Barbara looked down both ends of the hallway, her eyes glowing faintly with the reflection of her nanite interface. "Clear," she whispered. Then Pamela lifted her leg and kicked the door with a burst of force that sent it flying inwards. The heavy steel slammed against the wall with a thunderous BANG! as the entire doorframe shook. Pamela walked through the smoke from the splintered hinges, her expression cold and steady. All the vitality her plants have absorbed over the past few months have strengthened Pamela to near-superhuman levels, and now her every movement carries explosive power.
Dr. Jason Woodrue jerked his head up from his workstation, the glow of his monitors revealing shadows across his face. His eyes went wide as Pamela, Barbara, and Harley walked into the lab—Harley's with her wooden bat resting on her shoulder like a weapon she couldn't wait to use.
Woodrue's lips twisted. "Who the hell are you?"
Pamela's gaze locked on him. "What, you don't remember the human-plant hybrid you created months ago?"
The doctor froze, his hands trembling. Then he pointed at her and shouted, "No… it can't be. Pamela Isley and Barbara Gordon?!"
His shock turned to glee in an instant. He threw his head back and began laughing, wild and high-pitched. "You actually walked into my lair a second time, you foolish girls! You came here to meet your own demise right! Excellent! Now I won't have to start my research over from the beginning. I didn't want to abduct you again with all the police and security around you two but now, now you've walked right into my grasp!"
He stepped back, spreading his arms theatrically toward a side chamber. "Behold my newest creations abducted from the local wolf population!"
A low growl rolled through the lab, and then five monstrous shapes burst into view. They were wolves twisted into a living nightmare: fur replaced with coarse vines, eyes glowing yellow, and ribs covered with bark and thorns. The creatures lunged forward, claws scraping the metal floor as they ran twoards the girls.
Woodrue's voice echoed with manic triumph. "Don't worry, I won't let my little minions kill you. I'll do that myself—after I extract what I need from your bodies!"
Barbara exhaled heavily and glanced toward Pamela. "Looks like he's making plant-based creatures again."
Pamela's eyes narrowed. "All right, let's deal with these mutts quickly and then move on to Woodrue."
Harley stepped forward, gripping her bat. "Ooh, ooh! Let me practice something I've been working on during our training sessions!"
Pamela looked at Barbara, who nodded once. "Okay, Harley," they said together. "Go ahead and try your idea."
Harley twirled her bat dramatically but stopped just short of swinging it. "I bet you're expecting me to use my bat… but no, no, no." She spread her hands in front of her face in a clownish pose. "You know my spontaneous clown-themed generation powers right? Watch this!"
Her fingers flexed. "Oops."
A grand piano materialized above the charging wolves, black and massive. It crashed down with a wet, bone-shattering SQUELCH! Two of the wolves were obliterated on impact, crushed beneath the three-ton instrument.
Pamela blinked. Barbara froze. The lab went silent except for the slow creak of the piano settling. Then Pamela's shoulders shook with quiet laughter. "Harley… that was fucking awesome."
Harley twirled in place, proud. "Told you! I've been practicing. Now I can materialize clown-themed items over enemies and crush them mercilessly. I'm just sad an anvil didn't show up this time—but hey, a grand piano works."
She spun the bat over her shoulder. "I'll leave the other three to you!"
Pamela nodded. "All right." She raised her hand, voice low. "You're up, dear."
The ground beneath one wolf split open. With a thick vine burst upwards, coiling around the creature mid-leap. It yelped and clawed wildly, its jaws biting uselessly against the plant fiber as the vine pulsed, draining his life energy away. Pamela's body trembled faintly as the vitality surged through her. "Mmm… what a great snack."
The wolf's body shriveled into a gray husk before collapsing onto the tiles, lifeless and dry.
Barbara tilted her head. "You're having too much fun with this, Pamela. My turn."
Her palms lit up with crackling electricity. Two spheres of blue-white lightning formed in her hands, humming with restrained power. She stepped forward and hurled both lighting balls at once.
The balls hit their marks with two deafening explosions. BOOM! BOOM! The last two wolves' skulls detonated in bursts of flames and smoke, their bodies collapsing into twitching heaps before finally going still. The air filled with the smell of cooked wolf stew.
