Looking around, he saw a young man with disheveled hair, a scruffy beard, and the reek of alcohol.
Every movement, every posture, every expression of the young man screamed one word: despair.
Indeed, the young man was at the absolute nadir of despair.
In broad daylight, he couldn't even be bothered to change out of his pajamas, slouched on the sofa like a puddle of mud, still clutching a bottle of liquor.
At his feet lay several empty bottles.
This young man was none other than one of the world's most powerful Mutants, and one of the future leaders of the Mutant community: Professor X.
No, it was more appropriate to call him Charles Xavier now.
After all, the Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, which had only recently been founded, had already been abandoned!
It wasn't that Charles couldn't carry on himself, but rather because the damn government had forcibly sent his Mutant students to the battlefield.
To make matters worse, Erik, whom he considered a brother, had parted ways with him, even taking Raven, who was like a sister to him and had grown up with them.
These multiple blows had completely shattered Charles.
If Hank hadn't stayed by his side, caring for him faithfully, Charles felt he might have starved to death.
*Gulp!*
He raised the bottle in his hand and took another swig of the strong liquor before turning his attention back to the diary in front of him.
He tilted his head, trying to recall when this diary had been placed here.
It definitely hadn't been here before, had it?
But Charles didn't dwell on it. He simply shouted, "Hank! Hank!"
"What is it, Charles?"
Hank rushed in immediately, cautiously checking Charles's condition. He instinctively assumed the effects of his medication had worn off and he needed another injection.
But a quick glance revealed that didn't seem to be the case.
"This..."
Charles pointed at the diary in front of him, about to ask Hank if he had left it there.
Suddenly, he fell silent.
He was experiencing the same "symptom" as other diary holders when they first obtained their diaries.
This thoroughly frightened Hank, who worried Charles was having another episode.
Fortunately, after several such incidents, Charles had discovered the truth: as long as he didn't try to reveal the diary, he would be fine.
During one of these episodes, Charles accidentally touched the diary.
Instantly, a digital diary was projected into his mind.
Even after drinking heavily, Charles sobered up instantly.
Though he didn't know what the diary was, it was clearly not Hank's.
"I'm fine. Maybe I just had a few too many."
"Go do what you need to do. Don't worry about me."
Having figured it all out, Charles waved Hank away.
Hank pondered for a moment, assuming Charles was simply drunk and acting out. He didn't pay it much attention.
"Charles, if you can, try to drink less of that stuff."
Hank spoke from genuine concern. As Charles's closest friend and comrade in their shared victory over the Black King's conspiracy, seeing him like this truly pained Hank.
"This is my home. I'll drink as much as I want in my own house," Charles retorted, refusing to take the advice.
They had had this same conversation countless times before. Hank hadn't held out much hope anyway. He shook his head, sighed, and left on his own.
What Hank didn't notice was that as soon as his back was turned, Charles set down the bottle and a thoughtful expression crossed his face.
*What exactly is this Diary?*
*Why does it possess such miraculous power?*
*Could this be the work of some Mutant?*
As one of the world's foremost Mutant experts, Charles had taught countless Mutants to unlock their powers and was himself a genetic researcher.
Yet he had never encountered a Mutant capable of projecting their abilities onto other objects.
*Could it be that I'm under a hallucination?*
The evidence was clear: Hank couldn't see the Diary he was looking at.
Not to mention, his own mind was also being affected.
*It must be so.*
Someone was indeed casting a hallucination on him. There must be a psychic Mutant nearby.
In the past, Charles, a powerhouse of psychic abilities, would have been fearless, instantly counteracting the threat.
His mental prowess was so formidable that, apart from the White Queen, he had never truly met an equal.
But now...
To regain the ability to walk, Charles had injected himself with a serum developed by Hank.
While he no longer needed his wheelchair, the serum had suppressed his Mutant powers.
Now, he was helpless, completely at the mercy of this psychic Mutant.
Yet even so, Charles was exhilarated.
This was no easy feat.
He had thought all the mutants were fighting on the battlefield, their fates unknown. To his surprise, he had encountered another mutant.
Regardless of who this person was, the fact that they had chosen to contact him in this manner meant they must have a specific purpose.
*Zhou Cheng?*
*Is this mutant named Zhou Cheng?*
Charles racked his brain, but couldn't recall any mutant he knew by that name.
*Well, that doesn't matter.*
What mattered was that another mutant had contacted him.
Charles perked up and entered the Diary interface.
At that moment, he sensed chat invitations from other Diaries.
*What are we waiting for?*
With a thought, Charles immediately accepted them, establishing connections with the others.
*Hello, interdimensional friend! I'm Tony Stark!*
The other party sent a text greeting.
*Interdimensional? What the hell is that?*
Charles was momentarily puzzled, but had no time to dwell on it. He replied in kind.
*I'm Charles Xavier.*
Charles responded immediately.
*Charles Xavier?*
Inside his luxurious villa, Tony immediately fell into deep thought. He had never heard the name Charles Xavier before.
It was impossible to glean anything from the name alone.
"Jarvis," the playboy immediately commanded, ordering his AI to search for the name Charles Xavier and see if anything turned up.
There was no choice. The daily limit for cross-dimensional "internet" chats was a mere 200 characters, including punctuation. Tony had to be as economical with his words as possible.
