Professor Sutton blinked, instantly chickening out. He hurriedly stood up and said, "Old Hale and Serena are both really busy, no need to send it and make them worry."
"Look at you, kid, seriously… I was just joking with you, how did you take it so seriously?"
As he spoke, Mr. Sutton quickly started cleaning the ashtray, obviously scared. Joke or not, if Old Hale saw he'd smoked this much, she'd kick him out of the house.
Seeing Old Sutton back down so fast, Norbert Suttun didn't dare push it either. He took a drink from the fridge, then sat at the dining table and started eating.
While eating, he took out his phone and sent a text to Serena Sutton. But that girl didn't reply right away.
The little girl had called when she arrived in Riverbend yesterday, but she hadn't called today to report she was safe. Is she really that busy? It's just some activity where she's doing manual labor for others, and she's taking it that seriously.
