The lights in the private quarters of Midnight Mayhem flickered softly as Pamela, Harley, and Barbara stepped out of the bedroom together, their hair tousled and robes loosely tied. The air smelled faintly of perfume. Standing right outside the door was Kira Strix, perfectly composed in her black uniform. She stood at attention like a soldier waiting for orders.
Pamela adjusted her robe and met Kira's steady gaze. "Kira, do you have a report for us?"
Kira nodded once. "Yes, Pamela. I've got good news and bad news."
Pamela crossed her arms, the robe falling just enough to show her shoulder. "Let's start with the good. News"
Kira moved through her tablet, the glow lighting up her face. "The good news is that Batman investigated the death of Dr. Woodrue and the burning of the lab building at Gotham University. According to our surveillance feeds, he found no clues."
Pamela's lips curved into a confident smile. "That's to be expected, Kira. Now—what's the bad news?"
Kira's expression darkened. "According to our intelligence department at Midnight Industries and Midnight Mayhem, Carmine Falcone, Gotham's mafia boss, has learned that we annexed this entire area from one of his subordinates you killed."
Harley snapped her fingers. "Yeah! That's the guy I whacked the other day, right?"
Kira nodded. "Yep, that's him. Unfortunately, Falcone's started sending his men to pressure some of our business operations within Midnight Industries territory."
Pamela's eyes narrowed. "So he's moving against us already, is he?"
Kira nodded again. "Several of our henchmen have been attacked. A few were killed. I wanted to retaliate immediately, but since I'm a professional and you pay me, I waited for your command."
Barbara's mouth twitched in faint amusement. "See, that's the difference between paid and free labor. Paid henchwomen actually think before they act."
Pamela nodded in agreement. "You're right." She turned back to Kira. "So they killed some of our men?"
Kira tapped her tablet. "Yes. Luckily, none of our high ranking henchwomen were compromised. The ones they got to didn't know any of their superiors' identities."
Pamela smiled faintly, her tone low and approving. "That's the beauty of our system. The men they killed didn't even know who their bosses are. Compartmentalized control means no leaks, even in death."
Kira lowered her tablet. "Still, we need to retaliate. What are your plans to deal with Carmine Falcone, Pamela?"
Pamela walked across the room, the hem of her robe brushing against the polished floor as she approached the strategy table. The holographic map of Gotham came to life, showing red zones marked with Midnight Mayhem's territories and blue ones belonging to Falcone.
"Simple," she said, tracing her finger along the map. "We take over Gotham's entire criminal underworld. If we eliminate Carmine Falcone, we can rule everything—and maybe even keep him as a puppet. Let him remain the public face while we control him from the shadows."
Barbara frowned. "That's risky. If Batman catches him and drops him off a rooftop again, Falcone will sing like a canary. He always does."
Harley leaned against the wall, twirling a strand of blonde hair. "That's true. He folds faster than a clown balloon. Every time Batman needs info, Carmine spills his guts."
Pamela tapped her chin thoughtfully, eyes half-lidded as she considered their words. "Hmm. A conundrum indeed…"
The silence stretched for a moment. Then Pamela's expression shifted—soft amusement melting into something colder. She looked up at Kira, her voice calm but edged with steel. "I suppose keeping him alive would be a liability."
Kira tilted her head. "Then what's your command, Pamela?"
Pamela's lips curved slowly into a dark smile. "I guess we'll just kill him."
