Chapter 138 - The Demon

"As you must know, we have handled numerous cases of paranormal activities, so we have our own vault of such objects. During one of our business trips, our babysitter accidentally released a dark entity."

"My daughter tried to contact him, but since the church has remained closed for a long time, she couldn't get any kind of help."

Jonathan understood what was happening; rather, he already knew what was being talked about. In the Warrens' story, at some point they decided to leave their daughter with a babysitter who had personal issues.

This babysitter, for some reason, invited her friend Daniela, who arrived at the house obsessed with contacting her deceased father and, disobeying the warnings, entered the room of cursed artifacts. There, out of curiosity and desperation, she opened Annabelle's case and released her demonic influence.

As soon as Annabelle became "active," she woke up and freed several spirits and entities from the room, among them:

The Ferryman, The Bride, The Phantom Werewolf, The Samurai, and other cursed objects.

During the night, the house turned into chaos as the entities tormented Judy, Mary Ellen, and Daniela, each being attacked in a different way.

The most dangerous presence was the demon that controls Annabelle, which tried at all costs to possess Judy, taking advantage of the fact that she was sensitive to the paranormal like her parents.

"Is there any supernatural activity happening in your home right now?" Jonathan asked, who from another phone contacted Father Doug so he could activate an emergency protocol he had established.

"No, well, not entirely, but Daniela apparently was possessed and is currently in a coma. My daughter was the one most tormented, but she managed to avoid being possessed thanks to the cross you gave her some time ago." Ed quickly responded to Jonathan's question, hoping that he would personally take action in this case.

"That is something strange." Jonathan remembered that Daniela was not possessed; in fact, no one managed to be possessed and there were no victims.

If something had changed, it was the cross Jonathan had given Judy at his workplace. Maybe that angered a demon so much that, as revenge, it possessed Daniela while waiting for a new encounter.

"I sent you some videos so you can prepare better."

"Yes, I have the envelope in my hand."

Jonathan sighed and began opening the cardboard box in his hands. When he opened the box completely, a radio appeared, and on top of it was a recorder.

"Technology has advanced, Mr. Warren…" Apparently the Warrens were still attached to old recording methods.

Jonathan narrowed his eyes and pressed the play button, and the recorder began emitting a sound through the speakers. The sounds were normal, the quality wasn't good, but there was nothing out of the ordinary.

Jonathan, annoyed, pressed the fast-forward button again and let the recorder spin the tape quickly.

When it reached a certain point, abnormal sounds appeared, and Jonathan switched the pace to normal playback.

"Arrrgh!"

A terrifying, piercing, horrifying, deep howl echoed throughout the English device. The hand Jonathan used to hold the recorder emitted a black aura he could see clearly.

"An evil mark…" Jonathan's expression turned cold, and after sensing the presence of something dark, he manifested his Hand of God, and a blood-red cross formed in the palm of his right hand.

But when Jonathan did this, the recorder stopped emitting sounds and exploded.

Boom!

Jonathan stared at his hand for a few seconds before brushing off the radio debris. It was now safe to conclude that this was a powerful incident caused by a very powerful evil spirit, but this was not enough evidence—at least in the eyes of the Light Association.

Seeing that there was still a USB drive inside the box, Jonathan used an adapter and connected it to his smart tablet, playing the video stored in the drive.

When the screen darkened, a scene appeared in which a girl was lying on a bed, murmuring words in Latin.

The image shook, as if the camera were being held by someone afraid. The room was the Warrens' main hall: crucifixes, religious figurines, protective charms… all trembling slightly, as if an invisible current passed through the place.

In the center, Daniela was sitting in a chair, her wrists tied for safety. Her head hung forward, her hair covering her face. Lorraine could be seen in the background, praying softly.

Ed, off-camera, said: "Daniela… if you can hear me, I want you to fight. We want to help you."

For a moment, nothing happened.

Then, very slowly, Daniela lifted her head. Her face was pale, her eyes completely black. A thin, unnatural smile stretched across her lips.

Jonathan felt a shiver crawl down his spine.

The voice that came out of Daniela wasn't hers—it wasn't human.

First, it was a barely audible murmur, like a whisper brushing the microphone:

"Ionathan… Ionathan…"

Jonathan leaned closer to the screen. It wasn't a common murmur. There was a rhythm, an echo, as if someone were speaking from the depths of a cavern.

The murmurs accelerated.

"Ionathan… audite me…"

"Venire…"

"Venire…"

Lorraine lifted her gaze, nervous, and said: "Ed, she's reacting again…"

The demon inside Daniela turned her head with a crack, staring directly at the camera. The smile widened too much, inhumanly.

She was no longer whispering.

"IO-NATHAN!"

The voice boomed in the video, distorted, as if a thousand throats were screaming at once.

Daniela arched violently over the chair, the ropes tightening to the limit. The lamp behind her exploded in a burst.

And then, in an ancient, guttural Latin, the entity began calling Jonathan by his name, as if invoking him:

"Ioannes… veni ad me… ego te novi… VĒNI, IOANNES!"

Jonathan felt an unnatural cold surround him.

It was impossible.

That creature didn't just know him… it was looking for him.

The video ended abruptly when the screen went completely black.

Jonathan remained still in front of the monitor, the echo of the last scream resonating in his mind.

The demon had not only possessed Daniela.

It had sent a message.

To him.

"That's enough of this…" Jonathan turned off the smart tablet and looked at the third and final piece of evidence, which was a file.

Opening the envelope, inside were several photos.

These photographs were more intuitive than the videos from the recorder and tablet.

The first photo was of the same girl now lying on a bed, but out of nowhere, a pair of hands appeared on her shoulders.

The second photo was of the girl lying on the bed with her eyes closed, but floating…

Jonathan pressed his lips together, threw all the photos back into the cardboard box, grabbed his cellphone, and dialed the number he still hadn't saved.

"Have you seen it?"

"Your family is in extreme danger. Based on the mediation terms we follow, you are dealing with an extreme evil spirit… That's the highest level of contact possible. Give me the address, I will arrive as soon as I can."
