Chapter 57 - Parent Teacher Meeting 3

The screen shifted again.

MATHEMATICS.

A collective sigh of relief.

Equations filled the display.

Calculus. Probability. Matrix transformations. Multi-variable optimization.

Outside of Y Academy?

Absolute nightmare fuel.

Inside?

This was Tuesday.

Markers moved almost instantly.

Five seconds.

Ten.

Hands started going up in waves.

"I have the answer."

"Finished."

"Done."

The timing differences were measured in seconds.

If an outsider walked in right now, they'd think this was a national competition team.

But this was Y Academy.

Kyoto's pride.

One of Japan's academic apex institutions.

And yes — in an Asian school like this?

Math wasn't the final boss.

It was the warm-up.

Even Nate finished quickly, though this time he glanced sideways at Ranto.

The Student Council President finished without expression.

Emma too.

Umaru leaned back smugly.

Araragi stared at the sea of raised hands.

"…Disappointingly efficient," he muttered.

Then the screen changed again.

The header this time made several students stiffen.

PHYSICAL ASSESSMENT

Murmurs rose.

Araragi clapped once.

"Students will now proceed to the athletic floor."

The gym floor shifted.

Panels retracted.

Measurement tracks extended.

Spiritual suppressors activated subtly along the walls.

Araragi's eye glinted.

"Male and female students will be evaluated separately."

Instant reactions.

Kurumu groaned. "Why separate?!"

Mizore shrugged. "Standardized metrics."

Hailey cracked her knuckles. "I refuse to lose to anyone."

Kunou's ears twitched under her illusion. "Is this speed or strength?"

Araragi continued calmly.

"No overt supernatural abilities."

That line made several students freeze.

"Physical baseline only. Natural body conditioning."

Now that was interesting.

No aura boosts.

No transformations.

No bloodline hacks.

Just raw physicality.

Up in the stands, the parents leaned forward slightly.

Because this wasn't about grades anymore.

This was about discipline.

Control.

Restraint.

Nate exhaled slowly.

"…Well. This just got fun."

Basara smirked. "Try not to embarrass yourself."

Nate glanced at him. "Same."

Across the floor, Ranto adjusted his sleeve slightly.

The watch on his wrist gave a faint pulse.

Nate saw it again.

This wasn't random.

This entire assessment felt… layered.

As the boys were directed to one side and the girls to the other—

Hailey looked back at Nate.

"Don't lose."

He gave her a small grin.

"Don't break the floor."

Across the arena—

Emma stood quietly in the girls' section.

Enma watched.

Yasaka watched.

Lily and Aaron watched.

Araragi raised his hand.

"First event."

The digital board lit up.

100-Meter Dash.

And suddenly—

This Parent–Teacher Meeting stopped feeling academic.

It felt competitive.

The boys lined up along the starting track.

White lines stretched across the polished gym floor, enchanted sensors glowing faintly along the edges to record speed, stride, and finishing time.

The digital board overhead read:

EVENT 1 — 100 METER DASH

Araragi stood off to the side, hands in his pockets, looking like he barely cared.

But his eye was watching everything.

Nate rolled his shoulders once, loosening up.

Next to him stood Basara.

Nate glanced sideways.

"So," Nate said casually, "who do you think is faster between us?"

Basara Toujou smirked.

"We'll see."

Two lanes down, someone cracked their neck.

Three lanes over, another student stretched nervously.

The starting line filled.

Then—

Nate noticed something.

A new student stepped into the empty lane beside Basara.

Black hair.

Calm expression.

Student council armband.

Ranto Kirigakure.

Nate's eyes flicked down automatically.

The watch again.

That strange device on his wrist glowed faintly before dimming.

'So he's running too…'

Araragi raised one hand.

"Positions."

Everyone crouched.

Muscles tightened.

Silence fell across the massive gym.

Up in the stands, supernatural parents leaned forward.

Yasaka's eyes narrowed slightly.

Lily folded her arms.

Enma watched with the detached gaze of a judge observing a trial.

Kunou whispered from the girls' section.

"That's Nate's brother's lane…"

Hailey crossed her arms.

"Come on Nate."

Mizore simply stared at the track.

Araragi spoke flatly.

"Ready."

Everyone tensed.

"Set."

A beat.

Then—

BANG.

The starting signal cracked through the gym.

And the runners exploded forward.

Basara launched like a cannon.

Nate matched him step for step instantly.

Their feet hammered the floor.

10 meters.

20 meters.

They were already leaving the rest of the students behind.

"Holy—!" someone shouted from the sidelines.

