Landon Ford covered his face with his hand, slightly bowing his head, and laughter seeped from his throat, carrying a chill of sarcasm.
The commotion outside did not stop with the boy's crying.
That one sentence seemed to have completely ignited the woman's fury, along with a taste of desolation: "You hate me, fine, you hate me! From the moment you were born, I've raised you for so many years, only to hear that you hate me!!"

Seeing Landon Ford laughing for no reason across from her, Thea Shaw felt he wasn't the type to laugh out loud at such a commotion, thinking there might be more to it. She curiously asked, "Do you know the people outside?"
