Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Heatstroke

Yan Zixuan not only governed Beihuang into a land of wealth, but also, beyond the troops given by the Emperor to quell the rebellion, took the opportunity to secretly recruit and train an army of two hundred thousand, which is precisely his ace up the sleeve.

Yan Zixuan must not go to Beihuang.

Upon recalling this plot, Li Yuyu anxiously asked, "Where is the Emperor?"

Hua Yin dared not reply.

"How insolent! I am asking you a question!" Li Yuyu was furious and shouted coldly.

Both Hua Yin and Feng Yin knelt to the ground simultaneously: "Concubine, please calm down."

Imperial Study.

Yan Xiu, in the middle of revising memorials, looked up: "Yu'er is here? Let her come in."

"Lady Li, please." Shen Quan personally invited Li Yuyu in, thoughtfully closing the door behind.

Li Yuyu approached Yan Xiu, glanced around, then placed a small stool with a golden soft cushion next to Yan Xiu's dragon throne and whispered, "Emperor, I have something I wish to discuss with you."

"What is it?" Yan Xiu replied in a deep voice.

Li Yuyu pursed her lips and said softly, "Emperor, could you possibly send someone else to Beihuang? Yan Zi..."

"Bang." Yan Xiu slammed the brush he was holding heavily onto the dragon desk.

Li Yuyu dared not raise her head to look at Yan Xiu's face, knowing he would overthink and get angry with what she was saying. Yet, she felt compelled to stop this matter: "Emperor, it's not for Yan Zixuan, I'm doing this for you..."

"Bang!" In a fit of rage, Yan Xiu threw the memorial he was holding at Li Yuyu's feet.

Startled, Li Yuyu slid down, kneeling on the floor. She bit her lip and continued, "Emperor, please believe me, I'm truly doing this for you, he..."

"Leave." Yan Xiu forcefully closed his eyes, and when he reopened them, the fleeting pain in his phoenix eyes was perfectly concealed.

"Emperor, to quell a rebellion requires military power, and Beihuang is so far away. Haven't you heard the saying, 'The sky is high, the Emperor is far...'"

"Leave!" Yan Xiu angrily interrupted Lady Li: "Shen Quan, issue my decree. The summer heat has affected Lady Li; she needs to rest quietly in Luaxin Pavilion for several days. Without my decree, no one is allowed to disturb her!"

"The servant obeys." Shen Quan, who had long been apprehensively awaiting outside, immediately entered and knelt down to receive the decree.

"Lady Li, you are unwell. I have summoned the Jade Carriage, please follow me this way." Shen Quan bowed in respect.

Li Yuyu stood up from the ground, her face still pale from the shock. She took one last look at Yan Xiu, whose face was dark with anger, pressed her wildly beating chest, and left the Imperial Study.

"Emperor." Shen Quan picked up the memorial from the ground and offered it respectfully beside Yan Xiu's dragon desk.

Yan Xiu saw the contents displayed on the memorial: Beihuang is rife with marauding bandits, burning, injuring, and looting, the populace is tirelessly disturbed...

"Preposterous!" Yan Xiu swept all the memorials on the table to the ground forcefully.

With a "plop," Shen Quan knelt on the ground: "Emperor, please calm down, Emperor, please calm down!"

Who the reprimand was directed at, Shen Quan dared not even guess.

"Calm down?" Yan Xiu sneered: "How can I calm down?"

He is the ruler of the Dasheng Dynasty, the Emperor, yet he is being toyed with in the palm of a woman's hand.

He actually believed Li Yuyu's words, trusted that she had let go of the past with Yan Zixuan, and was willing to move forward hand in hand with him, but the moment she heard Yan Zixuan was going to Beihuang to quell the chaos, she immediately lost her composure.

Good! Well done!

He was laughable too! Knowing it was a lie yet still considering it true, truly laughable to the extreme!