But then—

A third runner surged forward.

Ranto.

Smooth.

Silent.

Efficient.

No wasted motion.

His stride lengthened and suddenly—

He caught up.

Nate's eyes widened slightly mid-run.

He's fast.

Basara noticed too.

"Tch."

Now the race wasn't two people.

It was three.

30 meters.

40 meters.

Nate pushed harder.

Basara matched.

Ranto stayed perfectly level.

From the stands—

Aaron chuckled.

"Well well."

Lily tilted her head slightly.

"Interesting."

Yasaka's tail flicked behind her illusion.

Enma's eyes narrowed.

60 meters.

The air pressure from their speed started kicking up dust across the track.

Students were staring now.

Some had stopped breathing.

Because this wasn't normal "high school fast."

This was elite athlete fast.

But still within human limits.

Barely.

70 meters.

Nate leaned forward.

Basara grinned like a battle was starting.

Ranto's expression stayed calm.

80 meters.

The three were still neck and neck.

Araragi's eyebrow raised slightly.

Oh.

90 meters.

The finish line rushed toward them.

The entire gym held its breath.

Three blurs shot forward—

And crossed the line almost at the same moment.

The sensors flashed.

A moment of silence.

Then the scoreboard flickered.

Times calculating.

Everyone stared.

Because somehow—

The Student Council President had just entered the same league as two monsters.

And Nate was now absolutely certain.

That watch wasn't just decoration.

Once the boys finished, the track reset.

The board changed.

EVENT 1 — GIRLS 100 METER DASH

Araragi lazily waved a hand.

"Next."

The girls stepped forward to the starting lanes.

Kunou bounced lightly on her toes.

Hailey rolled her shoulders like she was about to start a fight instead of a race.

Fumika adjusted her stance with practiced calm.

Moka stood quietly between them, looking almost timid.

From the stands, several parents leaned forward again.

"Ready."

"Set."

BANG.

The girls launched forward.

Kunou exploded off the line with surprising ferocity.

Hailey kept pace easily.

Fumika's stride was long and controlled.

Then—

Moka surged forward with them.

Kunou's eyes widened mid-run.

"The shy vampire is fast?!"

Hailey glanced sideways.

"Oh she's fast fast."

Moka kept running, cheeks slightly red but stride steady.

In the sidelines, Koyomi Araragi almost smirked.

Further back—

Mio Naruse sprinted hard, trying to catch the front group.

"The hell are they?!" she shouted between breaths.

Two figures pulled up beside her.

Kurumu flashed a grin.

"People who trained their whole lives."

Mizore ran silently beside them like a cold wind.

Kurumu pushed ahead slightly.

Mio's eyes widened.

"Hey! Don't leave me behind!"

Meanwhile—

Emma ran a few lanes back.

Her stride was smooth.

Controlled.

Deliberately slower.

'They are fast.'

She could keep up.

Easily.

But attention was the last thing she wanted today.

Not with him in the stands.

Not with supernatural eyes everywhere.

So she held back.

Way behind them—

The "normal" girls were having a very different experience.

Hitori Gotoh collapsed to her knees around the 40-meter mark.

"Why… are my friends like this…?"

Her lungs burned.

Her soul left her body.

Nearby, Umaru Doma had already slowed to a stop at about 60 meters.

She placed her hands on her hips and sighed dramatically.

"Well… I was never the physical type."

Then—

A blur passed them.

Fast.

Very fast.

Both girls blinked.

The runner shot past the mid-pack group like a blade cutting through air.

Long straight purple hair streamed behind her.

Perfect posture.

Clean, efficient strides.

No wasted movement.

No strain.

Just pure, practiced athletic precision.

[Insert image of Saeko Busujima]

She surged past Mio.

Past Kurumu.

Past Mizore.

Even closing the gap on the lead group.

Students gasped.

Bocchi wheezed on the ground and watched her pass.

"Was… was that our Kendo Club President…?"

Umaru stared after her, impressed.

"Busujima-senpai."

She crossed her arms with a thoughtful look.

"Third year of Y Academy."

Saeko Busujima cut through the track like a sword stroke.

Up in the stands—

Several supernatural observers reacted immediately.

Yasaka's eyes narrowed slightly.

Lily tilted her head.

Even Enma looked interested.

Because that speed…

Wasn't supernatural.

But it was trained.

And terrifyingly efficient.

Down on the field—

The finish line rushed closer.

The leading pack tightened.

Kunou.

Hailey.

Fumika.

Moka.

And now—

Saeko Busujima closing in.

And Araragi watched quietly.

