Chapter 36 - Chapter 36: Wanting to live alone

Vũ Hy, who had been teasing, suddenly fell silent, as if she'd lost interest. She let out a soft "tsk," then unconsciously reached out and gently tugged at the corner of Lin Ze Yun's shirt.

That tiny action made Ze Yun pause for a moment.

"...Is there something else?" His voice was still low, but it held a tenderness that few could match for Vũ Hy.

"Do you have any clothes?" Vũ Hy replied curtly, her eyes no longer smiling, only showing indifference, but her hand still didn't let go.

The atmosphere was quiet for a few seconds.

Ze Yun's gaze swept over me, soaking wet like a drowned rat, then, as if remembering something, he held up the bag he was carrying towards me:

"This is for you."

I took it, frowning slightly, thinking to myself, "Why did Vũ Hy just mention Ze Yun? Could he be... Doraemon?"

Before I could finish my thoughts, Vu Hy interrupted, laughing:

"See how thoughtful I am?"

I raised my eyebrows, my eyebrows twitching repeatedly as I retorted:

"Oh, so I should thank you too?"

Vu Hy quickly replied:

"Of course!"

The two of us started arguing back and forth, neither willing to back down.

Trach Van stood beside us, not interfering, just silently watching.

His gaze lingered on Vu Hy for a little longer.

…An illogical tenderness.

Just as Vu Hy was turning to say something more, her foot tripped over the edge of the carpet.

"Oh no!"

Her body lost its balance and she fell forward.

Vu Hy thought in panic: "Oh no, this isn't good, am I going to have intimate contact with the ground?"

But before she could hit the ground, a strong arm caught her.

The force wasn't strong, but it was very firm.

Wu Xi's eyes widened, slightly stunned.

Zhai Yun had somehow caught her.

The distance between them was so close they could feel each other's breath.

"...Be careful," his voice lowered, carrying a slight hint of displeasure.

"Don't hurt yourself."

Wu Xi blinked a few times, uncharacteristically not pushing him away immediately, then she regained her composure, returning to her initial nonchalant expression, pushing Zhai Yun away again and saying,

"...I know."

I stood there watching the cheesy display of affection, feeling utterly fed up. I clicked my tongue, deciding to go change instead of being a third wheel.

Zhai Yun didn't say anything more, but felt a little disappointed that Wu Xi had pushed him away again.

Then the three of us went to class.

The atmosphere was still normal, but something subtly changed.

During class, Wu Xi rested her chin on her hand, her eyes fixed on the blackboard, but clearly not concentrating.

She leaned slightly, gently poking Zhai Yun's hand with the tip of her pen.

Once.

Two times.

Three times.

Zhai Yun finally turned to her, his eyes soft as he asked,

"Is something wrong?"

Wu Xi didn't answer immediately. She looked at Zhai Yun's gentle face, pondering what she wanted to say, but hesitated for a while, remaining silent as if deep in thought.

It was rare to see her so quiet.

"...I want to move out."

The moment the words were spoken, the atmosphere seemed to freeze.

Zhai Yun looked at him.

He didn't ask immediately.

His gaze, deeper than usual, held surprise and a hint of disappointment.

"Why? Is there something wrong with living with me...?"

His voice was still low, neither high nor low, but clearly waiting for a serious answer.

Wu Xi gave a faint smile, twirling the pen in her hand:

"Living together is troublesome."

"Besides… I've found a place to live, I don't need to live with you anymore."

It sounded perfectly normal.

But Lin Zheyun didn't believe it.

He looked at Wu Xi for a few more seconds, then slowly said:

"You're lying."

Wu Xi didn't argue or do anything, she just said indifferently:

"Think whatever you want, I was just saying that."

Lin Zheyun, hearing this, asked a question that sounded a little unclear: "Does living with me… make you so uncomfortable?"
