Chapter 51 - Away from Frosted Peaks

We're nearing the end of Frosted Peaks; the mountain range was slowly diminishing, letting us see the plains that stretched far. An arduous journey was about to end, leading to another.

Everyone around me gave an anxious air, will they be fine? Or will they struggle again, a question that was brought to their minds. They even asked me, as if I knew this area like the back of my tail.

This party is too reliant… I let out a sigh, feeling my feet touch grass after so long. Even a week after living for five hundred years feels so long. I'm going to need a long needed break after I make it home. And I'll actually get some needed sleep tonight.

Just three days ago I only got a few hours of sleep, even after staying up for seventy-two hours. Fortunately, that allowed me to keep going.

Aside from my complaints, we were now at a beautiful sight, the sky had cleared— the sun was raining its rays onto the ground; despite the sky clouding just before us in the frosted peaks.

"Miss Shen, where's Yukina?"

"She's still back there, she's close." I said, raising my hand to our right and continued. "They will come from there, it'll be a couple days at most."

"Can't we go back there?!"

I let out a sigh, responding after sitting down on the ground. "There's a blizzard about to start. Even we, as adults, cannot make it through there."

"Th-"

"The kids can make it through it if they wait through the storm." Though knowing that kid, he's not going to wait most likely.

I got a few glares from everyone around me. Aside from Shaun, he was silent, staring at the ground. He was… distraught, ever since the news I gave.

For the next couple hours, everyone decided to rest on the ground. The world around us was cold, as usual. But, it wasn't going to freeze us to death

By now, James had brought his wife to me when the sky turned orange. With a slight hesitant breath, he asked if I could begin her healing.

Soon after I agreed, Melinda was on her front, her top was lowered so I could see her bare back. For her normality, and age, it was shockingly smooth with no signs of aging past twenty. The only ugly part was a black bruise and bulge just above her shoulder blade area.

"You'll probably feel warmth around your body." I said to her in a hushed voice. There was a slight red on her face, her body felt warm to the touch. "You don't need to be embarrassed."

Melinda nodded her head, but closed her eyes. Thus, I started the healing process of her back; the break I found was nasty.

It nearly was able to kill her, it was quite a miracle she was alive. Practically, her back was snapped in half— the break I would have to fuse it in two. I'd have to move the two halves together, weld them together and make sure the connections aren't wrong.

Once it all clicked inside, I began my duty.

I poured my mana inside her body, then using my fingernail I made a slit in her skin.

"What are you- are you trying to turn-"

"Relax." I cut off James's words. He was scared that I was going to turn Melinda into a vampire. It was a common misconception about vampires.

Our blood does not turn individuals, however our blood does allow us to control others from inside. This was a different situation though, I even explained this to him. He didn't believe me, at all, so I ignored him even when he grabbed my wrist.

My blood, it was nearly pitch black, dripped into Melinda's wound. As soon as it entered the fresh wound, I felt a connection pull me towards her.

Okay, ignore this idiot. He'll see here in a couple hours. With my mana pouring into her body, I controlled my blood. The white blood cells, and her immune system tried to fight against it immediately.

Ignoring the screaming, I navigated the blood inside; the plan was simple, I'm going to use my blood to piece her broken spine together. Through there I can thread it together, the second step was healing.

Within seconds, I found the bone fragments swimming around Melinda's body. Her body was already dissolving them, but I surrounded them with my mana. Beneath her skin there was a golden glow as I did this. As I maneuvered each shard, I mentally mapped out the piecing

Due to her spine being held on by a sliver of the bone, it was rather difficult to piece the puzzle together. The first chunk was giant, the left side holding a perfect symmetrical, yet jagged piece that fit right into the right most spot of her spine.

Small sharp particles covered the right side, my mana converted to more of my blood as I turned it into a glue-like substance. Every crevice, or hole I filled with it.

With more time, this puzzle became more coherent.

Expected. All the fragmented spinal pieces were now in place; her spine wasn't complete, it was being held onto by my blood— the width where it completely shattered was reduced by thirty-four percent.

Now… I used Blood of the Martyr– A soft yellow shone through the skin on her back. Her breath audibly released itself in shock. Looks like it's working.

Melinda shouldn't have felt anything, so her letting out a sound means it's working. Although she didn't say anything, I could tell it wasn't painful.

Once the sealing was finished, where I fused her back together, I began connecting the tissue. First were her nerves, which would take the longest. Then I have to reinforce them so they'll get back to their original strength.

But, even now I could tell I couldn't get to that complete spot. Melinda was whimpering, the agonizing pain was getting to her.

"That'll be it for today." I concluded as I brought my hands back. "Mister James just reinforce her body, she'll be okay."

"Is she going to turn?"

I shook my head at his question. "I don't plan on making anymore vampires in this world, Mister James."

"So… your blood won't turn her…?"

"No, it won't turn her."

I stepped to the side and crossed my arms. James helped fix her top, then picked her up off the ground. There was a pause as he casted a reinforcement spell on her.

After everything, everyone went to do their own thing.

As night fell, I tried to contact Frederic. As usual, there was an invisible line that connected his and I's head.

Frederic, can you hear me?

This question echoed in my head, and so did it enter his head. Thankfully, it didn't last long for him to answer.

What is it? Do you know how late it is over here?

Sorry, but I made it out of Frosted Peaks.

Great, how is Mathew doing?

He's… doing better than expected. But…

I recounted what Mathew saw, to the smallest detail. It was long winded to the point I rested on the ground and watched the sky. My arms were behind my head.

I see… Please keep an eye on him… No child should see that.

Already planning on it, I'll keep you updated, Fred.

Thank you.

Once the connection was severed, I closed my eyes; within my storage I brought out a long, thick blanket. Some slight struggles, I covered every inch of my body.

Keep yourself safe, please. I sent a message to Yukina and felt myself getting tired. I didn't wait for a response, and fell asleep.
