It's been about a week since I started observing the girl who seems to be the right one. From what I've been able to gather, Shizuka really does lead a miserable life.
She studies at a public college where she suffers pretty severe bullying. Her father is a piece of shit who beats her, and her mother deeply despises her. From what I read in her diary when she wasn't home, her life boils down to this.
Bullying, parental abuse, and deep sadness. All because she revealed she could "see" ghosts as a child, and her insistence, combined with an incident where a kid got hurt by a ghost, made her a pariah.
It's obvious her parents don't like the whole "seeing ghosts" thing either. Apparently, her father is a terrible drunk, and her mother drinks heavily too, but I haven't found much about why.