If he could find the information himself, he wouldn't waste a single character.
"Sir, I've found 110,000 Charles Xaviers, but they are all ordinary people with no distinguishing features," Jarvis replied almost instantly.
Unfortunately, this was not a useful result.
There was nothing left to do but ask the person directly.
"Based on the usual pattern, you must be a superhero. Do you have a codename?"
"I'm the Destroyer. What about you?" Tony asked again.
Superhero?
Charles shook his head and couldn't help but chuckle self-mockingly.
*Hero?*
He might have been considered one before, having after all prevented a nuclear crisis.
But now, he looked as disheveled as a homeless man.
"Destroyer? That's a bit too flashy, don't you think?"
Charles smiled but didn't reveal his nickname.
After all, he didn't really have one.
At most, Raven had given him the nickname "Professor X" when they teamed up to fight the Black King.
But now?
Raven had abandoned him, the school had closed, and he was no longer a professor.
In fact, the title itself was a painful reminder for Charles, one he didn't want to dwell on.
Tony didn't press the matter further, instead trying to learn more about Charles's world from other angles.
He asked for the codename of Charles's universe, but as expected, Charles didn't know.
He also inquired about any well-known supernatural events in Charles's world.
"Supernatural?"
Charles frowned slightly. "I don't know what you're talking about. Do you mean Mutants? What exactly are you trying to get at?"
Mutants!
Tony's spirit immediately lifted.
The Diary had mentioned this group numerous times, even hinting at a connection between the Marvel-based universe and the X-Men universe.
For this reason, both Playboy and the other Diary holders attached great importance to Mutants. They had even secretly hoped the Diary would reveal more information about them.
Unfortunately, because Mutants didn't exist in their own universes, the Diary rarely mentioned them.
Tony never expected that, out of the blue, another Mutant holder would emerge. This was undoubtedly a good thing.
"Are there Mutants in your world?" Tony asked Charles with great enthusiasm. "Have you heard of Professor X or Magneto?"
Charles grew increasingly bewildered and impatient with Tony's questions. "Excuse me, but what's your real purpose? We've been chatting for ages—isn't that enough?"
The moment Charles finished his response, he received a notification that he had reached the character limit and could no longer continue the conversation. After several failed attempts to resume, he reluctantly severed the connection.
"What a bizarre guy," Charles muttered, recalling the man named Tony Stark, who called himself the Destroyer.
Upon further reflection, Charles suspected that Tony was likely a newly awakened Mutant who hadn't yet learned to control his abilities.
This is why the conversation was abruptly cut off mid-sentence.
And because of this, the other party hadn't fully completed their identity transformation, still referring to it as "your world."
Subconsciously, they still saw themselves as ordinary people, distinct from Mutants.
For "Mutant" mentor Charles, this was nothing new.
In the past, he would have definitely invited the person to his school to guide them slowly.
But now, the school no longer existed.
Just as he was lost in thought, Charles froze.
New entries had appeared in the Diary.
Checking in—let's explore the X-Men universe!
This is another fascinating Super Hero world.
Professor X, Magneto, Wolverine, Cyclops, and the rest—they're no less formidable than the Avengers.
Even without considering Level 4 Mutants like Professor X and Magneto, some Level 3 Mutants could give the Avengers a run for their money.
Cyclops's laser eyes and Storm's weather control abilities could only be countered by the top-tier Avengers.
And what about the Level 4 Professor X and Magneto?
Based on Scarlet Witch's clashes with the Avengers, Professor X's mental abilities could sweep through the entire Avengers lineup.
Only a Dark Witch could resist him.
If Professor X had Cerebro, the Dark Witch would still be a formidable opponent.
After all, with Cerebro, Professor X could instantly kill everyone on Earth!
"The X-Men's world!"
"Satan really went to that world!"
The playboy in the luxurious villa immediately felt a surge of energy.
Although he hadn't received a definitive answer from Charles Xavier before, he was relieved that the Diary had provided confirmation, validating his suspicions.
There was just one thing that puzzled Tony slightly.
He had previously confirmed with Clark that diaries updated in other dimensions by Satan were normally invisible to other dimensions.
So why could he see this one, which had been updated in the X-Men's dimension?
In reality, this was mainly due to an unintentional act by Zhou Cheng's clone.
Because both Zhou Qing's original body and his clone could simultaneously connect to the Diary, the two dimensions became linked through their shared connection.
This allowed Tony in the Marvel world to view the Diary's contents from the X-Men's dimension.
Of course, there was no way Tony could have known about this.
But it didn't matter.
The important thing was that he could now see updates from another world!
Tony didn't dwell on such trivial matters, instead focusing his attention back on the Diary.
Hmm, Professor X, Magneto, Cyclops, Wolverine—all characters previously mentioned in the Diary.
They had long been on Tony's list of people to keep an eye on.
Yet, the playboy had never been able to gather more intelligence on them.
Until now, the Diary had provided more spoilers.
And officially confirmed: the X-Men were in no way inferior to the Avengers!
Tony now had a rough idea of the X-Men's true power level.
The Mutant power classification was also noteworthy.
Some of the stronger Level 3 Mutants required top-tier Avengers to handle, which further illustrated the point.
