediately looked disappointed.
"Tch. My deduction failed."
"There was never any deduction."
"There was."
"There wasn't."
The two stared at each other.
Eventually Gojo surrendered,
"Fine. You can come. You can come if you want, but I have to go to the supermarket to buy some ingredients first, because there is no food at home."
"...", Yukino stare at him before returned her attention to the book in hand, "Go ahead. I'll come later."
The Service Club officially ended at six o'clock.
Even if nobody submitted requests or even if no one is present. As club president, Yukino still intended to stay until the proper closing time.
Gojo waved casually.
"Alright."
"See you later."
Then—
Whoosh!
He sprinted out of the room like a rocket.
SLAM!
With the door closed behind him.
Silence returned.
Yukino calmly turned a page.
Not even slightly surprised at it.
....
Outside Sobu High School,
A few minutes later.
Gojo exited the school gates.
The evening breeze gently blew through his white hair.
Students passed by in groups. Some were finally heading home after finishing their club activities.
Others were stopping by cafes or arcades before returning.
Meanwhile, Gojo's destination was simple.
The supermarket.
....
Inside the Supermarket — Five-fifteen P.M.,
Gojo entered the nearest large supermarket.
The automatic doors slid open for the customer as the cool blast of air greeted him.
"Hm."
He grabbed a shopping cart from nearly, the wheels squeaked slightly on the floor as he wandered inside.
"What should I make tonight?"
"Sukiyaki? Chinese food? or should I do Dessert only?"
The struggle of deciding dinner immediately began.
Gojo Satoru's greatest enemy wasn't curses, evil spirits or anything.
It was choice paralysis.
Passing through the fresh food section, he casually grabbed:
Five packs of salmon.
Five packs of octopus.
Several packs of premium meat.
A mountain of snacks.
And enough sweets to concern a nutritionist!
"Perfect."
His cart was already half full, when he remembered something.
"Oh. Napkins."
All the napkins in home was already used up so their is a need to buy them too.
Turning his cart around, he headed toward the daily necessities section.
Since it was only a little after five, the supermarket wasn't very crowded.
The evening discount rush hadn't begun yet.
Only a few customers wandered between shelves.
Everything was peaceful.
Until—
Thud-Thud-Thud!
Gojo stopped before turning his head to the direction from where the sound was coming.
Several meters ahead stood a silver-haired young woman. She repeatedly jumped toward a shelf.
Unfortunately...The shelf was winning.
The napkin package she wanted sat stubbornly out of reach.
The silver-haired woman jumped again.
And failed again.
Then again.
Gojo watched silently.
"..."
Gojo Satoru, who happened to be buying napkins, walked over pushing the cart watching the scene that was strangely entertaining. As he got closer he heard the woman muttering to herself.
"So annoying...Why is it so high? Are they trying to stop people from buying it?"
The woman appeared to be around high school age with Long silver-white hair, a braid resting over one shoulder.
Grab!
Gojo Satoru, raised his right hand and easily got the napkin, which was falling fue to her another failed jump.
The woman froze, her eyes sparkled as she turned around.
"Oh! Thank goodness! Thank you, sir—"
Before she could finish—Gojo calmly dropped the napkin package into his own cart.
The woman froze, looking at Gojo with a stunned expression.
"..."
A dangerous silence descended which Gojo pretended not to notice.
The woman's smile became stiff. Very stiff.
If smiles had health bars, hers was at one HP.
Meanwhile, deep inside her heart—A storm erupted.
Who is this guy!? Give it back! Why would you do that!?
I was thanking you!
You're a villain!
A complete villain!
I'm going to remember you guy's face and draw it into my illustration! Go to hell, you Villain!
Gojo finally looked at her, "Hm? What were you saying?"
The woman forced a smile. "Nothing."
Absolutely nothing.
At this moment she was mentally adding him to a blacklist.
Then Gojo suddenly sighed.
"Actually. There was something I wanted to say."
The woman narrowed her eyes.
"What?"
Gojo spoke seriously.
"Ma'am. You wouldn't want to lose your napkins, do you?"
"..."
The woman blinked.
That line sounded suspiciously familiar.
Wait. Wasn't that—
Her eyes twitched violently, as she glared at Gojo with her light blue eyes, she was already thinking about finding a staff member.
Just then—
Plop!
A fresh package of napkins landed in her shopping basket.
The woman blinked. "Ehh?"
Gojo waved casually. "Just kidding. See you~"
Then he pushed his cart away.
The woman remained standing there.
For several seconds.
Finally—she tsk softly.
What a strange man.
"A weird person..."
She looked at the napkins.
Then at his departing figure.
"Hmph! I won't draw you anymore. Be grateful!"
Meanwhile, completely unaware that he had narrowly escaped becoming material—
Gojo continued shopping.
His cart grew fuller and fuller. Everything necessary for a perfect meal was already in the cart, he looked down at the overflowing cart and nodded proudly.
"Excellent. Sukiyaki wins."
Truthfully speaking...He preferred hot pot the most.
But—since, he had already eaten hot pot with Chihiro and the others at lunch.
Eating hot pot twice in one day felt excessive.
Even for him.
So tonight...Sukiyaki it was.
And somewhere in the back of his mind—He remembered that Yukino would be visiting later.
Which meant Vanilla would probably receive too much attention tonight.
