Chapter 50 - Detention

After school had ended, Tristan, Mimi, Alex, and Malachi sat in the detention room. The sound of the clock ticking filled the entire room as everyone remained silent.

Malachi was reading a book based on ice spells, while Mimi sharpened her sword, Alex childishly stacked the nearest book he could find into a tower while Tristan slept.

*CLICK* The sound of the door opening alarmed everyone as a man with white hair and sharp white eyes walked into the room. He wore a black trench coat and had a katana by his side. His name was Barton, a teacher at Obsidian Academy.

"Let's get going," Barton announced as he stared at them with a cold, calculating gaze.

"Uh… pardon me, sir, but may I ask where we're going?" Malachi asked as he stared at Barton with confusion.

"A gate was spotted at Selun Street downtown. As your punishment, you are required to kill the spirits and seal the gates." Barton hollered as his firm command caught everyone off guard.

These wannabe failures aren't good enough to complete the simplest tasks, let alone this one.

Barton thought as he stared at them with a strict and firm gaze; it was clear that his opinion of them was very low.

"Alright, let's get going!" Tristan exclaimed as he jumped up from his seat. The boredom he once felt was completely gone; his eyes sparkled with determination. The rest got up from their seats with a determined smile on their faces; they clearly looked excited for the mission.

"Oh man, this is gonna be fun! If this is how detention works around here, then I wanna be in detention every day." Alex cheered with a smile on his face; it was obviously clear that he was a battle junkie.

"Dumb ass, if you do that, then you'll surely get expelled before you even finish a term here!" Mimi scolded Alex with a worried look on her face; the chemistry between them almost felt sibling-like.

"I don't actually care as long as Tristan's okay with it," Malachi explained as he closed the book he was reading and stood up from his desk.

"You know I'm starting to think you're gay, Mal," Alex complained with a sly smile on his face, but immediately Mimi and Malachi whacked him on the head at the same time

Complete idiot

They both thought as Alex whimpered in pain. Tristan, on the other hand, looked confused at what the word "gay" meant.

"Tristan, I see, so you don't know what that word means. Honestly, I would like to say it, but for legal reasons I won't mention it." Raven chimed in as he playfully floated around.

Meanwhile Barton was shocked as most student would complain and argue when work was mentioned but for the first time that wasn't the case as Tristan and his friends where clearly enthusiastic about the mission, slowly but surely his original view of them had begun to shift his main view of how he saw the group had begun to change and even though it was just a little there was clearly a smile on his face as he watched the group laugh and argue.

"Alright, go get your weapons from your locker. The chauffeur is in front of the school gates waiting." Barton added as he walked out of the room, surprisingly in a good mood. The group smiled and rushed to their lockers to grab their weapons.

Once everyone was ready and in their combat uniform, they got in a black luxurious bus with the Academy's logo on it.

Tristan, while sitting in the bus with Barton and the group he noticed that everyone was in different-looking uniforms than his.

"Hey, why do our clothes look different from each other?" Tristan asked as he stared at his and everyone else's.

"That's because Obsidian Academy allows personally customised uniforms for combat, so the user can feel comfortable according to their preferences," Barton explained as he sat in the front seat, and although he explained the rules, Tristan still looked confused.

"He's trying to say that the school allows the students to design their uniforms," Mimi added as she made it more simplistic for Tristan to understand.

"I see, but I didn't design my uniform?" Tristan said as he stared at his red trench coat and black trousers that he wore.

"Then maybe it's your Elder Brother," Barton said as he stared outside the car's window.

Tristan was shocked as to how Barton knew Blanc Noir, let alone that he was his brother.

"Wait, how did you know about that?" Tristan asked with a tone filled with confusion and suspicion.

"Chill, back in the day your brother was my teacher when I was a student at Obsidian Academy, though I must admit he was pretty useless as a teacher still…he was the strongest even before he assumed the title of an emperor," Barton mumbled that last part as he stared at his reflection from the car's window.

"Wait, the famous Emperor Mr Blanc Noir was your teacher!?" Alex exclaimed as he stared at Barton with Respect, not only him but Malachi, Mimi, and Tristan as well; they clearly wanted to here Bartons back story, but he just laughed it off as he stared at their awed faces from the side window.

"Sir, we've arrived at Selun Street; the gate is just up ahead… I would have loved to get closer, but this traffic seems to think otherwise." The chauffeur complained as he stopped the car in the middle of the traffic caused by the gate's appearance.

"Don't worry, we can walk from here," Barton said as he and the group got out of the Luxurious bus and walked towards a Bright blue light emanating from the end of the traffic. Obviously, that was the supposed gate that the chauffeur had mentioned.

"Anyway, we forgot to ask what your name is, sir ?" Tristan asked as the group walked through the narrow space caused by the traffic.

"It's Mr—"

"BARTON! OVER HERE!" A man interupted barton as he waved his hand at them. Behind the man was a Big blue portal; the bright light caught the attention of Tristan's friends as they stared in awe, most especially Tristan. This was his first Time seeing a gate.
