Chapter 68 - Chapter 60 : Police Force

Fall of Year 31

The streets of Konoha lay quiet beneath the silver glow of the full moon dimly illuminating the empty alleys and shuttered storefronts. The vibrant energy of the day had faded into stillness.

Uchiha Shinichi walked alone as he carried a large bento box, carefully wrapped in cloth in his hands. It was a dinner for his father.

Only one Uchiha Police Division was on patrol tonight, their silhouettes occasionally passing through intersections in disciplined formation. The rest of the village slept peacefully, unaware of the silent sacrifices made to keep that order.

Shinichi's destination was Police Headquarters, where his father, Uchiha Fukashi, was overseeing the night shift.

---

After months of deliberation, Sosuke and the elders had formalized a new structure within the Konoha Military Police Force – the creation of Police Division Commanders. It was a necessary evolution, designed to bring clarity to the growing organization's hierarchy and structure.

As clan head, Sosuke remained Chief of the Police Force.

Eisuke, his designated heir, served as second-in-command.

Below them, seven division commanders were appointed – each a shinobi of elite jonin or quasi-kage or even kage level strength.

Among them, Fukashi stood apart.

Though he kept it hidden, Fukashi possessed Mangekyo Sharigan and true Kage-level power, which were only known to Sosuke. To the rest, he was simply the quiet, reliable, and deeply respected commander of the 2nd Division.

1st Division was led by the 6th Elder, Uchiha Haka, whose decades of combat and disciplinary experience made him the ideal mentor for the younger commanders.

3rd Division was led by Uchiha Naka, a sharp and assertive Quasi-Kage Jonin

4th Division was led by Uchiha Naori, a calm and tactical Elite Jonin.

5th Division was led by Uchiha Setsuna, a fierce and outspoken Elite Jonin.

6th Division was led by Uchiha Heiwa, a diplomatic and steady Elite Jonin.

7th Division was led by Uchiha Kagami, who was a Division Commander in name only.

Due to his role as Hokage Body Guard, Kagami could not actively manage his division. Instead, Eisuke operated under Kagami's name, using the position to elevate Kagami's reputation and visibility within the village.

---

Each division rotated through night duty, taking turns to oversee the Police Headquarters while the other rested. During these shifts, the division commander held full authority over operations. If the clan head was absent – whether on mission or in wartime – the highest-ranking commander would assume control of the entire force stationed within Konoha.

It was a system built on familial bonds and trust.

And tonight, it was Fukashi and 2nd division's turn.

---

Shinichi slowly walked the streets, scanning the quiet village.

Konoha had become more peaceful and orderly since the formation of the Konoha Military Police Force. But Shinichi knew what lay beneath that peace: the silent labor of his clansmen, the sacrifices made without recognition.

'Who in this village truly sees the burden we carry? The nights we guard, the order we maintain – so they can sleep without fear. Will they remember? Or will they turn on us the moment something goes wrong?'

His thoughts drifted to the past. The Imperial Knights – once hailed as saviors and liberators of mankind – were the first to be blamed when the war dragged on, when fear spread, and when conditions worsened. Civilians, manipulated by nobles and media, turned the initial gratitude into resentment. Disasters struck– it's the knight's fault. Bandits attacked – it's the knight's fault. The war prolonged too long – it's the knights' incompetence. No matter the sacrifice, they became scapegoats of nobles. A convenient sandbag for the system to vent public resentment.

It was as if he could foresee the future struggles of his clan now.

His gaze lifted to the moon.

For Shinichi, family was foundation. If the family was safe, then the clan could thrive. And only then could the village's interest be considered.

'To ignore family and clan and leap straight into serving the village? That's how the Outer Circle Knights were destroyed. We fought for a system that was designed to abandon them when necessary. We died for wrong people and wrong cause.'

The Knights weren't bound by blood – but they were bound by shared pain, by loyalty, and by love. That too was a family.

Shinichi had once believed Konoha was his Knight Order.

But after Kaito's birth, his perspective shifted.

'Family and clan are the Knight Order and Konoha and the Land of Fire is the system, tool, and shield against foreign threats. But what about the conflict between village and clan?'

Shinichi stopped at the edge of the street nearing the Police Headquarters, as the wind whistled through the half stripped trees lining the path.

' I have no voice there. At least, not yet. I need more strength. Only then can I start something.'

And with that, he continued his steps.

"SHIN!!!!"

Uchiha Fukashi, clad in his all-black disciplinary unit uniform, stood up from this desk with a wide grin. The emblem on his back – a turquoise shuriken crossed behind the Uchiha fan, flanked by four circular dots – and a sleeve with with number two (二) written marked him as a commander of the 2nd Division of the Konoha Military Police Force.

Shinichi stepped into the office, carrying a scroll and a large bento box.