Because this little "school fitness test" was starting to reveal something very interesting about Y Academy's students.

Nate watched the race carefully.

Not just the speed.

The movement.

His eyes followed the purple-haired girl slicing through the track.

'That posture.'

Her shoulders stayed relaxed.

Her center of gravity stayed perfectly balanced.

Her stride length was consistent.

Like someone who understood body mechanics deeply.

Nate imagined a sword in his own hand.

Then pictured her holding one.

'It's like mine.'

A fighter's stance.

The way the hips aligned.

The way the feet landed.

That wasn't just athletic training.

That was combat discipline.

'Did she train her whole life to fight the supernatural as well?'

The thought lingered.

Because in a place like this school… it wouldn't even be surprising.

Then—

Kunou suddenly jumped.

Literally.

The fox girl launched herself the last meter like a pouncing animal.

She crossed the finish line first.

Students blinked.

"…Did she just jump?"

Kunou landed and threw both arms up proudly.

"I WIN!"

A second later—

Saeko Busujima crossed the line.

Second place.

Her breathing steady.

Her expression calm.

She simply gave Kunou a respectful nod.

Behind them came the rest of the front runners.

Moka Akashiya

Hailey.

Fumika.

Mizore Shirayuki

Kurumu Kurono

They slowed to a stop.

And something interesting happened.

Most of Nate's girls looked…

Disappointed.

Kurumu crossed her arms.

Mizore stared at the ground slightly.

Hailey frowned.

Fumika sighed.

Only Moka looked confused, tilting her head slightly.

"Did… we do badly?"

From the boys' side, Basara Toujou watched them.

He raised an eyebrow.

"…Why do they look disappointed? They were fast."

Nate leaned slightly closer and whispered.

"I made a joke earlier."

Basara glanced at him.

Nate continued quietly.

"That if there was a 100-meter dash today…"

He pointed subtly toward the finish line.

"…whichever girl came first gets a kiss from me."

Basara blinked once.

Then slowly looked back at the girls.

Kunou was celebrating loudly.

The others were still processing their loss.

Basara looked back at Nate.

"…You're an idiot."

Nate shrugged.

"Probably."

Meanwhile—

Kunou ran straight toward Nate at full speed.

Arms wide.

"NATE I WON!"

Nate's eyes widened.

'Oh no.'

He immediately started waving his hands frantically.

"KUNOU— NOT HERE— NOT IN PUBLIC—!"

Too late.

Kunou jumped.

And attached herself to him mid-air.

What happened next—

Well.

Dear reader.

Your imagination is probably correct.

Let's just say several things happened at once:

• Nate lost his balance.

• Kunou did not miss.

• Multiple students screamed.

• Hailey dropped her water bottle.

• Kurumu froze mid-step.

• Mizore blinked once slowly.

• Basara immediately looked away like he wanted no part of this situation.

From the girls' side—

Kurumu covered her mouth.

"…She actually did it."

Hailey pointed in disbelief.

"IN FRONT OF EVERYONE?!"

Mio's brain short-circuited.

"The fox girl just speedran the reward?!"

Meanwhile Kunou landed back on her feet proudly.

Tail wagging under her illusion.

"Victory reward claimed!"

Nate stood there.

Frozen.

Face completely red.

'…I should not have made that joke.'

Up in the stands—

Yasaka quietly covered her face with one hand.

Lily tried very hard not to laugh.

Aaron outright chuckled.

Even Enma's eyebrow twitched slightly.

Off to the side, Koyomi Araragi muttered flatly,

"…Youth."

Eventually the chaos settled.

Students were herded back into organized groups.

The athletic tests ended.

The digital boards shut down.

And the Parent–Teacher Meeting moved to its next stage.

Teachers began speaking with parents individually.

Grades.

Performance.

Behavior.

Future expectations.

Small discussion tables were set up around the gym.

Parents approached their children's instructors one by one.

Kunou was still clinging to Nate's arm proudly.

Kurumu sulked.

Mizore stared at Kunou with quiet frost energy.

Hailey cracked her knuckles.

"Next time we're racing again."

Moka tilted her head.

"…Was that really the reward?"

Nate sighed.

'This day isn't even close to over.'

Across the gym—

Another situation was about to begin.

Because several very powerful parents were now walking toward the teacher tables.

And one particular table had a teacher with messy black hair…

Who looked completely unbothered by the fact that the Fox Queen of Kyoto, the Judge of the Underworld, and multiple high-tier supernatural figures were about to sit down in front of him.

Araragi adjusted his posture slightly.

"…This should be interesting."
