It sounded utterly ludicrous.
But it was true.
No one doubted the capabilities of the Mexican drug cartels.
In the past few decades, more than 90,000 people have gone missing in Mexico, and hundreds of thousands have been murdered, including not only civilians but also police and officials who stood against the drug trafficking groups.
In 2020 alone, more than 500 officers were killed, including a police officer who was honored as a drug-fighting hero by Mexico for his outstanding achievements in an anti-drug operation, and given a grand funeral. But the day after his funeral, his entire family was silenced by the drug cartel.
