The St. Jude's Medical Center felt colder than a morgue. The long, sterile hallways were bleached white, smelling strongly of disinfectant and bad news. Raina sat on a rigid plastic chair, her power-red silk suit now wrinkled and stained with her mother's blood. Her eyes were rimmed with a terrifying red, but not a single tear fell. She looked like a statue of vengeance.
The Return of the Advisor
The sound of expensive leather shoes clicked against the tile. Victor, Raina's father, walked toward her. He looked every bit the high-powered legal shark in his pinstripe charcoal suit. Though he and Bianca had been divorced for years—his ambition always coming before his family—he had arrived as the only man capable of handling a crisis this big.
Raina's lip curled in disgust. She hated him for leaving, but she needed his brain. "I know who did this," she said, her voice a jagged blade of ice. "It was Gabriella. File the case, Victor. Drag her through the mud, or I swear, no one will be able to stop what I do to her."
Victor looked down at his daughter, his expression unreadably calm. "It wasn't her, Raina."
"Don't lie to me!" Raina hissed, standing up. "No one else has the guts to take a shot at me! No one else wants me dead this badly!"
"The police have the ballistics and the footage," Victor said smoothly. "The shooter was a man. A man who was released from prison exactly ten days ago. They caught his face on a perimeter CCTV camera."
Raina's breath hitched. "Who?"
"Your old best friend," Victor replied.
Raina staggered back, her world tilting. Who could be?

The Hidden Highway
Suddenly, Raina's phone chimed in her hand. A text message from an unknown number flashed on the screen:
"I want to meet you alone. Hillside Highway. Midnight. Come alone if you want to know what happened earlier."
Raina was in too much shock to even process the message, her mind spinning with images of Ronnie's face. She didn't notice the way Victor's eyes shifted away from her.
Victor stepped back, closing his eyes for a brief second. He felt the weight of the secret burning in his chest. He remembered the frantic minutes before the police arrived at the construction site—how he had hacked the main server and erased the footage of Gabriella and Felix escaping the roof. He had deliberately highlighted Ronnie's face in the feed to lead the trail away from Gabriella.
I have no other options, Victor whispered to himself.I have to frame the boy I already destroyed.

The Trembling Truth
The Phoenix Mansion was a tomb of silence as the heavy oak doors clicked shut. Outside, the sirens of the city felt a world away, but inside, the air was suffocating. Gabriella stood in the center of the grand foyer, her grey silk suit wrinkled and smelling of gunpowder and cold night air. She looked fragile, her usual mask of steel shattered into a thousand pieces.
Felix let out a long, shaky breath of relief, tossing his black leather jacket onto a velvet chair. "Finally," he whispered, his voice jagged. "We escaped the perimeter before the tactical teams moved in."
Gabriella turned to him, her eyes wide and haunted. "I don't... I did it, Felix. I pulled the trigger." Tears began to pool in her eyes, blurring the sight of the man who had just risked everything for her. "Why did you help me escape? I should go back. I have to admit the crime. I can't live like this."
Felix moved faster than she could react. He stepped into her space and placed his hand firmly over her mouth, silencing the confession. "Gabriella, don't say another word," he commanded, his eyes burning with an intense, protective fire.
He slowly removed his hand when he felt her stop shaking. "It wasn't intentional. You were aiming for the monster, not the mother. I've already got word from my contacts at the hospital—Bianca is stable. She's going to make it."
"But Ronnie triggered me," Gabriella sobbed, her voice breaking. "He handed me the gun, he whispered those things about Lara and Kevin... and I listened. I let the fury take over."
Felix's jaw tightened, his expression turning lethal. "It's all because of that Ronnie. Can't you see his true colors? He used your trauma as a weapon, put the gun in your hand, and then vanished into the shadows the second things went south. He left you to take the fall."
He reached out, placing both hands on her shoulders, forcing her to meet his gaze. His eyes were dark, swirling with a mix of deep love and cold calculation. "Gabriella, wake up. You were trapped by a ghost. Now, you have to forget everything. The footage is gone. The trail is cold. As far as the world knows, you were never on that roof."
Gabriella looked into his eyes, searching for a sign of judgment, but she found only an unwavering loyalty that terrified her. She gave a small, slight nod, her spirit exhausted. Felix gave her shoulder a supportive squeeze before turning to walk toward the study, his mind already spinning the next web of protection.
Left alone in the dim light of the hallway, Gabriella looked down at her hands. They were trembling—not with fear, but with a rhythmic, pulsing heat.

