The slimmer one vanished first.
Seris didn't see him move, but her body reacted anyway. Her head tilted just enough for something sharp to pass by her cheek instead of cutting through it.

She turned immediately, her hand shooting out to catch him, but he twisted away before she could secure a grip.
Behind her, the heavier one closed the distance in a single step, his fist crashing toward her side with brutal force.
This time she didn't dodge.
She planted herself.
The impact landed solidly, the force travelling through her frame and into the ground beneath her, cracking the floor.
She didn't move.
His eyes widened for just a second.
Seris drove her knee into his abdomen.
The hit forced the air out of him, but he didn't fold. He took it, absorbing the blow like a wall, even as he staggered.
The faster Sylgrid was already back, cutting in from her blind spot again. This time, a strike meant to break rhythm.
Seris noticed the change immediately.
