Chapter 229: Giving Everything
"Go!"
With a shout, the Evil God King sent his strike forth.
The black divine sword he had conjured shot toward the Douluo Continent, its edge aimed directly at the Star Dou Forest. The surrounding space twisted and collapsed as it tore through the divine void.
The sword carried unstoppable, murderous intent — a blade meant to annihilate all.
In the heart of the Star Dou Forest, Brigitte was discussing the intricacies of cultivation and breakthrough with the other fierce beasts.
But suddenly—
"Hmm?"
She stiffened. A terrifying killing intent locked onto her, freezing the air around her like a vise.
Her unease deepened as she lifted her gaze skyward, her spiritual sense detecting what ordinary eyes could never perceive — a massive, pitch-black sword descending from high above.
When her consciousness barely brushed its aura, violent pain surged through her mind. The killing intent was devouring, nearly enough to tear her soul asunder.
"No… the God Realm has discovered me."
Her expression turned grave. This aura belonged to one of the pinnacle beings — only the God Realm could release such divine pressure.
"What?"
"What should we do? The master is still in seclusion!"
Panic rippled among the group. They instantly realized why — the Star Auction Pavilion had claimed that godhood gained within the Divine Stone would go undetected by the Divine Realm. But now that Brigitte had appeared on the Douluo Continent as a true god, her existence could no longer be hidden.
"The master should've given us another Barrier Talisman…" Di Tian muttered through clenched teeth, dread sinking into his chest.
"Take the others and withdraw immediately," Brigitte commanded firmly. "I'll protect the master. None of that divine force can be allowed to reach her."
As she spoke, a vast green barrier unfurled from her body, spreading outward to cover the area in a shimmering dome of light.
"No! If that really is one of the God Kings, not even you can withstand their strike," Di Tian protested, his voice hoarse. "Let me handle this. Even if I have to destroy myself, I'll buy enough time for you and the master to survive. That's our only chance for the soul beasts' future!"
His eyes glowed with fierce determination. Soul beasts had suffered under the eyes of the gods for countless years, unable to break past their limits. Brigitte's success was their first light of hope — he would not let anything extinguish it.
"Even I can't block this alone," Brigitte said softly but resolutely. "Go. When the Star Auction Pavilion next reveals such treasures, it will be your turn to seize that chance."
With a wave of her hand, green light surrounded Di Tian and the others — and in an instant, they were transported far beyond the forest's boundary.
She turned her full focus to the sky, drawing every ounce of her life energy into her shield of divine vitality.
It was her most powerful defense, one that could absorb enemy power and convert it into protection — yet even she doubted it could match the divine might bearing down from above.
A piercing hum filled the heavens as the enormous black sword finally arrived, hanging over the Star Dou Forest like a mountain of death.
An oppressive wave of evil energy blanketed the land.
The moment its aura swept outward, countless lesser soul beasts collapsed and disintegrated, their bodies turning to ash beneath the sheer pressure.
"Damn it, that's the aura of the Evil God King!"
Di Tian's voice shook with fury and disbelief. So it truly was one of the Five God Kings.
To strike at them so shamelessly — how despicable!
"Quickly! Defend the forest! Protect the others!" Di Tian barked orders to the remaining war beasts. "The main strike is aimed at Brigitte, but even the residual energy could wipe out ten-thousand-year beasts in an instant!"
"Understood!"
The Bear Lord, Ten Thousand Demon King, and others split off in different directions, overwhelming soul power erupting from their bodies as they raised vast protective domes to shield the weaker beasts.
Meanwhile, Di Tian shot forward toward Brigitte's position, unwilling to stand idle.
"Boom!"
The divine sword struck.
Its power smashed brutally against Brigitte's life barrier, sending a thunderous shockwave through the forest.
The immense force drove her into the ground, fissures splintering outward from her feet as her body trembled violently.
Her jaw tightened as she poured all her remaining divine power into sustaining the barrier, absorbing what she could of the overwhelming destructive energy.
She had to protect her master, no matter the cost.
Barely a few seconds passed before cracks began to web across the surface of the green shelter.
"This… this is the power of a God King?"
Even after fully unleashing the might of a million-year beast, she could hardly withstand it. The realization filled her with awe — and despair.
High above, within the radiant halls of the God Realm, the Evil God King observed her struggle through the divine mirror, a sneer curving his lips.
"An insect trying to stop a storm."
With a flick of his hand, he channeled even greater force into the descending sword.
"Boom!"
The impact shattered Brigitte's barrier in an instant, sending her reeling back tens of meters.
Blood welled in her throat as she stared upward at the dark sword plummeting toward her once more.
"No..."
Her heart pounded wildly. She clenched her teeth. Even if it meant her death, she would not let that divine weapon strike the forest.
If it fell, the Star Dou Forest would be obliterated — every beast under her care would die.
Even her master, still healing in the depths of the Lake of Life, might be destroyed.
Brigitte's emerald divine ring flared behind her, her life energy rapidly converging into one final surge.
"Buzz…"
Just as she prepared to sacrifice everything in defense, time itself seemed to freeze.
Space warped — and an overwhelming eight-colored light filled the sky.
The force enveloped Brigitte, instantly teleporting her out of harm's way.
A colossal silver dragon claw appeared above the forest, wrapped in radiant light of eight hues.
It descended, colliding head-on with the falling black sword.
The heavens quaked. For a breathless moment, the world fell silent.
When the two attacks met, their combined power ruptured space itself — yet the silver claw simply tightened its grip.
With a muffled roar, the destructive aura vanished, consumed into nothingness.
