Chapter 123 - Chapter 123 – The Ghost and the Warriors

The air above Tokyo trembled with unnatural energy. Fragments of buildings floated aimlessly, suspended in the weightless chaos created by the Ghost Demon's expanding dimensions. Shadows twisted, sharp and alive, as though they were extensions of the demon's will. The sky was a canvas of blue and scarlet energy colliding with void-black distortions, painting a battlefield where nothing was stable and everything threatened to collapse.

Li Wei's azure aura burned fiercely, illuminating the surrounding debris. His hands moved in precise arcs, summoning energy blades that cut through fragments of warped space. Ishita's crimson aura flared in perfect synchronization, firing Scarlet Cataclysm Beams that sliced arcs of light through the ever-shifting void.

"We need to break through his rift layers!" Li Wei shouted, eyes narrowed as he dodged a sudden barrage of shadow shards.

The Ghost Demon's pale face remained calm, almost disinterested, as he shifted his focus effortlessly. With a wave of his hands, the multiple dimensional layers rippled outward, forcing Li Wei and Ishita to adapt instantly.

"Your efforts amuse me, little mortals," the Ghost Demon whispered, his voice echoing across dimensions. "But they are meaningless. Child's play."

Ishita's hands trembled slightly as she adjusted her aim, scarlet beams piercing one collapsing layer. "We can't let him trap us completely… hold your focus, Li Wei!"

"I'm with you," Li Wei replied, aura surging, energy blades spinning like a deadly storm around him.

The Ghost Demon's eyes narrowed, a flicker of interest appearing in the shadow of his pale face. He twisted reality with a subtle gesture, shifting layers of warped space to intersect in unpredictable ways. For a moment, Li Wei and Ishita were disoriented, their attacks meeting empty voids where enemies should have been.

"Don't falter!" Ishita yelled, adjusting her aim as her aura flared brighter.

The duo moved in perfect coordination, striking the precise points where the dimensional layers overlapped, forcing the Ghost Demon to react for the first time. A soft growl escaped his throat, barely audible, but significant. Even this ancient, terrifying being was being tested.

Every strike Li Wei and Ishita executed demanded maximum concentration. The Ghost Demon's aura shifted constantly, black energy seeping into every corner of their perception, twisting space around them.

"I… I feel it," Li Wei said, sweat running down his temple. "He's… barely moving, and yet I can feel the pull of his power everywhere!"

Ishita's eyes were wide, aura pulsing in intense waves. "He hasn't even lifted his feet fully… and we're already exhausted just keeping up."

The Ghost Demon raised both hands, and the surrounding dimensions began rotating violently, sharp shards of warped space slicing toward them like blades. Even a single scratch could pierce through their aura shields. Li Wei dove forward, energy blades intercepting a fragment, while Ishita unleashed a torrent of beams to disperse another.

"We fight because we have no choice," Li Wei muttered, voice steady despite the danger.

"We survive because we refuse to die here," Ishita added, crimson aura lighting her determined gaze.

The Ghost Demon tilted his head, his expression neutral yet undeniably aware of their defiance.

Li Wei noticed a pattern in the dimensional shifts. The Ghost Demon's movements, while near-instantaneous, repeated subtly across overlapping layers. He shared a glance with Ishita.

"Ishita… we hit the intersection points! Focus your beams where the layers overlap!"

Ishita's aura flared like a burning sun, beams slashing through multiple dimensions at once. Li Wei's energy blades carved through space, destabilizing fragments that had previously been untouchable.

The Ghost Demon hissed softly, a chilling sound that resonated through the void. For the first time, he moved deliberately, dodging with precision. His fingers traced arcane symbols in the air, attempting to close the gaps Li Wei and Ishita exploited.

"He's adjusting! We need to press harder!" Li Wei shouted, aura intensifying.

The duo's combined assault became a storm of light and energy, each strike coordinated perfectly to counter the demon's unpredictable spatial manipulation. They were pushing a being who had mocked all warriors before them — yet the cost was clear. Their movements were exhausting, every pulse of aura draining reserves that might not be replenished.

The battlefield was not just physical; it weighed heavily on the mind. Every shift of the Ghost Demon's dimensional layers distorted their perception of space. Fragments floated in impossible angles, threatening to slice their own allies accidentally.

"Li Wei… it's… it's like the world is tearing apart," Ishita whispered, sweat mixing with blood on her cheek.

"Focus, Ishita. Remember why we're here. Humanity doesn't give up," Li Wei replied, aura flaring with a blue radiance that stabilized a collapsing fragment beneath them.

The Ghost Demon laughed softly, almost mockingly, sensing their strain.

"Such resolve… yet such futility. Do you think mere determination can defy the inevitable?"

Ishita clenched her teeth, aura burning brighter. "We don't care. If determination is all we have… then we'll wield it like a weapon!"

Li Wei nodded, aura blazing. "Then let's cut through this nightmare together!"

The Ghost Demon expanded the dimensional layers again, now twisting them in ways that made navigation almost impossible. Every move required precision, timing, and synchronization. One misstep could be fatal.

Li Wei and Ishita fought back, auras flaring, energy clashing with darkness at blinding speed. The sky itself seemed to shudder under the force of their clash, shards of city streets and debris floating like meteors through the dimensional chaos.

"Keep pushing! We've got him reacting!" Li Wei shouted, dodging a rotating void-shard aimed at Ishita.

"I'm with you! We can't let up!" Ishita yelled back, Scarlet Cataclysm Beams striking through multiple layers, destabilizing fragments in rapid succession.

Even the Ghost Demon's patience was thinning. For a being who had spanned centuries, his calculated movements now carried a hint of caution. Li Wei and Ishita were pushing a level of offense he hadn't expected from mere humans.

"Interesting," the Ghost Demon murmured, aura rippling. "Perhaps… you are worth my full attention."

The battle raged on — chaotic, perilous, and unrelenting. Every pulse of energy, every arc of light, and every fragment of warped space tested the limits of Li Wei and Ishita's strength, skill, and endurance.
