Chapter 203 - Chapter 203

\-Loki-

I materialized away from the confrontation in the New Mexico desert. A bitter taste of frustration filled my mouth. I felt a sting of humiliation at having been forced to retreat by a mere mortal and his bizarre creatures.

I had underestimated the human and the strange beings he commanded. Their unexpected power and coordination proved irritatingly effective. This unforeseen interference significantly complicated my carefully laid plans for Thor.

I had spent ages perfecting my deception. Thor, banished and powerless, would remain insignificant. The Frost Giants, fueled by ancient grudges, would attack Asgard. Odin, weakened by the battle, would die. I would then slay Laufey, my biological father, before his Frost Giant army, becoming Asgard's heroic savior and rightful king. It was an elegant, deceitful path.

The human's presence on Earth was a variable I had not accounted for. My initial assessment of this realm, believing it simple and insignificant, now mocked me. The emergence of him and his Digimon had shattered my carefully constructed narrative.

I considered the human and his creatures. They represented a potent and unpredictable force. The human's ability to transform into an armored being of thunder, coupled with his loyal, combat-ready beasts, presented a new challenge. I had not encountered such power across any of the Nine Realms.

The easy elimination of Thor, or his prolonged exile, was no longer a simple matter. My plans for him, for Odin, for Asgard itself, now fractured around this new obstacle. The domino effect of this human's interference was undeniable.

My original scheme, so pristine and inevitable, lay in ruins. The direct attack on Thor would be complicated. Odin's fate was no longer so easily manipulated. This required a new approach.

My desire for the throne burned brighter than ever. With my original plan shattered, I began to concoct a new, more intricate scheme. This new path would still involve the Frost Giants and the throne of Asgard. It would, however, require a more direct, yet still manipulative, approach to my biological father, Laufey.

The human would need to be eliminated, or at least neutralized. I would not allow further variables to interfere. I would wipe away this humiliation.

I opened a hidden portal, not utilizing the Bifrost, but rather a secret passage known only to a few powerful beings. I stepped through, leaving the sun-baked desert of Earth behind.

The portal hummed, then snapped shut,

 ...

I materialized onto a land of biting cold, a harsh expanse of jagged ice formations. Jotunheim. My birthworld.

It stretched out, stark and brutal, beneath a sky locked in perpetual twilight. This was a realm forged of endless winter. This was Jotunheim, the ancestral home of the Frost Giants. My true home, if one could call it that, though affection was a foreign concept here.

It was an ugly world, populated by uglier creatures.

I made my way across the icy plains, the bitter air clawing at my face. Each breath stung my lungs. I focused on the distant, looming stronghold, a fortress carved from the very glaciers themselves. This was Laufey's domain.

My footsteps crunched on the ice, a small sound in the vast silence.

I found Laufey, the colossal King of the Frost Giants, upon his throne. He was a mountain of blue flesh and cold fury. Red eyes, like embers in the twilight, fixed on me. His warriors, all towering and formidable, stood like statues around him.

His gaze was a physical weight.

"You trespass, Asgardian," Laufey's voice rumbled, ice crystals forming on his lips. "My guards will enjoy dissecting you."

A flick of his wrist. Two hulking Frost Giants moved forward. Their steps shook the ice beneath my feet.

"I come with information, King Laufey," I stated, my voice calm, carefully modulated. "Information that concerns Asgard's deepest vulnerabilities."

Laufey paused, a flicker of something in his cold gaze.

"It was I who opened the secret passage to Asgard," I continued, a hint of satisfaction in my tone. "The path your warriors used to breach Odin's vault."

Laufey's eyes widened, a rare show of surprise on his ancient face. He waved his guards back. The Frost Giants stopped, their massive forms still, but their intent clear. Laufey leaned forward, his gaze piercing.

"So, the trickster plays a larger game," he muttered, a hint of grudging respect in his voice. "What is it you truly seek, son of Odin?"

"I seek Asgard's throne," I declared, my ambition clear, unwavering. "And you, Laufey, can help me claim it."

He watched me, his expression unreadable. I laid out my new plan, a revised tapestry woven from the threads of my initial design, now including this inconvenient human and his beasts.

"The banished prince, Thor, remains on Earth," I explained, my voice smooth, persuasive. "A thorn in Odin's side, and now, a potential weakness for yours."

I described the human, the one called Ethan, and his Digimon. I painted him as a nuisance, an unforeseen complication for both our aims.

"This 'Cipher' poses a threat to any who seek to move freely between realms," I emphasized. "His creatures disrupt natural order. Eliminate Thor, and then direct your forces to eliminate this human. His removal benefits us both."

Laufey's eyes narrowed, considering my words. The opportunity to strike at Asgard, to regain the Casket of Ancient Winters, clearly appealed to his ancient grievances.

"While your Frost Giants attack Thor on Earth, I will arrange for a coordinated assault on Asgard itself," I continued, my voice gaining momentum. "The Casket of Ancient Winters, your birthright, awaits your reclamation."

I watched him, knowing his hunger for vengeance outweighed any suspicion of my true motives. He would be a pawn in my larger game.

"And what assurance do I have," Laufey's voice boomed, "that you will honor this pact?"

"I have little to gain from your demise, King Laufey," I replied, a cold smile touching my lips. "My goal is Asgard's throne. Your conquest of Earth, and the retrieval of your precious Casket, simply removes obstacles."

Laufey considered this, his red eyes narrowed to slits.

"Very well," he conceded, a rumbling growl escaping his chest. "We attack at dawn. The human, and all who stand with him, will fall."

 My smirk widened.

"An excellent decision, King Laufey," I said, bowing slightly. "Asgard will be ours."

I turned, my plan now set in motion, leaving the Frost Giant king to his delusions of grandeur.

 ...

My exit from Jotunheim was swift and silent. I returned to Asgard, the frigid air replaced by the familiar, if stifling, warmth of the palace. My mind raced, re-evaluating every step, every contingency. Laufey was a blunt instrument, predictable in his rage and ambition. He would serve his purpose.

The human remained a variable. His presence on Earth, his unexpected power, had forced this detour. He was an irritant, a fly in my meticulously crafted ointment, but an irritant that now had a target on his back. The Frost Giants would eliminate him as a matter of course. He was merely a mortal, after all. A minor inconvenience to be swept aside.

I made my way to Odin's chamber. The old man lay still, deep in his Odinsleep. He was vulnerable, oblivious. This was a critical part of my plan, ensuring no one would question my authority once the time came.

I observed his peaceful, slumbering face, a stark contrast to the storm brewing in my own mind. My deception would be complete. The throne, finally, would be mine.

My victory felt almost within reach.

It would be a victory hard-won, but all the sweeter for it.
