The courtyard of the territory descended into an absolute bloodbath. Lizardmen, Jhuuls, kobolds, and Kairo's inner circle clashed violently within the stone perimeter, spilling crimson onto the once-untouched ground. A pair of kobolds surged forward, picking up a heavy Lizardman by the tail and throwing him bodily into an oncoming cluster of beast-folk. Spears thrust outward in retaliation, aimed directly for the kobolds' necks, only to be deflected away by the desperate sweep of a wooden shield.
Onyx tore through the frontline like a localized tempest. He impaled a Lizardman on his lance, jumped high into the air, and executed a swift backward spin that cleanly cleaved a jumping Jhuul in half mid-air. Landing heavily, the black skeleton kicked another feline attacker away before violently slamming his violet lance downward, pinning two Lizardmen to the dirt.
Theo fought with the exact same lethal precision. His blade of light hummed, cutting through the enemy troops with absolute ease. His high-tier movements were bound to utterly outstep these weak, ordinary vanguard forces.
The initial burst of blinding light that had filled the courtyard had settled down, but the eyes of Onyx, Theo, and Demis still retained a distinct, eerie blue tint. Yet, what was profoundly weird was that this visual shift gave them absolutely no mechanical strength. The system interface showed no active stat buffs; the effect was entirely cosmetic, a raw byproduct manifested purely by Kairo's deep, suffocating rage.
Quipster tilted his masked head, the fake smile painted in black across the porcelain face twitching slightly as he let out a sharp chuckle. "What is with those eyes of yours?" the jester mocked, casually leaning against his sickle. "Before this, I truly thought you were going to awaken some spectacular hidden power, but you just changed eye colors! Did your Lord want to give you all a fashion makeover before you die?"
The joke didn't land anywhere. Onyx and Theo didn't even blink. They were entirely determined to move forward, compelled by an intense, silent command echoing from deep within their souls.
Theo was the first to clear his path through the melee, activating his Dash skill to rocket straight toward the jester.
Quipster laughed, twirling his twin sickles in his hands with a theatrical flourish. "Yes! Make this fun for me!" he commanded.
In a sudden burst of movement, Theo drove his light blade forward, but the strike was instantly countered by the flat of Quipster's sickle. Sparks flew. Theo instantly pivoted, converting the momentum into a fierce thrust aimed at the jester's throat. Quipster merely stepped aside with a dancer's grace, raising a single boot to deliver a heavy kick that sent the holy knight stumbling backward.
"Weak!" Quipster shouted, waving his blade dismissively. "Give me the boney one!"
Onyx didn't wait. The black skeleton dashed forward, skewering a Lizardman who dared cross his path. With a violent heave, Onyx hurled the dying reptilian body directly at the jester.
Quipster let out a loud, bottomless laugh. "Oh, I do love a cold blood shower!"
With a single, lightning-fast cross-slash, Quipster sliced the flying body in two mid-air. The dark blood drained all over his jester garb, soaking him completely. He laughed through the crimson rain, looking up just in time to see Onyx descending from above.
The clash that followed was nothing short of epic. Onyx unleashed a relentless flurry of heavy, sweeping strikes, his violet lance vibrating with shadow energy as he repeatedly struck at the jester from every angle. Theo surged back into the fray, his light blade flashing in tandem, attempting to intervene and lock Quipster in a pincer movement. But the jester was an unpredictable blur. With an erratic, bending posture, Quipster consistently pushed Theo back with sharp, snapping parries, keeping the knight at bay while focusing his true malice on the skeleton.
The sound of steel against steel became deafening. Quipster and Onyx engaged in a full-on, relentless clash, their blades swinging and colliding repeatedly in a blur of high-speed motion. Sparks flew everywhere, illuminating the smoke-choked courtyard as the two high-tier combatants traded blows, neither giving an inch as the sheer force of their impacts cracked the stones beneath their feet.
A short distance away, Demis was fiercely fighting off a pair of feral Jhuuls, his swift blade parrying their claws before he drove his steel through a gap in their guard. As the beast-folk collapsed, his eyes darted across the blood-stained dirt.
"Chloe!" Demis gasped.
He rushed toward her, throwing himself onto his knees beside her crumpled form.
"Chloe! Wake up!"
"Please!"
"Your the only one we have....please wake up!"
He called her name over and over, his hands hovering over the massive gash on her front, but he got absolutely no answer. The silence was suffocating. Tears welled in his eyes, but just as a heavy sob tore from his throat, he saw a faint, agonizingly slow movement—her chest rose and fell in a fragile, shallow breath.
