Chapter 52 - The Hidden Blade

Chapter 53 — The Hidden Blade

The battlefield trembled under the weight of two overwhelming forces.

Scar stood in the sky, his presence calm… too calm.

Across from him, the man who refused to die slowly wiped the blood from his lips, his grin returning.

"You've changed," he said.

Scar didn't answer.

Below them, John watched, barely able to stand.

Something felt wrong.

Not the enemy.

Not the power.

Scar.

"…why does it feel like…" John whispered, "…he's not fighting seriously?"

Above—

The man charged again, his transformed power tearing through the air.

Scar raised his hand.

Stopped it effortlessly.

But this time—

He didn't counterattack.

The man noticed.

"…you're holding back."

Scar's eyes flickered slightly.

"Maybe."

In the next instant—

They clashed again.

But now, something was different.

Subtle.

Hidden.

Scar's attacks weren't aimed to kill.

They were controlled.

Measured.

As if—

He was waiting.

Down below, John's heartbeat quickened.

"…what are you doing, Scar…?"

Then—

It happened.

In the middle of another clash—

Scar deliberately left an opening.

The man's eyes widened.

A perfect chance.

Without hesitation—

He struck.

A devastating blow landed directly on Scar.

The impact echoed across the battlefield.

Scar was sent crashing down, hitting the ground with immense force.

"Scar!" John shouted.

Dust filled the air.

Silence followed.

Then—

A low chuckle.

Not from the enemy.

From Scar.

John froze.

From within the smoke—

Scar slowly stood up.

Unshaken.

Unbothered.

"…took you long enough," he muttered.

The man frowned.

"What?"

Scar lifted his head.

And for the first time—

His eyes weren't focused on the enemy.

They were on John.

Everything stopped.

"…Scar?" John's voice trembled.

Scar stepped out of the dust.

His aura steady.

Perfectly controlled.

No cracks.

No instability.

As if the damage before—

Never mattered.

"You really believed it," Scar said quietly.

John's mind went blank.

"…believed what?"

Scar tilted his head slightly.

"That I was on your side."

The words echoed.

Heavy.

Unavoidable.

The enemy in the distance watched silently now.

Interest replacing amusement.

John staggered back.

"No… this isn't the time for jokes…"

Scar didn't smile.

"This isn't a joke."

A sudden pressure exploded outward.

But it wasn't aimed at the enemy.

It was aimed at John.

John dropped to one knee instantly, his body unable to resist.

"…what are you doing?" he gasped.

Scar walked toward him slowly.

Each step deliberate.

"You were necessary," Scar said.

A pause.

"That's all."

John's fists clenched.

"…necessary for what?"

Scar stopped in front of him.

"For this moment."

Behind them—

The enemy spoke.

"So I was just a distraction?"

Scar didn't even look at him.

"Yes."

The man's grin widened.

"…interesting."

John's breathing grew heavier.

"…Scar… explain this…"

Scar looked down at him.

Cold.

Detached.

"Everything you went through," he said, "every battle… every loss…"

A pause.

"I allowed it."

John's eyes widened.

"No…"

"Yes."

Scar crouched slightly, bringing his face closer to John's.

"I needed you to grow stronger."

A whisper.

"To become capable of reaching this level."

John's voice shook.

"…why?"

Scar's gaze darkened.

"Because only someone like you…"

A pause.

"…could bring me to the edge."

The pressure increased again.

John struggled to breathe.

"And now," Scar continued, "I've crossed it."

He stood up again.

Turning away.

"You've served your purpose."

John's heart pounded violently.

"…you're my enemy?"

Scar stopped.

Then answered without hesitation.

"I always was."

Silence.

The truth settled like a blade through the chest.

Behind them—

The enemy laughed.

"So what now? Do I still matter?"

Scar finally looked at him.

"For now."

A faint smile formed.

"But not for long."

The air grew heavier.

More dangerous.

More final.

Because now—

This wasn't a three-way battle anymore.

It was something worse.

A war where alliances never existed.

John slowly pushed himself up, his body shaking—not just from pain, but from betrayal.

"…then I'll kill you," he said quietly.

Scar didn't react.

"Try."

Power surged.

And the battlefield—

Prepared to witness something far more terrifying than war.
