About an hour passed as he endured the excruciating pain in his head.

He pushed himself up, his body unsteady and trembling, and staggered toward the bed.
His legs nearly gave out before he managed to reach it. With a heavy drop, he collapsed onto the mattress, breathing hard.

His eyes stayed shut. He didn't even have the strength to open them.
