Han Yan turned toward the direction of the voice, then glanced at Wei Jun.
The smile on his face was gone as he stopped walking.
The middle-aged man came strolling up the road hands clasped behind his back. His coat was clean and dyed a respectable blue but the cuffs had been darned twice.
His round face might have looked genial on someone else. On him it looked greased.
His eyes were small and set too close together. They slid over the two of them, observing quietly.
His thin lips curled into a smile that stopped short of those eyes.
Han Yan disliked him on sight.
"Aiya, it really is you." The man spread his hands warmly. "Years without a word, look how you've grown. I nearly didn't recognize you. Hunting suits you, though it's a hard trade for so little reward."
"Second Uncle," Wei Jun said evenly. The title was correct, and the voice was as warm as a stone.
"Is that all you have for me?" The man sighed theatrically and shook his head.