"Dad. Mom and I packed some snacks for you and your division. You can share them during your break."

He unsealed the scroll, summoning bentos and treats for all 210 members of the division.

Fukashi's eyes welled up theatrically.

"Sniff! Only you and Minami care about us! Sniff Sniff!!!"

Shinichi raised an eyebrow before shaking his head.

"Mom told me to tell you not to fool around during duty."

Fukashi immediately straightened up and opened the bento box

"Ha! Hahaha… okay, okay. Shinichi, are you still sticking with mission work? Not joining the Police Force?"

"I'll keep taking missions for now. The Police Force has too many responsibilities. I'd barely get time to train or develop new jutsu. I'll consider after I become a Jonin."

Fukashi nodded.

"I respect that."

Shinichi sat down across from him as Fukashi began to dig in on the bento.

"Dad… I've been wondering. Can you sense the strength or development of other clansmen's Sharingan?"

Fukashi tilted his head as he took a bite of a grilled slamon.

"What do you mean?"

"I've met many clansmen with three-tomoe Sharingan. But they're not all the same. Some feel more mature -richer in 'Sharingan chakra'. Your eyes, for example, have exponential amount of chakra because of your Mangekyo Sharingan. The Division commanders have more chakra than most, and the clan head has a lot too… but I'm not sure if he's awakened the Mangekyo."

Fukashi's eyes widened and placed the chopstick down on the desk.

"Wait… you're saying you can sense that?

"Not exactly. But I've been trying to gauge the threshold for awakening Mangekyo. I think it's tied to Yin chakra. Well, a special kind of yin chakra. I named it sharingan chakra because... there is a subtle difference between it and yin or yang chakra...." Shinichi noticed that Fukashi was taking his time to process the information and stopped. "Anyways..."

Fukashi leaned back and began to rub his chin in contemplation.

"I thought Sharingan evolved through emotional trauma like loss and grief…"

"That's true." Shinichi nodded. "Emotional stimuli accelerates Sharingan evolution. But it's the chakra itself that literally drives the evolution. The trauma just triggers the surge. And that surge affects our spiritual energy, hence our mentality too. That's why so many of us change after the awakening. We become colder, more obsessed with power. It's not the grief or pain that affects us – it's the chakra that destabilizes our minds."

Fukashi was stunned.

"How did you figure this out?"

"Technically. It's just a theory – Based on my own experience. When my Sharingan evolved to three tomoe after Kaito's birth, I felt a profound shift in my perspective. It might've been a moment of enlightenment, but the change was so intense, so unnatural, it felt as if my past no longer mattered. As if I had been reborn in that instant."

Shinichi stared at his hand as he clenched it back and forth.

"From that day onward, I tried keeping sharingan active indefinitely and directed chakra and Yin chakra to my eyes, but its made no improvement. It wasn't until I mastered the iryo(medical) jutsu that I stimulated the central brain nerves that I felt it activate during the initial surge that I experienced a change in my sharingan. I haven't experienced any mental disruption but Sharingan matured tremendously. This is what led me to question the nature of our eyes' evolution."

Fukashi loosened his grip on his chin as his jaw dropped.

"Shinichi… are you saying know how to artificially stimulate this surge in others?"

"I do. But it's slow and delicate. It took me nearly a year to safely activate Kaito's brain. I was planning to refine this method, but with war coming, I stopped delving any deeper."

Fukashi froze. He was furious and yet also proud of his son.

"You did what to Kaito?"

"I stimulated his brain for a milliseconds each night for six months. Now his brain actively stimulate the release Yin and Yang chakra naturally. albeit at a very slow rate... But if nothing goes wrong, based on the sharingan chakra he's accumulating, he should awaken his Sharingan within a year or two – and evolve it naturally to three tomoe within the next six to ten years."

Shinichi looked down.

"I can sense I've also accumulated a lot of sharingan chakra. I'm not close to your level yet, but I'm nearing the clan head's. I was wondering… has Uncle Sosuke awakened Magekyo?"

Fukashi was silent for a moment.

"… I'll ask him."

"Is that okay?"

"Don't worry. I'll handle it."

Fukashi stood and placed a hand on Shinichi's shoulder.

"It's late. Go home. Get some sleep."

"Alright. Enjoy your night duty, Dad."

Shinichi left quietly, the moonlight casting long shadows behind him.

---

Back in his office, Fukashi sat down slowly.

'Artificially awakened and evolved Sharingan… if we could develop a method to awaken all our clansmen…"

He shook his head.

'No, don't get ahead of yourself. Shinichi had to treat Kaito for half a year. The method is delicate and dangerous. But if it works…'

He looked out the window and toward the quiet village with renewed vigor.

'Then… the future of Uchiha will be limitless.'
