Chapter 347 - Chapter 349: What Kind of Filth Is Constantine?

[Congratulations Host for signing C-Rank employee: Joe Cole!]

Seeing Joe Cole's employee evaluation, Fang Yuan was somewhat surprised.

Of course, he wasn't surprised that it was low, but rather that it was so high.

After all, Joe didn't have any superpowers, yet he managed a C-rank rating.

Fang Yuan knew that employee evaluations could go as low as F-rank.

"It seems the Joker is indeed extraordinary." This was the only reason Fang Yuan could think of.

[Name: Joe Cole]

[Rank: C]

[Reputation: 78 (Famous far and wide)]

[Unlock Rewards: Initial Reward (Claimable), Tier 1 Reward (Claimable), Tier 2 Reward (Claimable)]

Because the employee evaluation was so low, Fang Yuan didn't hold much expectation for what Joe could unlock.

Past experience told him that for employees who lacked superpowers but occupied important roles in the plot, the most valuable thing was the Tier 4 Aura reward.

Sure enough, Joe's initial reward was a crowbar; while very sturdy, it was quite rude to Robins, especially Jason.

The Tier 1 reward was the production method for Mad Laughing Gas, and it was only the basic version.

It was somewhat useful to Fang Yuan, but not by much.

However, when Fang Yuan saw the Tier 2 reward, he gained a bit of interest.

[Fear Paint (C-rank): Patterns drawn with this paint can induce mild feelings of fear; includes formula.]

His Fox persona could actually use this, painting it on the mask to randomly scare a few kids into tears.

Boris didn't die in vain.

Fang Yuan wouldn't stand up for Boris; in his heart, only the signed employees on the Company panel counted as real employees.

But before Fang Yuan could order a shift in resources, Joe Cole, who had also unlocked a persona, submitted a script to the Vought manager.

The script was titled—"Joker"!

Ever since dealing with Boris, Joe Cole seemed to have reached a sudden epiphany, and his whole being radiated vitality.

Perhaps Joe Cole did have a superpower—his superpower was himself, he just hadn't discovered it before.

But although Joe had transformed, he remained very respectful toward Fang Yuan, which satisfied Fang Yuan greatly, making him feel his efforts hadn't been wasted.

"From today on, you shall be the Joker Consort!"

To match the Bat Consort, Fang Yuan magnanimously bestowed this title in his mind.

Speak of the devil, and he shall appear.

Batman happened to come looking for him.

"Last time you said you wanted to find something related to magic, I suddenly found one," Bruce said.

Fang Yuan asked with interest, "Oh? What is it?"

"Um... he's not a thing," Bruce paused, "He is—"

"Constantine."

"???"

Hearing that name, Fang Yuan immediately opened a portal to the bathroom, turned on the faucet, and began washing his ears.

"He's definitely not a 'thing', he's more like 'filth'," Fang Yuan complained.

Bruce quickly explained, "Not that Constantine, another one I haven't seen before."

"One you haven't seen?" A thought struck Fang Yuan's mind.

"Is he a blonde, scruffy middle-aged man or a handsome man with black hair?" he asked.

"Black hair." Bruce narrowed his eyes slightly. "You know him?"

Fang Yuan breathed a sigh of relief. "That's better then."

John Constantine, a DC super-villain, best known for cheating, deceiving, and screwing over his teammates.

His famous feats included, but were not limited to: selling one soul multiple times, crossbreeding with demons, cursing his own biological father, dragging a little girl's soul to hell, raping his own niece, and so on.

Although some of the bad things weren't entirely his intention, Constantine's tendency to screw over his teammates was very real; it was only after the old continuity ended and Constantine entered the New 52 World, where his teammates were replaced by superheroes like the Justice League, that things got a bit better.

They all had superpowers and could withstand his scheming.

Dealing with such a person, Fang Yuan worried that if he didn't kill him out of impulse, he might be sold out by him at any moment.

But the handsome, black-haired version of Constantine was something he could accept.

This was the Constantine from Keanu Reeves' "Constantine." As a comic book adaptation, the biggest flaw of "Constantine" was that it was a comic book adaptation.

Taken on its own, the movie was very good, but if combined with the comics, the adaptation was too drastic.

The Constantine here was not only more handsome—almost reaching 70% of Fang Yuan's level—but was also no longer a scumbag who deliberately screwed over his teammates; he even possessed the heroic spirit of self-sacrifice.

Even though his teammates basically still died... Of course, a large part of the reason this black-haired, life-countdown-limited Constantine had these changes was because he was about to die.

But at least this black-haired version could be treated as a normal Superhero.

However, Constantine's extensive criminal record still prompted Fang Yuan to ask cautiously, "Is he about to die now?"

Bruce nodded. "Late-stage lung cancer, he won't live more than a year."

"That's good then." Fang Yuan felt completely at ease.

"?"

Bruce slowly typed out a question mark; how was that good?

But remembering the subject was Constantine, he could understand.

Then Fang Yuan's expression tightened again; if Constantine was dying, then the plot of "Constantine" was about to begin.

The story of "Constantine" tells of the Angel Gabriel being jealous of humans being favored by God, deeply feeling that human morality was corrupt, and believing that only destruction could inspire the brilliance of human nature.

So Gabriel colluded with Satan's son, Mammon, attempting to help Mammon descend to the human World so that humans could grow through suffering, only to be counter-killed by Constantine using the hand of Satan, Lucifer.

It was interesting when watching the movie, but when "Constantine" happened in the DC Universe, the underlying impact was enormous.

Because characters like God, Satan, Gabriel, and Mammon appeared in the movie, and as everyone knows, the God of the DC Universe is one of the strongest characters, and Satan's setting is almost 'under one person, above ten thousand.'

Each of these two was countless times more terrifying than Darkseid.

"How much do you know about God and Satan?" Fang Yuan didn't speculate too much and chose to ask the local directly.

"God? Satan?" Bruce frowned.

He immediately realized this was related to the events behind Constantine, so he thought carefully and even closed his eyes to sense for a moment.

"They both exist, but in this World, they should only exist as projections, and they almost never interfere with the World's operation," Batman replied.

"You sensed all that?" Fang Yuan was very puzzled.

He also equipped the [Bruce Template] and followed his example, closing his eyes to sense.

Finally, this time he experienced something different in the [Bruce Template].

"Everything Batman says is right?"

Fang Yuan opened his eyes in shock, repeating the message he had sensed.

He didn't know who sent this message, but he received it nonetheless.

Fang Yuan stared at Bruce in bewilderment.

So the [Bruce Template] also has the function of communicating with God?

Or to be more specific—a Screenwriter Communicator?

Is Batman really the 'Grandaddy' of DC?
