The new stockade at Millford had gone up in green timber and had spent two months learning what winter thought of that, and from the air it read as a gray ring with a pale scar down one side where forty meters of it had been replaced by people who had not been able to match the color.
North of it, outside the wall, the ground had been marked out in rows.
Raven counted them on the way down, which she had not intended to do and could not stop doing, and the number came out at a little over two hundred, and she made herself stop before she got it exact, because getting it exact would have been a thing she did for herself and called respect.
Thorne came down beside her and said nothing about the rows.
