They retraced their steps, only a little over thirty people, not even half of what they had when they arrived.
But this was already the best outcome they had envisioned; at least they accomplished their goal and some lived to return.
Away from the church, the surroundings grew quiet, and there seemed to be no pursuers.
Yet before they had run far, they heard another wolf howl.
"Another werewolf!" Angisun said with a frown, "That werewolf is running in our direction. Does it know where we are because of the scent?"
This is strange.
They had passed by two werewolves earlier without being discovered, but now it seemed like these werewolves had locked onto them, rushing in one after the other.
Adis pondered for a moment and said, "Perhaps someone is controlling them from behind, directing their actions, otherwise these frenzied werewolves wouldn't only target us."
"I think the person behind it might be Valian."
