Chapter 825 - Chapter 825: Caught with Your Hands Tied

Chapter 825: Caught with Your Hands Tied

The course of the Thursday night game was truly unexpected.

Because they were division rivals, because of the grudges from last season, and because of their excellent form this season, everyone was anticipating a fiery and powerful matchup. What's more, this was the first time the highly-anticipated San Francisco 49ers had taken the primetime stage this season. After their brilliant matchup with the New York Giants last week, everyone was even more excited.

But the reality was far below expectations.

The Seattle Seahawks' offense, with Marshawn Lynch and Leon Washington, was completely shut down by the San Francisco 49ers' number one run defense in the league. They had almost no chance to perform and were practically invisible. Russell Wilson was exhausted from being chased by the opposing defensive line. His passing accuracy dropped to a rookie level, and it was unwatchable. The only good news was that he didn't get sacked or intercepted.

The Seattle Seahawks' defense, on the other hand, was also a disappointment. The defensive line was never able to put enough pressure on the pocket, and their run defense didn't show much strength. The secondary, with Sherman and Thomas, was completely suppressed by Lu Ke's tactics, and they repeatedly failed at crucial moments, giving up big yardage and pushing the team deeper into the abyss.

This performance was truly disappointing.

The running game was the Seahawks' offense's strongest point, but they ran into the 49ers, who had the best run defense in the league for two consecutive seasons. The secondary was the Seahawks' defense's strongest lineup, but they ran into the 49ers, who had a West Coast offense that was at its peak.

As a result, the highly-anticipated "Beast Mode" couldn't open things up, and the offense was in trouble. The heavily-burdened Sherman and Thomas couldn't effectively stop the bleeding, and the defense was also struggling.

Especially the latter. Because of Sherman's pre-game taunts and Lu Ke's excellent performance, this matchup would, to a large extent, determine the outcome of the entire game. The result was that Lu Ke easily gained a complete advantage. The so-called "easy" was from a layperson's perspective, but no matter what, the fact was that not only did Sherman fail to stop Lu Ke's passes, but he also allowed two touchdown passes to be thrown on his watch.

This became a microcosm of the entire game's momentum.

The Seattle Seahawks seemed to have their hands and feet tied. Their excellent performance from the past six weeks completely disappeared. It was as if they had been hit hard on the head and completely lost their direction, just spinning in place amidst the overwhelming cheers of the Candlestick Park crowd.

Could this be called... a "kryptonite"?

The Seattle Seahawks seemed to no longer know how to win this game.

After the start of the game, the San Francisco 49ers' offense, in a strong-on-strong matchup, took a 14-0 lead in two drives. But that wasn't all. The series of combination punches didn't stop.

When the Russell-led offense took the field again, they were once again severely suppressed by the 49ers' defense.

With one sack, four passes thrown under pressure, two hits, and seven effective tackles, and finally an interception, the Seahawks' offense was completely dazed. With the continuous pressure, they didn't have much room to breathe, and the entire offense was stumbling. What was more fatal was that they also had two yellow flag penalties, giving away the yards they had worked so hard to gain.

Although the Seattle Seahawks' offense played tough and truly showed an unyielding fighting spirit, pushing the sparks of the division rivalry to a new height and narrowly converting two third downs to keep their hopes alive, they still couldn't cross the midfield line.

On a third and two play near the midfield, although it was a short-yardage situation and a run play was the best choice, the Seattle Seahawks' head coach, Pete Carroll, gave up on the idea of Marshawn Lynch running the ball and put his trust in Russell Wilson, choosing to pass.

Unfortunately, wide receiver Doug Baldwin, number 89, couldn't get into position in time, and he could only watch as the San Francisco 49ers' second-year outside linebacker, Aldon Smith, made an interception.

Aldon then returned the ball, giving the home team's offense a chance to start their drive on the opponent's 43-yard line.

The first quarter ended.

After the game, Carroll's tactical choice was met with serious criticism from all sides.

It was just a third and two conversion. Although both running backs, Marshawn and Washington, had been severely restricted today, the success rate of a third and two conversion was still relatively high. It was precisely because Carroll chose to pass that it led to Russell's interception, which became the final straw.

