He nodded. His sharp eyes, the assessment, were grave.
"He is supreme," he said. His voice was quiet. The admission, the acknowledgment of a power that exceeded everything he knew, was delivered. "The strongest you can find."
He paused. His scholarly face, the caveat, the qualification, was added.
"But it does not matter," he said. "There were ancestors who were hidden and stronger than him."
The words, the reassurance, the attempt to diminish the Emperor's power, to make him seem less absolute, were the words of a man trying to comfort himself. To convince himself that there were beings above Tianlong. That the Emperor was not invincible.
She blinked. Her warm eyes, the thought, the processing, was there.