Relief flooded his chest, but the sheer hopelessness of the surrounding battle quickly choked it out. The territory was falling apart. Demis looked up, looking at Kairo standing completely still amid the chaos, his knuckles white and his rage barely suppressed.
"Lord Kairo!" Demis shouted frantically, trying to pierce through the silence. "We need to retreat! We need to group up and secure the core!"
Kairo didn't listen. He didn't even turn his head.
Realizing his master was entirely consumed by the abyss of his anger, Demis quietly silenced himself. He looked away, his gaze shifting toward the Tier 1 house where the remaining dark elves were hiding, trapped behind the fragile wooden walls. Demis gulped heavily, his mind shifting gears. (I have to get them out of here. If the perimeter falls, they're dead.)
In the center of the yard, Quipster stepped back from Onyx, wiping a streak of Lizardman blood from his mask. "You know, for a bunch of colorful eyes, you really aren't doing much," he joked, pointing his sickle at Kairo.
"Cocky bastard," Kairo muttered, his voice deathly quiet. Then, the dam broke. He roared at the top of his lungs, a speech born of raw, unadulterated fury that cut through the sounds of war.
"You invaded our home!" Kairo screamed, his veins bulging against his temples as the crimson in his eyes deepened. "We didn't do a single thing to you! We were building something here! But you harmed my close ones... you slaughtered my people! So now, you will pay! That rabbit bastard too! And Leon! You will all pay!"
Quipster simply blinked behind his mask, letting out a soft, mocking whine. "Awww. Where's the fun in that?"
CRACK!
A horrifying, sickening sound of splintering bone roared through the territory. In a flash of terrifying speed, Quipster slipped past Onyx's guard, his sickle cleaving through the air. Onyx's left skeletal arm was violently severed at the elbow, dropping heavily into the dirt.
Kairo's eyes widened in profound shock. His strongest vanguard hero had been heavily crippled in a single breath.
Miles away, on the other battlefield, the parallel struggle had reached its absolute limit.
Garth was gasping heavily for air, his chest heaving violently as blood dripped from a nasty gash on his forehead. His long hair was tied back tightly like the fierce mane of a lion, now partially dyed red by his own blood. Yet, he smiled.
He looked across the shattered clearing toward Jeeves. The rabbit-headed butler was still standing completely strong, his tailored suit barely wrinkled.
"Where did all that confidence go, big fella?" Garth spat, laughing through the pain as he tightened his grip on his battle-axe. "Not so cocky now, you bastard!"
Varen watched from the ridge, his lazy posture tightening as he started to get genuinely nervous. "Alright... this is getting a bit out of hand."
"Because you're an idiot," Lyra snapped coldly, her black horns gleaming as she turned toward the tactical leader. "Claymond, order our forces to step in. We need to protect that fool before he gets himself killed."
Claymond adjusted his glasses, his expression hardening. "I agree. The situation has shifted."
Standing right behind them, Fallon's one eye flared with a sudden, intense light. On the outside, she remained perfectly stoic, but internally, she was screaming with pure, unadulterated excitement. (Finally! Finally some action! No more waiting!)
But before Claymond could finish his verbal order to Fallon and Renn, the heavy, stone-reinforced wooden door of the base hut slowly creaked open.
CREEEAAAK—
The rough sound of wood grinding against ancient stone echoed across the clearing. The heavy, stone-reinforced wooden door of the nearby base hut slowly creaked open. Everyone—the Lords, the heroes, and even the fighting troops—abruptly froze, turning their heads toward the dark threshold.
From the shadows, a towering figure calmly stepped out into the light. He whisked his long hair backward with a slow, arrogant motion of his hand, his piercing eyes sweeping over the allied army with utter disdain.
Leon.
Claymond went completely silent, his glasses reflecting the villain's approach. After a heavy, suffocating silence, Claymond raised his voice. "Leon... Finally decided to show yourself, huh?"
Down in the clearing, Jeeves's eyes widened in a sudden mixture of intense fear and irritation. (Why... why did this bastard have to come outside now?!) the butler thought frantically, his hands trembling. (Now everything is completely out of my hands!) He looked down at his own sleeves, a strange, violent irritation pulsing beneath the cloth, a hidden power he had been desperate to keep contained.
Back at the ruined base, the remaining blue light in Kairo's eyes completely died out, turning into a dull, terrifying, and total crimson.
And miles away, Leon smiled, his aura exploding outward and crushing the battlefield in a wave of dominant power.
"Finally..." Leon murmured, his voice carrying the weight of a true tyrant. "It's time... to show the might of a true lord!"
To be continued.....
