Chapter 389 - Chapter 389 A Quiet Day

The two men sat on the hood of the car, chatting for a long time. After Carl finished recounting his experiences, he looked at Johnny.

"And you?"

To be honest, having not seen Johnny for almost a year, he didn't know how Johnny was doing. But judging by his current state, he seemed to be doing alright; the clothes he was wearing were certainly not cheap.

"Me?"

At Carl's question, Johnny's thoughts instantly drifted back to ten months ago.

He had just arrived in this world, taken over the original owner's unlucky position, and experienced a series of events.

Johnny's lips curved into a smile, "At least I'm doing much better than before. I gained a master, received training, and became a professional assassin. For now, things are pretty good, though there are occasional dangers."

Johnny didn't go into as much detail about his experiences as Carl did, summarizing nearly a year of life in a single sentence.

But Carl, standing beside him, could sense the dangers Johnny had experienced this past year. He patted Johnny's shoulder.

"I understand."

Johnny just smiled, saying nothing.

"Oh, right, you've become an assassin, so you must have a code name, right?" Carl suddenly asked, as if remembering something.

"Yes, my code name is Night Owl."

Johnny told Carl his code name.

Carl immediately pulled out his phone and opened an app.

Johnny:?

"Aren't you a police officer? How do you have something like this?"

Carl's actions completely bewildered Johnny.

"Although I'm a police officer, I also need sources of intelligence, and this is one of them."

Carl shook his phone and began to search.

When all the information about Night Owl appeared on his phone screen, he looked at Johnny in disbelief.

"Shit! I'm mistaken, am I?"

The messages that popped up on the phone left Carl utterly dumbfounded. This was no ordinary assassin; he had already joined the ranks of high-level assassins.

"In less than a year, you've become such a fierce man? Holy shit! That's so manly!"

Carl immediately stuffed his phone into his pocket, turned, and scrutinized Johnny.

"It's crazy! I thought my experiences were already outrageous, but I didn't expect yours to be even more so!"

As a police officer, he knew all too well what the information on the screen meant. It wasn't just about the number of missions, but also the honorable mention of being the fourth-ranked team in the global assassin organization.

He had watched that live broadcast from beginning to end, even taking time off work for it.

He never imagined that the formidable person in it was his seemingly inconspicuous friend.

"Damn it, how on earth did you do it?"

He hadn't even looked at the other messages, but this one alone had already shattered his worldview.

One must know that the old Johnny wasn't much different from a wimp, but now he seemed completely transformed, as if he were a different person.

He pulled Johnny aside and talked for a long time. Johnny, growing impatient, could only offer a brief explanation, which made Carl jump up and down in shock.

"Oh my god! I actually have a high-level assassin friend! This truly sounds incredible."

After being shocked for a good while, Carl finally returned to normal. The two chatted for a while longer, then bid each other farewell.

Back home, Johnny took a hot shower and then lay gently on the bed.

He probably really needed to rest well this period; with his body in such a state, taking on missions would be very difficult.

Just like that, Johnny slowly drifted into dreamland.

Meanwhile, Carl was still excited. On his way back in the police car, he saw a very familiar figure, so he rolled down the window.

"Frank?"

The man who heard Carl's voice also turned his head, and Carl was instantly speechless.

"Damn it! What are you doing wandering the streets in the middle of the night?"

Seeing that it was his beloved son, Frank immediately opened the car door and got into the police car.

"Just finished my homework, came out for a stroll," Frank explained casually, but Carl rolled his eyes.

"Come on. Can't you be a little more normal?"

Carl was speechless with his father, but Frank didn't care. "I've lived to this age, what does it matter if I'm normal or not? Might as well enjoy myself."

Facing Frank's declaration, Carl indicated that as long as he was happy, he would drive the police car towards his own home.

The next day, when Johnny woke from his dream, his chest was still throbbing. He struggled to get up and wash, then sat in the living room, "This is truly a rare moment of leisure."

Johnny brewed himself a pot of tea and slowly drank it in the living room.

Suddenly going from a busy life to a somewhat calm one, Johnny even felt a bit bored, but his physical limitations prevented him from seeking more exciting things.

Just like that, Johnny sat in the living room all morning. Although his hands weren't idle, constantly scrolling through various apps to fill his boring morning.

This continued for several days. One day, Johnny was taking a nap when his phone rang.

"Yo, little brother~ Long time no talk~"

Listening to Veronica's cloying voice from the receiver, Johnny still couldn't help but feel annoyed.

"Stop! That's enough, don't say another word."

Johnny took a deep breath, then said, "Speak. What do you need me for?"

"Oh, the famous Night Owl, are you starting to put on airs with me too?" Veronica said, feigning surprise.

"Shut up, you. Get to the point, or I'm hanging up!"

Johnny wasn't going to tolerate her bad habits.

"Oh, really, you're so unromantic. And here I was, hoping to deepen our bond."

Veronica said with a giggle.

"I don't believe our intelligence queen would be so kind as to call just to deepen our bond."

Johnny's tone was calm, completely unaffected by Veronica.

"Alright, fine, this is so boring. I called to tell you some news: Serena found Oriska."

Veronica's voice returned to normal, and she delivered the news to Johnny.

"Serena? She actually found Oriska?"

Hearing Veronica's words, Johnny was also stunned. He had not forgotten Oriska; after Oriska had toyed with him so much during the castle mission, how could he possibly let him go?

Especially the previous live game, he remembered it clearly.

"Where is he?" Johnny asked directly.

"In Europe, of course, but you'll have to contact Serena separately for the exact location. I'll send her information to your phone in a moment."

After saying this, Veronica hung up the phone.

Johnny stared at his phone in a daze for a while, until a notification sound rang.

He didn't expect Serena to actually find out Oriska's true identity.

Opening the message and logging into his email to take a look, Johnny silently deleted the email.

Then, he dialed a number.