The Vow in the Storm
The Phoenix Mansion felt cold as Gabriella returned from her walk, the evening mist clinging to her oversized beige trench coat. She felt heavy with guilt, her mind replaying the gunshot over and over. But as she stepped into the foyer, the sound of raised voices stopped her cold.
A Family Divided
In the center of the grand hall, Nancy was standing under the chandelier, her face flushed with anger. Felix stood opposite her, his expression like a wall of granite.
"I heard everything, Felix!" Nancy cried, her voice echoing off the marble. "Raina and Gabriella have been enemies since college. Is it true? Was it her?"
Felix didn't flinch. "That's an old story, Nancy. Let it go."
"So I was right!" Nancy exhaled, her eyes wide with shock. "No one else would harm Raina's mother. It was Gabriella, wasn't it?"
Felix's voice dropped into a dangerous, desperate growl. "How can you blame my wife without proof? She didn't do it."
Nancy scoffed, stepping closer to her brother. "How can you defend her? You're putting this entire family at risk for her revenge! Have you forgotten what happened to us before?"
"Nancy!" Felix roared, his temper finally snapping.
"Yes," a soft, broken voice interrupted.
They both turned. Gabriella stood in the doorway, her eyes red with sorrow but burning with a dark truth. "It was me."
Nancy walked straight up to Gabriella, her expression more furious than Gabriella had ever seen. "You don't know the cost of revenge, Gabriella. It destroys families. I won't let that happen again. You are a Phoenix now. Leave the past behind, or leave us."
Felix stepped between them, his hand locking firmly around Gabriella's. "Stay away from this, Nancy. She has her own life. This marriage isn't a cage. I knew her past when I married her, and I don't care. Why should you?"
Nancy grabbed Felix's collar, her voice trembling. "Do you forget everything we lost?"
"I haven't forgotten," Felix said, his gaze softening but remaining firm. "But we can't run from enemies. They will chase us even if we want peace. Facing them is the only way."
Nancy let go of him, her face a mask of disappointment. "I'm done with you." She turned to leave.Felix followed her,but she stopped at the door. "Don't worry, I'm not a silly sister. I'll be at your birthday party tomorrow."
The door slammed shut, leaving a ringing silence behind.
Gabriella turned to Felix, her heart racing. Before he could speak, she rushed into his arms and pressed her lips against his. Felix's eyes widened in surprise, but he slowly melted into the kiss.
When they parted, Gabriella whispered, "I'm sorry. I misjudged you. I thought you were like other men, or that you were still upset about the bracelet. But you were protecting me."
"Gabby—"
She placed a finger on his lips. "Let me finish. I wore that bracelet only because I was in a rush and had nothing else. I don't want my past memories affecting my life with you. I won't allow it."
Felix's face softened instantly. He gently moved her hand and whispered, "I am always beside you, Gabriella."
He pulled her closer, sealing a lingering, passionate kiss on her lips. The world outside—the revenge, the shooting, the threats—vanished. He lifted her effortlessly, their lips still locked, and carried her toward the bedroom.

The Midnight Flame
The moonlight spilled across the dressing table mirror as Felix pressed Gabriella against it. His hands held hers firmly against the cool glass while he buried his face in the crook of her neck, his breath hot against her skin. Gabriella gasped, her breath coming in heavy waves.
Her fingers worked feverishly, unbuttoning his black silk shirt. Felix used his teeth to tug at the tie of her white silk coat, his movements hungry and desperate. He pulled the coat from her shoulders, his lips tracing a path from her bare collarbone to her shoulder. He threw his shirt to the floor, his skin glowing in the dim light.
The breeze from the open window made the silk curtains dance, but the only thing they felt was the heat of each other's touch as they surrendered to the night.

The Highway of Truth
The Hillside Highway was a lonely stretch of black asphalt winding through the dark, jagged cliffs. The only light came from the pale moon and the flickering hazards of Raina's silver convertible. The wind howled through the trees like a warning, chilling the air. Raina stood by her car, her crimson silk suit looking almost black in the shadows.
The Reunion of Lies
A figure emerged from the darkness, wearing a heavy black mask. As he approached, he slowly pulled it off. Raina's heart skipped a beat as a familiar face appeared in the dim light.
"Ronnie?" she whispered, a genuine, caring smile breaking across her face. She ran toward him, her voice filled with warmth. "How are you? It's been so long! When did you get back from your studies abroad? I missed you!"
Ronnie didn't smile back. He stood as still as a statue, his eyes hollow and filled with a haunted darkness. He slowly rolled up his sleeve, revealing a jagged, faded scar. "Abroad?" he chuckled, the sound jagged and painful. "I'm not coming from abroad, Raina. I just walked out of prison ten days ago."
Raina staggered back, her head shaking in disbelief. "What? No... my mother told me she hired the best lawyers to get you out. She said you moved away to start a new life a year ago!"
"It was a lie," Ronnie scoffed, his voice trembling with fury. "Your family framed me for Lara's murder to protect the real killer. My family abandoned me, my life was erased, all because of you. You killed my Lara!"
With a roar of agony, he pulled a glinting hunting knife from his belt and lunged toward her.
PING!
A bullet struck the blade of the knife just inches from Raina's stomach, sending it flying into the dirt. Suddenly, the hillside crawled with movement. Police officers emerged from behind the rocks with flashlights blinding the night.
In the center of the chaos stood Victor, Raina's father. He rushed to her side, his dark designer overcoat billowing behind him. "Are you alright, Raina?" he asked, his voice thick with a concern she had never heard before. "I saw the message on your phone and followed you immediately."
Raina looked at him, feeling a strange, new sensation. For the first time in her life, she felt the warmth of a father's protection. She gave a small, shaky nod, leaning into him as the police swarmed Ronnie.
As the officers dragged Ronnie toward a patrol car, Raina broke away from Victor. She ran to Ronnie, her eyes searching his. "I know you didn't shoot my mother today," she hissed. "It was Gabriella, wasn't it? Tell me it was her!"
Ronnie looked at her with pure, unadulterated hatred. "I wanted to kill you so badly, Raina. But I lost that chance twice today."
"Who stopped you?" she demanded.
Ronnie chuckled, a dark, victorious sound as the handcuffs clicked shut. "I won't tell you. I went to jail once for a murder I didn't commit to save you. But this time? I'm ready to go to jail for that person—proudly."
Raina stood frozen on the asphalt as the sirens faded into the distance. Beside her, Victor placed a hand on her shoulder, but his gaze was fixed on the dark trees above.