Because the San Francisco 49ers didn't waste this opportunity to start their drive in the opponent's half of the field.

After the second quarter began, the San Francisco 49ers, who had gained possession through the interception, once again showed a beautiful combination of plays in front of their enthusiastic home fans. They had five short passes in a row, four of which were successful. Then, Lu Ke used a fake pass and a real run to hand the ball off to Marcus Lynch.

The latter, with a powerful run, broke through on the left side, ran through a defensive player's block, and then exploded with an incredible burst of speed before two players could close in. He ran all the way, completing a twenty-four-yard rushing touchdown.

Yes, a touchdown.

This not only signaled that the San Francisco 49ers' running game was finally starting to warm up but also meant that the 49ers had further extended their lead. It also meant that the balance of power in the offense-vs-defense showdown between the two teams had clearly shifted, with the home team gradually taking control.

A Sherman plus a Thomas was not enough to save the entire defense. Not to mention that Sherman had already given up two touchdown plays. Just the fact that the San Francisco 49ers' offense was spreading the ball all over the field, not limited to a specific direction or area, their overall tactical play had successfully broken the Seattle Seahawks' pre-game strategy, thus gaining the initiative.

As the post-game analyst said, the straw had broken the camel's back.

When the final whistle blew, the score was 35-3.

Throughout the game, the Seattle Seahawks' offense was like a zombie. Even their running game was completely shut down. Marshawn Lynch was like a ghost on the field; the cameras could barely capture his powerful runs. Russell Wilson's passing accuracy also dropped significantly and fell apart under the opponent's defensive pressure.

The Seahawks' only score came at the start of the second half. After regrouping at halftime, their running and passing games finally showed some style and quality. They made three successful third-down conversions and one tough fourth and one conversion, eventually reaching the red zone.

But in the red zone, they were met with a head-on blow from the San Francisco 49ers' defense. They went three and out. Russell was sacked and even fumbled the ball, but luckily the Seahawks' offensive players were able to recover it in time, which prevented them from coming up empty-handed in the red zone.

In the end, they were only able to get a field goal, breaking their zero-point embarrassment.

And that was it.

On the other hand, the home team, the San Francisco 49ers, gradually found their rhythm.

In fact, the receivers were still not in top form. Michael Crabtree dropped at least three easy catches, and one of them was a recurrence of his butterfingers. Vernon Davis also dropped two easy catches. More importantly, his ability to keep running after the catch was terrible; he always ran into a defensive player.

Ted Ginn, who played well in the first half, also had two low-level mistakes. He ran the wrong route, causing him to miss the best time to catch the ball. Both of these mistakes resulted in incomplete passes.

However, the substitute Randy Moss was still in great form. He was targeted ten times and successfully caught eight of them for 136 yards and a touchdown. In the second half, he was on fire, dominating in both man and zone coverages and completely taking over the game.

In addition, Logan Newman also maintained an above-average performance. He was targeted thirteen times and successfully caught nine of them for 116 yards and a touchdown. His performance in the trenches was particularly steady and reliable, like a lighthouse, lighting up Lu Ke's passing lanes.

It was in this state that Lu Ke successfully found the formula to advance the ball. He made full use of the characteristics of different players to block and distract, and then used his fakes and pre-planned plays to completely outwit the opposing defense. Once again, he was the biggest star of the game.

What was even more commendable was that the cooperation between Lu Ke and the offensive line was finally showing results.

First, they didn't give up a single sack in the entire game. Second, even with the running backs not in their best form, the offensive line successfully opened up holes, creating two big plays, and these two plays resulted in a rushing touchdown for both Marcus Lynch and Frank Gore.

The reason for saying this is that at other times, the two running backs' rushing yards were not worth discussing. They were still adjusting to their form.

The running backs, Marcus and Gore, each had a touchdown. The wide receivers, Ginn and Moss, each had a touchdown. The tight end, Logan, had a touchdown. The final score was 35-3.

This was undoubtedly a team victory. In a difficult situation, Lu Ke made full use of the team's cohesion and with a strong belief in victory, he continued to advance, once again completing a satisfying blowout win and pushing their winning streak to seven games!
