Chapter 124 - Chapter 124 – The First Blood

The ruins of Tokyo were a chaos of smoke, fire, and shattered concrete. The ground trembled with every movement of Kaerath, the Fused Upper Demon, whose presence alone made the air tremble. Dust and fragments floated midair, suspended by the weight of raw power. Akira, Ethan, and Hyejin stood their ground, though their bodies screamed in protest, battered and bloodied from relentless assault.

Kaerath's twin heads glared down at the trio with an almost lazy contempt.

"You continue to fight… how tedious," Kaerath murmured, voice deep and mocking.

Hyejin's frost aura flickered weakly, shards of ice barely forming around her as she staggered on a floating fragment of debris. Her breaths were shallow, each inhalation rattling like fragile glass.

"We… we won't give up," Hyejin whispered, frost flickering weakly, but determination burning in her eyes.

Akira's cursed sword glimmered in his hands, dark energy humming as he swung at Kaerath's bone-armored body. Sparks flew, but Kaerath barely moved, sidestepping with an ease that made their efforts look insignificant. Ethan's golden aura flared, Solar Nova Strike ripping through the air, scorching Kaerath's plague arm, yet even the attack seemed trivial to the demon.

"You think this is enough?" Kaerath's voice echoed, calm yet terrifying. "Even if you somehow survived me, Morgath awaits. Upper Rank 2… forty percent of the Lord's power. You will not live to see him."

Akira's jaw tightened. "Then we die trying!" he shouted, aura blazing as he readied another strike.

Kaerath raised all four arms simultaneously. The air around them rippled violently as if reality itself feared the blow. Shockwaves radiated outward, sending debris spinning like deadly projectiles. Hyejin conjured Moonlight Frost Spikes to deflect one of the fists, but the sheer force rattled her bones. Ethan's shield flared, golden light cascading outward to create a protective barrier around Hyejin.

"We… we can't hold him!" Hyejin gasped, frost aura flickering dangerously low.

Akira's eyes burned. "Then we fight smarter. Together!"

They launched a coordinated counterattack: Akira slashed at one of Kaerath's bone-plated arms, Ethan followed with a fiery Solar Nova Strike, and Hyejin sent a flurry of frost spikes at the twin heads. Kaerath's two heads snarled, deflecting effortlessly, but a faint shimmer of interest appeared in his crimson eyes.

"Bold," he murmured. "But bravery alone will not save you."

Kaerath tilted his heads in unison, releasing a sudden barrage of punches and swipes at breathtaking speed. The trio barely dodged, yet one fist connected with Ethan's head.

CRACK!

Ethan went flying, blood spraying from a deep gash across his forehead, golden aura flickering dangerously. He crashed against a broken skyscraper fragment, skidding across jagged rubble.

"Ethan!" Hyejin screamed, her frost aura flaring desperately as she tried to stabilize him.

Kaerath's four arms pivoted in a fluid, terrifying motion, throwing Hyejin backward. She slammed against a fractured pillar, frost aura shattering into splintered shards, barely holding herself upright.

"You are fragile… so very fragile," Kaerath murmured, voice cold, almost disappointed.

At that moment, a telepathic connection pulsed from the shadows. The Lord Ghost Demon's pale, menacing presence reached Kaerath.

"Stop playing. Finish them."

Kaerath's eyes glimmered with dark amusement. He had been restraining himself, but the order had awakened his true intent.

Kaerath inhaled deeply, his aura shifting. Black-green energy rippled across his body, swirling with a terrifying intensity that warped the very air. His four arms lifted simultaneously, fingers curling like claws ready to tear through flesh and bone.

Hyejin's frost aura faltered as she felt the surge, vision blurring. Akira tightened his grip on his cursed sword, dark energy coiling around it in anticipation. Ethan struggled to stand, golden aura flickering weakly but refusing to die out.

"This… this is it," Akira whispered, voice low but unwavering. "We face him… fully."

Kaerath roared — a sound that shook the air, the ground, and the very fragments of the ruined city. The aura around him exploded outward, a wave of raw destructive power that distorted space and rattled the warriors' bones.

"You will not survive this," Kaerath growled, each word a physical weight pressing down upon them.

The trio braced for the onslaught. Hyejin's frost aura formed jagged spikes around her body, Akira's cursed sword glowed with dark intent, and Ethan's golden light formed a shield of desperation.

"We survive… or we die together!" Akira yelled, aura surging, defiance blazing against the demon's oppressive presence.

Kaerath's eyes glimmered, twin heads watching intently as if savoring the moment.

"Then let us see… who bleeds first," Kaerath whispered, voice almost predatory.

The first wave of attacks hit. The ground shattered under the force of Kaerath's fists, debris tearing through the air like missiles. Hyejin narrowly blocked a crushing strike, frost aura cracking under the pressure. Akira's sword met Kaerath's bone arm, sparks flying as the demon's aura pressed against the cursed steel.

Ethan staggered to his feet, golden aura pulsing, shielding Hyejin as another punch slammed into the rubble beside them. The force rattled his bones, yet he refused to collapse.

"We can… we can endure this," Hyejin muttered through gritted teeth, frost aura flickering as she conjured new shards.

Kaerath's four arms moved with terrifying synchronization — a deadly symphony of destruction. Every swing, every strike, was calculated to overwhelm and crush their defenses.

"You are ants before me… and yet, you bite," Kaerath murmured, aura flaring, his true killing intent now fully unleashed.

The battlefield shook violently, dust and shards spiraling in all directions. Every breath, every movement required absolute focus and unwavering will. Akira, Hyejin, and Ethan faced the full might of Kaerath — and for the first time, the gap between human and demon became undeniable.
