I woke up feeling like someone had replaced my spine with wet cardboard. My whole body ached in that fun way that tells you you had a good time but also that you are probably too old to be acting like this. Which was insane because I was twenty two and not eighty two, but Enzo's pool party did something spiritual to my bones. Maybe it was the heated water or maybe it was Rico accidentally kicking me in the ribs three different times.
The hallway smelled like food. Real food. Eggs and something buttery. I dragged myself toward it while rubbing my eyes. When I reached the stairs I saw everyone else looking the exact same way I felt. Dead. Dead in the most alive way.
