Chapter 139 - Chapter 139 — The Deflection

The battlefield was a maelstrom of chaos, light, and shadow. The remnants of destroyed buildings, cracked streets, and twisted metal floated in fractured silence, suspended by the violent aura fluctuations of the combatants. Dust and sparks swirled in the air, making it nearly impossible to distinguish friend from foe.

Ishita was still on her knees, drained from overexertion. Her scarlet aura flickered, weak and unstable, but she was alive. Li Wei's wind currents maintained a protective barrier around her, keeping her safe from the Lord Ghost Demon's lingering shadow attacks. His golden eyes were sharp, calculating the trajectory of every stray debris and lingering projectile. He was tense. Too tense.

And then… he saw it.

A sphere. Massive. Dense. Pulsing with concentrated shadow energy. The Lord Ghost Demon's signature attack. It was a living weapon, coalescing darkness into a sphere that seemed capable of erasing everything in its path.

Li Wei's heart sank. Time seemed to slow. Every instinct in his body screamed the same warning: This is it. This is the end.

He leaped forward, trying to intercept the sphere with a concentrated wind barrier, but he could already feel the strain. His aura had been stretched to its limits. Every barrier, every strike, every defensive maneuver in the last minutes had drained him. He could not withstand the full force of this attack.

"It's… it's too strong…" he muttered under his breath. His hands trembled slightly as he tried to focus, but the sphere was moving faster than any calculations could predict.

Ishita's eyes widened. "Li Wei! Move! You can't—"

But her warning was cut off by the violent pulse of energy as the sphere barreled forward. The wind currents around Li Wei strained, groaning under the pressure. He felt the weight of inevitability pressing down on him. For the first time, doubt crept into his mind. He couldn't stop it. There was no way he could—

Then, a streak of blue fire cut through the chaos like a comet tearing across the sky.

Akira.

The boy, the weapon wielder, the unbroken storm of vengeance, had leapt into the path of the sphere. His blue flames roared, wrapping around his body like a living armor. Every movement he made was deliberate, precise, and unflinching.

The sphere struck Akira's aura directly.

There was a violent explosion. Shadows and blue flames collided, tearing through the already fractured battlefield. The shockwave sent Li Wei sprawling backward, debris slamming into him from all directions. Ishita screamed, scrambling to her feet, her vision blurred by dust and sparks.

When the dust cleared slightly, Akira stood between them and the remnants of the sphere. His sword was raised, flames curling around the blade like serpents of light. The sphere had been deflected, redirected—collapsing harmlessly into the ruins behind Kaerath.

Kaerath's crimson eyes widened in surprise. His body scorched, one arm bloodied and damaged from the redirected impact. His four fists clenched, shaking with restrained fury. "Impossible…" he muttered. "No human should have survived that."

The Lord Ghost Demon's shadow aura rippled violently. He had intended to strike the final blow, to crush Ishita and Li Wei entirely. Yet here was Akira, battered and injured, holding the line with nothing but sheer force of will.

Li Wei staggered to his knees, his wind currents dissipating slightly. He wiped blood and dust from his mouth, eyes wide. "Akira…" he breathed, disbelief mingled with awe. "You… you saved us…"

Ishita's knees trembled as she steadied herself. Her scarlet aura flickered, barely stable, but she managed a weak smile. "He… he saved us…"

Akira did not respond. His flames flared higher, consuming the smoke and debris around him. His remaining eye glimmered beneath the blue blaze, burning with a mixture of rage, determination, and the unyielding will of someone who had faced death and emerged stronger.

Kaerath growled, lifting his bloodied arm. "So… this is the boy who defies death itself. Very well. Let us see how much more he can endure."

The Lord Ghost Demon's shadows rippled outward again, but Akira's presence had shifted the battlefield entirely. His blue flames expanded, a living storm of energy that warped the air, disrupted the Lord Ghost Demon's attack patterns, and forced Kaerath to reconsider each movement.

Li Wei pushed himself to his feet, aura flaring as he regained composure. "We can't waste this opportunity," he muttered, casting a glance at Ishita. "Ishita… we have to coordinate. Now."

Ishita nodded, her aura pulsing faintly in response to Li Wei's wind currents. Though exhausted, she drew strength from Akira's intervention. They could act, they could fight, they could survive this moment.

Akira's voice cut through the battlefield, calm but commanding: "Form up. We end this together. No hesitation."

Li Wei's mind clicked into strategy mode. With Ishita supporting his flank and Akira leading the offense, they could create a coordinated strike that might push the demons back decisively.

Kaerath's red flames surged, his fists blazing, as he lunged toward Akira. The Lord Ghost Demon moved toward Li Wei and Ishita simultaneously, intent on exploiting any weakness. The battlefield vibrated under their power, every step leaving scorched marks and fissures.

Akira's blue flames swirled, intercepting Kaerath's first strike with a single swing of his sword. The clash sent shockwaves into the surrounding debris, tossing fragments into the air like shrapnel. He countered immediately, his blue flames driving Kaerath backward.

Li Wei and Ishita moved as one, their attacks synchronized. Wind and scarlet energy combined, striking the Lord Ghost Demon's shadows in a precise pattern designed to destabilize his form. The demon hissed, twisting to defend, and the sphere of darkness that had threatened them moments ago was already disintegrating from the pressure of their combined assault.

Akira's blue flame sword swung again, striking Kaerath's chest. The demon staggered, blood and burns marking his torso, but he did not fall. His grin was twisted, angry, and calculating. "You… dare challenge me with that?"

Akira's eye burned beneath the flame, unwavering. "I dare because I must. I fight because I cannot fail."

The Lord Ghost Demon's eyes narrowed, realizing the tide had shifted. The trio had survived the sphere attack, recalibrated, and now pressed the assault with renewed precision. Their combined efforts were not reckless—they were strategic, deadly, and synchronized.

Kaerath growled and the Lord Ghost Demon hissed. Both apex forces recoiled slightly, reassessing the threat. Akira's intervention had not only saved his allies—it had shifted the balance of the battle.

And in that moment, Li Wei realized something crucial. "We can win this," he whispered, determination flaring in his eyes. "We have to. We can win this… because Akira is still standing."

Ishita's hands tightened on her blade. "Yes… we can. We have to…"

Akira, burning in blue flames, led the charge forward. They moved as one—trio, coordinated, unstoppable.

The battlefield trembled under the might of their combined aura. Dust and debris spiraled in chaotic patterns, but the trio stood firm, ready to face whatever the Lord Ghost Demon and Kaerath threw at them next.

The fight was far from over. But for now, Akira's intervention had bought them a moment—a chance to survive, regroup, and strike back with everything they had left.

And no one would falter again.
