"You handled that rather well," Lamb remarked as William sat atop a thick branch deep within the forest, his gaze fixed on the distance. He waited until he was certain the two entities had truly left the vicinity. Only then would he return to Emma.
"I still think it would've been better if you'd shown yourself and spoken to them," William said with a quiet sigh. "They fear you. Your words would've carried far more weight."
Lamb, no longer resembling the frail, dying existence he once was, slowly shook his head.
"You've misunderstood. There is no longer a distinction between you and me. We are one and the same."
"Oh, really?" William let out a dry chuckle. "Then why did they look so disappointed when they saw me instead of this orb's true guardian?"
Lamb turned toward him, calm as ever.
"Well you also saw what happened next. That disappointment became caution, and by the time they departed, it had become fear."
William had no argument against that.
