I slowed the car and pulled the handbrake, bringing us to a stop outside Layla's apartment building.
Layla shifted slightly in her seat and looked through the windshield at the building. After a quiet breath, she turned toward me with a small smile.
"So, that's where I live," she said. "Thanks for dropping me off."
"No problem. Least I could do." I smiled. "And maybe I can get a discount now?"
"Maybe."
"Maybe is enough for me."
We both chuckled as the rain outside intensified, drumming against the roof of the car and blurring the streetlights through the windshield.
