Chapter 25 - Lunae

Soon Kleos found himself walking alongside Adam outside the cobblestone wall that had been surrounding the village. He had been instructed to focus on his hearing more than any other sense. As that would be the best way to realize that they were either in the range of a monster or that a monster was in range of them.

That night Kleos saw two beasts, both white-hearted, get killed, one by Adam and the other by another guard who Adam had his shift with. And they returned right after finishing their shift at 3 am. Just like that Kleos passed out on his bed without a single thought.

***

Kleos jumped up at the sound of metal bashing against each other. Only to his head terribly on the pan, which Adam had been resting right above Kleos's head. Creating another ringing sound.

"AHkgh."

"There you are, finally awake. Go eat food until it's completely cold."

"W-what time is it?" asked Kleos, still dizzy and feeling around for a bump. "Also, WHY DID YOU DO THAT?!"

"It's 9 am, and because you weren't waking up. I have to train you how to survive; otherwise, you'll get ambushed in your sleep and die. This way you might be a bit more awake when sleeping. And don't even ask me why I'm not letting you sleep more."

Still grumbling, Kleos got up and put on a light brown fabric, which had no sleeves, and tied it with a belt across his stomach. Along with black pants, which were very soft but felt really similar to the fabric that he was so used to back in his original world.

I do enjoy the fashion of this world. Thought Kleos with a joyous smile. Also, what the hell does it mean to be awake while sleeping? Thought Kleos while his joy disappeared completely.

Even though Kleos was crumbling and complaining in his head, this was a common practice at war. And something he had extensively trained in. But the child's body had not trained in it nor had the muscle memory or heightened senses that his original body had. He would have to relearn it. Thankfully, I had a wonderfully cruel teacher this time as well.

After eating, they headed straight out into the training room, which was now basically a back yard since the wall had been retracted yesterday. With this, more targets were revealed, and there was a larger space.

The yard was surrounded by a wooden fence, and trees were growing in some parts, but there was barely any grass, most likely not growing due to frequent use and the fact that it was currently really cold.

"Alright, go pick up that bow I bought you, and show me what you've got."

Picking up the bow, it was almost the same size as Kleos', and from the looks of it, he wouldn't be able to use it. Since his arms were simply too short to draw the bow and launch an arrow.

I have encountered technical difficulties.

"Uhh, Sir Adam? I seem to be unable to draw the bow."

"I can see that, and stop trying to be funny." Said Adam, his eyes colder than usual.

This would happen every day, when Adam would be left to his thoughts, even for mere moments, which would be why he was always doing something. Which was why he had jumped back into work.

"Right, sorry," replied Kleos. "What should I do with this?" he asked even though he knew the answer.

"Well, you're gonna have to wait. Using the bow for now is impossible for you; instead, from today onwards, I'm mostly going to teach you how to use the sword and just train your magic." Said Adam and inhaled

"But for now, you're very young, even if you are mentally mature for whatever reason, whether it be because you're a demon or because you went through stuff. I think it best to not focus on magic theory and other school subjects, so really, I will be teaching you the sword and how to survive."

"But for now let's not waste time; just manifest your sword and come at me."

***

Everything hurts; I don't believe I have the ability to get out of bed and go patrol with Adam today.

Kleos was sprayed across the bed in a star shape, refusing to even lift his torn fingers. His mana was emptied, and he was sore. There were also multiple bruises across his beaten body.

I should tell this guy that I'm a royal so he doesn't keep beating the shit out of me. Summon the royal army on his depressed ass.

"Hehe hehe, that would be fun." Laughed Kleos aloud

"Are you thinking of beating me up again? You know that's impossible and going to make your beating tomorrow worse, right?"

Can this fucker read minds or something?

"No, sir, I would never think of anything like that."

"Well, whatever. I take it you're going to rot in bed and not come to patrol with me?" said Adam, sipping black coffee and leaning across Kleos's bed frame. \

"No, sir, I'm ever so slightly tired."

"You're gonna receive a worse beating tomorrow for being sarcastic again."

"I would love that; thank you for your generosity, Sir."

"… You really should keep your mouth shut sometimes, you know?"

"Yes, I know, sir."

"That was a rhetorical question, smarty."

"I also know that, sir."

"Haaa, Lunae, this kid."

"Lunae? "What's that, sir?"

"That's one of the nine gods which I worship."

"Nine gods?"

"Yeah, I'll teach you later, when the time comes for history and other studies. For now, take a nap or something."

This guy really is a dad, the way he dropped lore just now. I had no idea there were nine gods this world worshipped. But he did say that he's only worshipping one. How's that work? He believes in all nine but only worships one. Strange.
