Chapter 5 - chapter 4

Becca's POV

Aunt's car horn echoed from downstairs.

She was already waiting for us.

I dragged my suitcase down the stairs and hurried outside.

There was no way I was riding with Logan.

That boy would spend the entire journey asking grammar questions.

As soon as I got outside, I opened the trunk, tossed my suitcase inside, and slammed it shut.

Lima was still upstairs, taking forever to get dressed.

I already knew why.

She was hoping to see John Maya again.

Typical Lima.

A smile crept onto my lips as I shook my head.

I climbed into the passenger seat while Aunt settled behind the steering wheel.

"Becca," she called.

Oh, no.

I already knew what was coming.

Another one of her long talks.

I bit my lip to stop myself from laughing.

"Be careful where you're going," she said softly. "Look after your sister too. You know how emotional Lima can be."

She smiled.

"I love both of you, and I don't want the two of you fighting."

"Alright, Mom," I replied with a sheepish grin.

"You bitch!"

Lima's voice interrupted our sweet little moment.

"What?" I yelled back, already smiling because I knew exactly why she was angry.

"You know Logan is going to spend the whole trip asking me random English questions, and Lycan won't stop yelling at the football match!"

She pouted dramatically.

"What are sisters for?"

She gave me her best puppy eyes.

"Let's switch."

I folded my arms.

"No."

I made sure to say it as loudly as possible just to annoy her.

"Motherf—"

She stopped herself.

"You wicked girl!"

She glared at me before storming toward Logan's car.

I laughed so hard my stomach hurt.

Lima's POV

As I approached Logan's car, Lycan finally looked up from his phone.

"Well, look who decided to join us."

I clenched my jaw.

My brothers were impossible.

They would do anything just to get on my nerves.

Ignoring him, I climbed into the back seat and shut the door.

Soon, Logan started the engine.

The journey was peaceful.

I rested my head against the window, watching the trees, houses, and busy streets disappear behind us.

Everything looked different.

Or maybe...

I was the one who had changed.

Somewhere along the journey, I drifted off to sleep.

An hour later...

"Lima!"

A hand gently shook my shoulder.

"We're here, Princess."

Lycan's voice made me groan.

I slowly opened my eyes.

Bright sunlight flooded my vision.

Blinking several times, I stepped out of the car.

The cool ocean breeze brushed against my skin as tall trees swayed gently around us.

Everything looked...

Different.

Bigger.

More beautiful than I remembered.

I grabbed my suitcase and walked toward the hotel where everyone attending Winter Camp would be staying.

Then...

I froze.

John Maya.

My eyes found him immediately.

He looked older.

Taller.

Even more handsome than I remembered.

For one brief second...

Our eyes met.

Then...

He looked away.

As if I were a complete stranger.

As if we'd never shared memories.

As if he'd forgotten I ever existed.

My heart sank.

Had he...

Forgotten me?

I barely noticed where I was walking.

My feet carried me forward until—

Thud.

I stumbled forward, my suitcase slipping from my grasp.

Before I could hit the ground, a strong arm wrapped around my waist.

My breath caught in my throat.

I looked up.

A pair of striking blue eyes stared back at me, filled with amusement rather than concern. A slow, teasing smirk tugged at the corner of his lips, as though watching me almost fall was the most entertaining thing he'd seen all day.

"You always introduce yourself by crashing into strangers?" he asked.

Heat rushed to my cheeks.

I didn't even know his name...

But something about him told me one thing.

He was trouble.

And somehow...

I had a feeling trouble had just found me.

But one thing was certain.

This year's Winter Camp...

Was going to change everything.
