Helice arranged the room, making it look as though nothing was taken. He then left with the scrolls, the book, and the crystal plaque, as those were the only items of value in the box.
Helice then located a secluded spot in the house and began going through their contents, first the two scrolls.
They seemed to be made from materials of goat skin, an incredibly rare material that would usually sell for up to a thousand gold coins each; that was an astronomical amount of money.
A thousand core coins was enough for a commoner family to live forever without having to work, if they did not spend lavishly.
As for why Amis would keep such valuable items under his bed, Helice found the answer incredibly simple: for commoners like them, owning valuable items was akin to harboring disaster.
Plus, most people in these parts didn't know what goat skin paper was. Helice only knew this because she was not from around here.
She wasn't too bothered about the quality of the paper, though, as goat skin paper was the material used by the magi to record valuable information.
This was normal among the magi community.
The contents on the scroll, however, were what had blown her mind.
Her mouth went watery the more she read. In the scroll was actual information on the principles of mind runes.
The scroll was encased inside a metallic canister, which meant she would have to shift more of its content out of the tube as she read.
After more than half an hour of reading and digesting the information, she found herself holding a two-meter-long and nine-inch-wide scroll.
And she wasn't even halfway there yet. Helice continued reading.
By the time she was done, the entirety of the scroll was unveiled; it was more than ten meters long.
She suddenly felt an intense wave of dizziness, as though she would collapse from exhaustion.
Naturally, she didn't know what caused this, but she still took a few moments to rest.
Following which, she dived into the next scroll.
This time, it was a set of five mind runes. The scroll detailed carving them in the psychic sea, something she now understood to a better degree, thanks to the first scroll.
In the second scroll, there were only five mind runes, which suggested that regular humans needed to master five mind runes to become an acolyte.
Of course, this was only a conjecture on her part; she actually had no way of knowing.
But given that Amis had been a rank 1 Magus and had a set of five mind runes, it made sense to think like this.
These were not the original form of this information; acolytes were not allowed to own them, so they resorted to copying them on goat skin paper.
Helice's guesses were spot on. Acolytes were only allowed to borrow books for a certain period of time, so they must copy the information on pieces of goat skin paper and then burn them afterwards.
This was the main reason Amis could not sell the goat skin paper, because recorded within their canvas was priceless information.
If word were to get out, he would be hunted down and killed. Information like this could only be traded among Maguss.
Helice, however, couldn't wait to begin trying out these mind runes, but first, she had to test out the other loot.
After all, there was still the crystal plaque and the book. She picked up the plaque first. After flipping it back and forth, there was nothing.
She then noticed a glint on the surface of the plaque. She then focused on its smooth surface, and to her shock, the crystal began to glow, and words then formed on its surface.
It had to be said that Helice was incredibly surprised; however, she instantly understood the use of the crystal plaque, because at this moment, Helice's eyes were glued to the string of characters currently displaying on its screen.
[PSYCHIC POWER: 3.001]
As for why the one after two zeros, she naturally had a few ideas as to why. Amis had previously mentioned that for humans, their psychic power would not increase after maturity.
This had to do with the fact that she had spent the last two hours studying magical principles. Like Amis had said, it had increased her by point zero, zero, and one.
Although this didn't sound like much, given that regular humans' psychic power was three their entire lives, point zero, zero, one was not so bad.
However, increasing it to six would not be easy, but Helice was not prepared to give up yet. Right now, she was like a predator that had tasted lamb.
Then, without hesitation, she opened the old book. From the first page alone, Helice couldn't help but imagine how old this book was.
Like the scroll, it was made from the same goat skin paper.
And goat skin paper was known for its durability, which was what made it the number one paper for a magus.
Each page could last for hundreds, if not thousands, of years, yet this book appeared to be much older, as the pages appeared to be smearing together.
Unlike the pages that were made from goat skin paper, the book cover seemed to be made from the bark of a tree, which, surprisingly, was still intact.
This made her wonder what kind of tree it was made of, since wood survived for less time in historical records.
The cover was jagged to the touch, as though it wasn't refined before it was used.
With a single turn, dust rose into the air, and the smell of ancientness assaulted her senses.
Runes appeared to have been etched on the cover of the book, but Helice couldn't understand them since her knowledge was severely lacking.
The brown canvas of the first page was empty, save for a few rows of words etched in black ink.
The words appeared to be a name, one that wasn't very common, at least to the original Helice.
The name seemed to have been dripped, as though when they were written, the writer had intentionally flipped the page, allowing the ink to slide down the page.
Helice had to admit it had a certain mysterious and ancient vibe to the atmosphere, scary even.
The words read, "Dark Magus Saresian's Notes."
These were actual notes from a real Magus, a planar master, and one capable of using real spell matrices and not mind runes.
Helice observed the first page for a bit before she moved to the next one.
On the next page was an actual portrait of a middle-aged man with long white beard and long silver-gray hair.
He was adorned in a long black robe with unusually long collars.
This was obviously Magus Saresian. He looked like a rich, titled nobleman from the medieval period back on Earth.
