Alola's Genesis coast greeted them with sunlight, salt wind, and Mewtwo's warning.
Do not enter the rift alone.
A violet projection of Mewtwo waited above the water. Its real body remained outside Genesis.
"Something is pulling at space," Mewtwo said. "I felt it from the physical world."
They followed the pressure to a beach where every shadow bent toward the sea.
At the center stood a cracked altar shaped like a crescent moon. Black stones lay scattered around it.
Cynthia touched the altar and saw stars.
A tiny nebula-like Pokémon drifted inside a dark passage while golden rings opened and closed around it. Far beyond the rings, something enormous slept among broken pieces of light.
The vision released her.
Kairos caught her elbow.
"Cosmog," he said.
"It is trapped."
Mewtwo lowered toward the altar. "The rift is unstable. Pulling Cosmog through may tear the coast open."
"Leaving it there may do the same," Cynthia said.
She studied the markings on the black stones. Each belonged in one of five positions around the altar.
"We anchor this side first."
Kairos placed the stones where she directed. Omastar held the sea stone in the rising tide. Garchomp braced the land stone. Marshadow stood at the shadow mark, and Mewtwo held the final point with psychic force.
At moonrise, the rift opened.
For one breath, Cynthia and Kairos stood inside a tunnel of stars.
A golden blade cut toward Cynthia.
Kairos moved in front of her.
She caught his sleeve.
"Beside me. Not ahead of me."
Garchomp's Dragon Claw and Chandelure's flame struck the blade together. It shattered into sparks.
Kairos moved to Cynthia's side.
They reached Cosmog.
The little Pokémon drew back when Cynthia offered her arms. She stopped and waited.
"We are leaving," she said. "You can come with us."
Cosmog looked at the closing rings. Then it floated forward and curled against her chest.
The rift began to collapse.
Mewtwo held the outer edge while Marshadow pulled at the shadows around it. Omastar kept the sea stone from washing away. Cynthia and Kairos crossed the altar together just before the passage closed.
Cosmog slept in Cynthia's arms beneath the Alolan moon.
When they logged out before dawn, Cosmog came with them. It remained small, warm, and real, just as Genesis allowed.
By sunrise, Cynthia had warned the Alola League and closed the physical coast around the altar.
Genesis had given Cosmog a way home.
It had also proved that damage inside the game could reach the world outside it.
